I can't remember who did it at this point so sorry for not giving credit where it's due. Back when the coaching search kicked off after we fired Mack there were all sorts of rumors that Saban was in town. Someone had the idea to call AUS and have them make a pick up announcement. The announcement said "Would Nicholas Saban please come to passenger pick up". Some employee didn't realize who it was for and went on the speaker and made the announcement. It got picked up on twitter almost immediately, and I am even sure it made it onto ESPN at one point.

I want to say it was maybe The Pop or a handle that is something like South Fork.  I don't see them posting here much or at all anymore.

You wrote Burbank to LA. Did you mean LV or LAS?

He probably meant he was on the outskirts of barstow.

Someone should keep a list, because there is going to be some wild shit coming down the pipe here over the next 12-15 months.

Banner, Billboard, PedoBear, Wreath (did they really send a fucking wreath to Drunkenstein? I've never figured out whether it happened or not), txtow, Burnt Ends, HWH/TOF, Twitter/x Geoff Ketchum, ?? I know there's a lot more and I know some people can't handle some of it, but all of that shit cracks me up or makes me smile.

One of my personal favorites but I'm aware it's not a full board thing was winning a bet that had @SydneyCarton writing a personal paean to Greg Davis that then had Greg Davis earnestly respond in letter form while Sydney had to write a post on the FB board swearing his allegiance and affinity to Greg Davis, seriously, while being lampooned and shamed by other posters. God, that was pathetically fulfilling.

See, I don't even know this one. Tell it.

The worst thing about that entire experience was the timing of the original wager. Greg Davis had to get an equal or higher level job in college or the NFL, and it was basically the last fucking day of hiring season, like fucking well into february or early March. And that fucker was still unemployed. And then Kirk Fucking Ferentz throws that sloppy fuck a bone and hires him as Iowa's OC. Fucking unreal. It was like losing a wager on a full court bank-in shot with 1 second left.

"...but it sounds like things have changed since then." Hmm, I wonder what that change could be???

Recruits are starting to smell the rot from Collie Station.

They've been able to smell the rot for about 18 months or so, but aTm has managed to persist by giving them stacks of bills to fan away the stench.

Saw the topic was hot and thought we had aggy decommit news.  Nope Mel Torme and Airport stories.  I once shoulder checked Hulk Hogan at Lax.  I  was at the new stand deciding which news paper to buy to read on the plane.  I grabbed one and turned to start walking and bumped right into him, said sorry and then saw who it was.  I don’t think he said anything, probably couldn’t because he was picking himself up off the ground in disbelief….

You are lucky he didn't rally and then give you the leg drop in the terminal brother.

Can all of you idiots stop talking about flying to Los Angeles from Burbank? Unless you're taking a helicopter or something private, there aren't flights between BUR and LAX. Jesus.

I was leaving Burbank once, and they ran out of jet fuel at the airport. So they did fly from BUR to LAX, refuel the plane, and then fly to Austin. We were in the air for about fifteen minutes circling above LA and getting in the runway pattern to land.

ok, a few things.

1. it was a wrapped prevost tour bus.  we never had a wrapped rv.  it did have dual slide-outs.

2. yes, i was on the bus, i planned that whole trip, because i went to texas and joe went to usc so it was on.  i don't really remember mario being on it, but he was around a lot and was generally a decent dude.  of course everybody looks like mother teresa when they're hanging out next to joe.  it was joe and him (i guess) and me and the chick i was dating (mistake) and about 12 texas chicks who were current students.  no idea how they got involved, but they were awesome and young and hot and awesome.

3. the controversy i remember was which lot we were parking in.  i got us a pass for the rv lot, but the security guy at the gate directed us to the bus lot, so that's where the driver went.  the bus lot, by design, packs the buses in like sardines, and it's almost impossible to get in and out when it's parked.  their orders are to get everybody out, then slide the next bus in.  the rv lot allows room for people to tailgate and party around the vehicle, which is why i wanted us there.  if memory serves, once the driver fucked up, we were stuck in the bus lot, so the only way to party there was to extend, which they don't allow in the bus lot.  again, sardines.  so maybe we sent mario out to deal with it, and he obviously couldn't.  most of the buses in the bus lot were like greyhounds, just straight seats all the way back, when we were more like an apartment inside.

4. anyhow, we partied for a while on our cramped tour bus, then went and found another group and partied with them.  then after the game we got back on the bus, and i turned on the postgame, and joe was being such a fucking baby he kept turning it off when all i wanted to do was watch highlights.  we all went to some club then eventually back to his house and in the middle of the night went next door to quincy jones' house.  i wrote a whole long post on hornfans or whatever, which turned into an email that got forwarded around so many times that eventually joe got it, which was...awkward.  i'm sure some people here read it.

It's awesome that you were there and had a key role in the whole thing. What you typed basically confirms my memory, but for it being a bus in the bus lot. I guess the extenders are why I had RV stamped on the brain. It's funny that that is actually where you wanted to take the bus and someone fucked it up. I do remember the chicks coming off the bus being hot.

Are you and Joe still buddies or was there a parting of the ways? I've never spent a bunch of time on whichever subforum all of that has always been discussed, I don't think.

i haven't spoken to joe or seen him since february of 2010, right before i left for austin to write the book.  he knew i was writing a book but decided to come after me physically at a restaurant/bar where i was with 5 friends and knew the owner very well.  he lunged at me and the bouncer literally picked him up and had him on the street before i even knew i was in a fight (i've never been in a real fight).  there isn't much ggw chatter since the old nsaa board, and if there is, i'm not involved in it.

the lesson learned with the bus lot was an important one, however.  because in 2009 we rented an rv and made sure we made it into the correct lot, and had a great time (no joe, obviously).  then in 2012, a big group of us rented a tour bus for the ole miss game.  we flew to nashville, partied thursday night, the driver scooped us on friday morning and we drove to tunica where we stayed the night at the casino but crashed on the bus and when i woke up we were in the rv lot in oxford, and our group was already outside grilling.

that was a long long day (8pm local kick?) of golf-carting to the grove and back, and it was really nice to have an air conditioned bus to charge phones, watch games, bring chicks back to, take naps, etc.  if anyone was at that game, you saw texas fans walking to their seats for kickoff looking like they had been through a war.  what a weird choice.  the key was after the game, we just all crashed in our bunks, and woke up in nashville.  hotels in oxford are few and far between, so this was the perfect situation.  highly recommend, if you have a bus guy.

@SydneyCarton and I, along with some other folks who are as Surly as Surly can be but don't post on the Internet have a history of planned public trolls against groups or individuals who we think deserve it. I think y'all know that part. What may not be clear is that that approach extends beyond things related to UT or college sports.

Ryan Braun had been caught taking roids after speaking high and mighty about steroid users in baseball while putting up absurd numbers. Then, he got the outcome overturned because of some chain of custody issue with the guy who was delivering the tests to the facility. Then Braun gives a press conference, preaches his innocence, calls the paid-hourly delivery worker several names and implies corruption, and then wags his finger at the media members about presuming his guilt. He gets to keep playing.

Fast forward to some time after that and he tests positive again, for a drug he thought they weren't testing for yet. Then they suspend his ass. He attempted to blame his girlfriend's STD or STD medicine for his positive test.

This guy was a source of pride for Jewish kids who love baseball and just little baseball fans in general. I had viewed McGwire that way as a kid. So fuck this guy.

We bought 10 tickets on the front row of the Crawford boxes when the Astros were terrible and the Brewers were coming to town. Braun played left field. We asked Sydney to get a banner made, which he did, that read "MVP = Made Via Pharmaceuticals". It was big and long, and yes, that's what she said.

Every time that fucking asshole ran out to left, from the 1st until the 9th, we pulled that banner up across the lot of us. Same for when he went up to bat. It even got on tv a few times with fouls and such.

Once he was in left field, we heckled him mercilessly. Imagine the worst shit you can say to someone like that without making threats or cussing, and we did it. The rest of the Crawford Boxes got into it. We were chanting shit like "Steroids! Steroids here! Geeett your steroids here!!!" "You have let down your entire heritage!" "It takes a brave man to blame his girlfriend's STD for testing positive for steroids!" "You've made a mockery of your career. You will never be considered for the HOF. You should be ashamed of yourself." "You have shamed your entire family. Little kids despise you, you hypocrite!" I mean, Minute Maid was mostly empty and we were right above the little bitch.

The guy made 2 errors in the game. In the 9th inning, Astros security came out and asked us to leave. A terrible Astros team was beating the shit out of Milwaukee. They pulled Braun after his last AB in the 8th. The Astros people told us that the Brewers and Braun had been complaining about us since the 2nd inning. They waited until the 9th to come get us.

I don't know what Ryan Braun thinks about when he thinks about his baseball career while he counts his money and pulls the wings off of honeybees and butterflies. What I do know is that when that fucker scrolls through those memories and all of his accomplishments, somewhere in the recesses of those thoughts, he remembers all of the shit we said to him that night and he knows there's truth to it. He was visibly shaken and got worse as the game went on. Fuck that cheating hypocrite.

I am also this petty and self righteous.  We should meet up.  There have to be consequences for people’s actions.

No sarcasm.

I would guess that like pretty much everyone on that staff, including the head coach, he doesn't want to be there.  I bet that staff is deep down miserable at work and constantly tell themselves "yeah, but the money is great"

maybe they are actively trying to get their golden parachute out of college station. A&M needs some successful legacies to run the program, JFF would be amazing as HC

Don't be so sure they wouldn't have to pay him. Remember how bad that motherfucker hated CS and wanted to get out his senior year?

Someone should let Howell know that the only cheerleaders aggy fans will listen to are these:

I cannot think of another school in the world where their student body would want to watch that for 3 hours. Looks like some cerebral palsy idiots broke out of a mental asylum and started dancing, and then student body starts aping it and chanting weird shit. What a bunch of fucking idiots!

I can't believe Jason Howell included the Texas win over Alabama. That must have crushed his tiny little dark soul.

He for sure meant it as a dig at us

I haven't done this in a while, so I sat and looked at the numbers again. While we have been in different conferences and we have been about as shitty as at any time in our history AND they have been the self-proclaimed "Runners of this State," the records against P5 teams from 2012-2023 are:

TEXAS A&M (97 games)

51-46    .526 winning percentage

9-0 in FCS games

TEXAS (121 games)

64-57    .529 winning percentage

0-0 in FCS games because we don't do that pussy shit

We have played more P5 games than they have by a lot and have a slightly better winning percentage.

Why do they call themselves Texas Aggys United instead of Texas A&M Aggys United?

They've been trying to sweep the a&m part under the rug for a couple years now. This is what the baseball team wears:

And they like to try and talk shit about who the real "UT" is...
