Since ONE of the ways birth control pills and IUDs work is to prevent a fertialized egg from properly implanting how long before we start arresting Alabama women, doctors, and pharmacists and charging them for numerous manslaughter charges?

The pill prevents ovulation, it's the much less commonly used "mini-pill" that allows fertilization and then prevents implanting.... not that the nutjobs actually care about that distinction in their crusade.

Yeah, that's a hard pass on believing Mr. 'bama AG.  He has a couple of years left in his term, and if he doesn't go after IVF, he'll be voted out for someone who will.

That is the primary mechanism.  However there are multiple effects of the combination birth control, ONE of which involves blocking implantation of the fertilized egg.

Q:  And why do embryos have rights in Alabama?

A:  Because they aren't women yet.

You can take my reproductive rights when you pry them from my cold, not-yet-alive embryonic hands?

Dammit, I had something for this.  Something about an egg stored for 18 years getting to own a gun.

Is it to late to get referendums added to all the swing states to protect access to IVF ? Even more than abortion access, this seems like a overwhelmingly popular issue to drive GOTV

Pro Life crowd skipped the strongly worded letter stage and went right to bombs.

Well, they’ve done it before.  Pretty fucking ironic that the pro-life crowd is cool killing people because they are prolife.  See the murder of Dr. Tiller and countless abortion clinics firebombed.  These people are fucking crazy.

If the end game is no more birth control, that means the men are going to start wearing raincoats and we all know that will lead them to take to the streets with pitchforks.  It'll make the BLM protests look like a picnic.

Blah blah blah.

Women aren't people, they're chattel.

And as always, never forget that the cruelty is the point.  It's the time-honored way to show lesser beings (women, in this case) that you are the boss and should not be questioned, because you can do whatever the fuck you want whenever you want (subject them to violence and death).  Does "shoot a man in the face in the middle of 5th avenue" ring a bell?

The only thing more devout than faith despite lack of evidence, is faith despite contrary evidence.  So there is no debate or changing of minds.

couple that with the belief that things are ordained a certain way by god, and there is no compromise.

there is only one path for them.  Despite the FACT (since we don’t know what god thinks or wants) that what is really happening is that people are aligning god with their beliefs to anchor them, and not themselves aligning with god.

Yes, but what my book presupposes is what if they use the self-checkout machine?  Dammit, I had something for this!

I'm not an ardent Christian.  I got my own other higher power shit going on.  My daughter the other day after some boy was talking to her inappropriately about genitals and sex that she has nothing to be ashamed of.  Pull your shorts down sweetheart, not because there's anything wrong with you but it's just not hygienic to put your butt on a filthy restaurant chair.  And this kid made her feel bad about being a girl.  And I have to admit, maybe my upbringing, she should never be embarrassed about her body or her femininity.  Women are the best thing to ever happen to this planet.  But yeah, I'm kinda old-school, I don't want her having sexual engagements at a young age and I certainly don't want her pregnant at a young age or having to seek out an abortion.  But in the end, it'll her and her mom's call if it comes to that.  I'm just her to make sure no asshole kid mistreats her.  And while I'm looking over her shoulder to the dickhead boy being mean to her...I forget over my shoulder is a governmental mechanism hell-bent on making her life choices as difficult as possible.  And so yeah, I'm pro-feminism and I love my girls and I admit I'm still a little conservative when it comes to them being wild and free and all about love.  But I wake up thinking about how to fuck up the Paxton's and Abbott's and Patrick's of the world and hurting them is fun for me.  And I think of the MAGA dad's I know who have sons who may one day court my daughter and potentially mess up her life.  And I think of how I'm going to explain to the cops that, "Yeah, I beat the fuck out of the dad in front of his son because I don't hurt young people.  So maybe get the concept before you get the cuffs.  Because I'm fucking stupid.  After 100,000  years, women finally caught a break and got treated half-ass decently and we just couldn't fucking help ourselves and had to start being mean to them again.  My girls don't need a protector, they'll be just fine on their own because they know how to handle themselves.  But Daddy is just like Tommy in "Casino" sometimes.  I'll get outta prison and fuck the guy up again, because I don't know any better anymore.  I didn't make this game but I can sure as shit ensure bad people are made to suffer.  And around and around we go.  What the fuck else is there to do?

Jimmyjazz speaks truth.  This is not something new. In addition, the bill to which the former speaker refers was passed in 2022 in the House but languished in the Senate due to stalling by the GOP.

March 22 marks the date (52 years ago) that single women were "given" the right to use birth control by SCOTUS ( 1972 Eisenstadt v. Baird). Prior to that, it was only married women who had the legal right to obtain and use birth control (due to Griswold v. Connecticut in 1965).

Ironic that the word control is and always has been about who is "allowed" to wield it.

It all just boils down to this.

We are reflexively lurching backwards.  For a brief window of time, we were decent to women, minorities, queers.  We can't have that now, can we?   Gotta go back in time: make being assholes great again!
