One committed suicide already after years of service. Some assumptions can be made.

I have no doubt that some of the rank and file were passive at best, and outright supportive at worst of the rioters, and maybe some are shitting their pants at being capture on media doing that and deciding they don’t want to face what comes next.  If he entire department being unprepared is a call made from much higher.  Trump is crazy and willing to do anything to retain power.  That’s not even a questions anymore. How multiple levels of management and oversight didn’t flag this is pretty alarming.

The SS didn’t look around when bringing Pence in and start making some calls?  If a single party or president can align an entire power structure that’s in charge of security with sympathizers, it’s probably time to change up how that process works. Maybe we have to have some kind of partisan binary in certain offices or positions of power in at least an oversight role to ensure something like this can’t happen again. The days of trusting people to uphold their oath to the constitution sadly seem to be over. We can’t govern with that as an accepted standard.

Don't think so having read about him. His father was the Senate Sgt in Arms. And he officer was not senior enough to make those decisions.

His father was also business partners with Paul Manafort.  There's obviously not enough information to conclude anything right now, but I hope this is being investigated by the FBI.  I'm certainly not saying he orchestrated this, but he could have been one of the officers involved in letting the rioters in, taking selfies, etc.

Some of you Trumpes have to know deep down inside, they're just laughing at you and your President at this point.  I mean, c'mon...that's state television.  Putin had to give his permission for them to do that mock-up and everybody got a laugh while they were doing it.

You can still be a tough-guy Texan.  You're just not a man when it comes to selecting your leaders.

the guy who resigned and committed suicide yesterday..... ???

I thought he was just a rank and file guy. I doubt he was in position to receive intel from the FBI and set the security posture. That’s the chief or higher I would think. The chief resigned, so maybe there is some smoke there.

I just don't want to overstate the weaponry and I thought we could explore a few "what ifs".  I realize, at this point, we don't have all of the minute details, but I really thought there would have been more conjecture about this on this board.

To what purpose? Does it matter if they were going to kill elected officials with a handgun, sword, pocket knife, letter opener, or by simply hitting them with a heavy object?

Jiggyz “just asking questions” game strong to quite strong

Jiggy is a good dude - I think he's just asking that inside the mob riot mayhem and violence if it's been figured out if there was a pre-planned, cohesive method for actually executing Pelosi et al.   We all know it was talked about, but if there were a core group of people actually armed to carry that out.  We all know it could have happened and they wanted it to happen.

If Muckety was still up and running, I bet the web you could make with it would be rather telling. If you've looked at the way the mob had tentacles, this is no different. Each person has a *role. Sometimes people screw up. But the smart leader has a fail safe. We know Trump is not smart in that way, he just attempts to keep his hands clean.  Question would be if there is another person out there with the plausible fail safe.....who will step back for awhile.

*not necessarily pre planned instructions. Finding someone who is 'friendly' or sympathetic to your goals when push comes to shove (life is endangered) is not likely to oppose the mob. Open a door here, lend a hand there. They'll rationalize it soon enough. Roger Stone didn't have to do much to get those Bush staffers to beat on the door of the election office in Florida and look what happened after that.

Oh, and they were expressly and vocally hunting for staffers - again, there are recordings made in real time.

At least some of these folks were in a murderous frenzy.  Would they have been murderous if you visited with one of them one-on-one at Denny's?  Maybe not.  But they absolutely got worked up into a fervor and - most importantly - premeditated violence and murder because they brought the tools with them to do so.  They didn't bring zip ties to repair a loose door handle of their old Buick.

And somehow they were only heard asking "where's Pelosi?" and asking for directions to Chuck Schumer's office and showing up at Jim Clyburn's unlisted office space, knowing who they were looking for.

The use of the term zip ties makes me laugh. I keep zip ties in my tool box, in my jeep and in my field gear. they are quite handy. But what these fuck sticks had are called Flex Cuffs. They have 1 purpose. To hold a human. And you can buy them on Amazon.

So, let that be a lesson to the insurrectionists.  Next time, show up with these instead, much less menacing:

I'm calling in from Alabama Recon Post #4 monitoring local Good Ol Boy radio call-in show. So far it's

1. Male, voice: twangy. Voted for Trump twice. Hates him now. Accepts election results.

2. Male, voice: old and thinks-self-clever: letting ideas drop of where do "we" go now once "we" exhaust legal remedies...

3. Female, voice: Archie Bunker's more aggrieved little sister: ranting about BLM, Antifa, but then turned on and bit the radio hosts.

4. Male, voice: folksy reptilian: the playbook is now clear, we simply have to do the nefarious thing the Democrats did, then we shall win as well.

Also, the different callers were turning on each other.

Anyway, I gotta go listen to something else while my IQ still allows me to cross the room.

Thank you for that.  I pictured you listening to Good Ol Boy Alabama Radio wearing a hastily made radiation suit like those guys clearing the roof in Chernobyl.  You did your part, comrade.

Pumping up the crowd with Laura Branigan and The Village People - I'm surprised we didn't see any.

They must have left them back at the Holiday Inn.

That was exactly my concern and still is. People are watching Trump, but are missing that every drama has an understudy for the protagonist.

I know congressional subpoenas are kind of a joke, but any official defying a subpoena on this matter needs to be taken into custody and held until they comply. Apparently there’s a dinky little holding cell onsite and they need to use it.

The Biden Inauguration is going to place 200,000 flags of various size all over the mall.  Will just be another "Trump insurrections are the true patriots" meme as they trample American flags trying to riot.

The inauguration will be 1,000,000 times worse than last week if they don’t lock down DC airtight.  The Trumpkins get more desperate and radicalized with the passing of each event that they’re promised will undo the election and that of course doesn’t.  They’re going to view that as the true last stand, and Biden will be there this time.

If it weren’t for the terrible symbolism of letting terrorists force us to change our institutions, I’d say they should have the inauguration in a secure location without a crowd.  It would help avoid a Covid superspreader event, too, but at this point you probably have to have it in the open and make sure it goes smoothly just so these whack jobs won’t feel emboldened that they’re winning.

isn't it virtual?

THANK YOU FOR THIS.

Fuck outta here with this Carter < Bush lie. Read some fucking history man. I remember the Carter years and the dawn of Reaganism. This is bullshit.

Most of the military rebuild Reagan gets credit for was Carter's doing after Nixon destroyed militia moral and readiness.

Biden will still do the swearing-in in-person in front of the Capitol and his inauguration speech.  Then they will do the ceremonial inspection of the military and formal escort to the White House.  The parade is virtual.  I believe they've already cancelled the inaugural lunch with Congress and we aren't getting the inaugural balls and stuff.  At least we can put the money we'd spend on that towards beefed up security.

And as they announced today, Biden and Jill, Kamala and Doug, Shrub and Laura, Bill and Hillary, Barack and Michelle will go lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Yeah, why are we still debating this? How has anyone not learned their lesson about giving Trump the benefit of the doubt?

Trump put out tweets explicitly calling for his loser followers to swarm DC on January 6. He gave a fascist call-to-arms speech whipping the mob he summoned into a frenzy and imploring them to storm the Capitol. When they did what he asked them to do, he and his toadies refused requests for military protection of Congress and Trump called congressmen to extort them while their lives were in danger.

And y’all are sitting here wondering if we’ll ever get to the bottom of the impenetrable mystery of The Crazy Capitol Caper. Good lord.

Plus there’s the video of him after the speech at their pre revolt party intently watching the television.  Everyone focuses on his coked out son and his hideous whore wife dancing but to me the most telling thing is trump himself intently watching the television, talking to no one and waiting for the attack to start.

Meanwhile, Melania is focusing on what's truly important:

"I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks and false misleading accusations on me – from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda.

“This time is solely about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal gain.”

Numerous individual house members were simply hiding in their offices.  Only senior leadership was taken to a safe location.  Some were separated from the mob by nothign but a single door and luck.

Yeah, about that.

The man seen chasing a Black Capitol Police officer up the stairs during Wednesday's insurrection and riot is Doug Jensen, according to a CNN comparative analysis of his booking photo and posts on social media. Jensen is one of the individuals now facing federal charges.

On a Twitter account bearing his name, Jensen twice identified himself in one of the pictures that was circulating online after the riot and insurrection.

Quote

Jensen -- dressed in a QAnon t-shirt -- is also seen in an Associated Press photo taken by photojournalist Manuel Balce Ceneta -- gesturing toward another Capitol Hill police officer.

Quote

In the video captured by the Huffington Post's Igor Bobic, Jensen -- wearing the same QAnon t-shirt -- is seen chasing the unidentified officer with a mob of rioters following him. Once at the top of a set of stairs, the officer glances toward a doorway to his left that leads to the Senate floor and moves away from it and toward the camera, steering the mob away from the Senate floor.

Yes.  There's video of the whole thing.  I posted it yesterday.  At the very beginning of the video, with a crowd of white rioters screaming at him, he shoves one of them.  He then runs up some stairs, and then away from the Senate chamber, while radioing his location, so that they are met by Capitol police away from the chamber.

He deserves the Medal of Freedom. The real one.

I'm gonna guess who ever videoed it was in on the plan as well, as they took all those turns before the officer did, and deserves some recognition(hopeful not public this time).
