Well, Small doesn't seem likely

Relevant portion

Texas: “They're saying the same thing Tech was saying but in order for me to be at my peak I would have to redshirt. Honestly, to me I felt a little disrespected but obviously they have in-comers from all over the world that produced in the SEC, PAC-12, etc but my game is way different from them but it is what it is.”

ESPN has him at 6'8" 170 lbs. For me, that's the relevant portion.

I'm 5'9" and just under 180 lbs and appear skinny every but my little paunch.

This guy must be as skinny as a pipe cleaner. A stick of bamboo. How can someone be that tall and skinny and play against strong players. That height-to-weight ratio is similar to a mountain specialist in cycling. That's just insane.

Makes sense. I figured Texas would try to redshirt somebody if they added Small.

It may seem disrespectful but reality is there weren't going to be huge minutes for him. That's just being honest.

He can shoot. That's the only reason teams want him.

And with Carr, you really get a 2in1 product.  You get a floor leader/distributor and a shooting threat.  With no messy buildup.

Vidal says the way he can dish on Paul Mitchell.  I mean, the way Carr can dish to Tre Mitchell will be something spectacular.

Kind of shocking how bad Buzz has been at A&M so far.

This is pure wild unfounded speculation based around, well, his entire vibe, but man does he seem like a guy with a drinking problem. Got that Chip Brown complexion and a slightly unhinged social media presence.

Isiah Small decided to return to Texas State.

I'm not sure Texas or Texas Tech really had roster room for him unless he wanted to RS/play limited minutes. But I thought he was definitely headed to A&M who could use him.

It makes you wonder how life might have been different for Buzz had he ended up at Texas instead of aggy.

Winning cures all but I don't think Texas fans would have liked him too much.

Texas fans went insane over all of Shaka's quotes/cliche sayings and Buzz is about 50X worse when it comes to that stuff.

Gerry

Spoiler

Marcus Carr is in the building
Minnesota transfer combo guard Marcus Carr has arrived in Austin for his visit. The 6-foot-2 versatile guard entered the portal recruiting phase with Texas having a big lead over Louisville, with Kansas and Kentucky also receiving mention. The Cardinals are battling very hard to convince Carr that his best opportunity for playing time and freedom as a player is in Louisville.

In Carr, Texas is recruiting one of the top returning guards in college basketball coming off an All-Big Ten third team selection after averaging 19.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game for the Gophers. He finished the season third in the Big Ten in scoring and assists.

Carr’s first season at Minnesota was even more impressive than the 2020-21 campaign. In 31 starts, the Toronto native who finished high school at Montverde Academy (FL) averaged 15.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.7 assists.

Carr will suit up next season, very likely at Texas or Louisville, having scored 20 or more points 22 times in 92 college games, including scoring 30 points or more five times. He posted a career-high 41 points against Nebraska last season. Carr has also posted six career double-doubles, and six games of 10 or more assists.

A visit to Louisville later in the week remains possible.

SG Wesley Yates, Beaumont United
The class of 2023 scoring guard was offered by Texas June 26 after a big time performance at an AAU event put on by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches in DFW. The day after, Baylor also extended an offer to the 6-foot-3.5 aggressive guard with NBA range.

Since that time, Creighton, Auburn, LSU and Arkansas have also followed up with offers as Yates’ stock continues to soar.

The Longhorns are considered the early favorite over the National Champion Bears among the programs that have offered. IT was told by a source very close to the Yates family that an offer from Kentucky would be the opportunity that Yates could jump on instead of staying in state.

CG Cason Wallace, Richardson High
Tennessee was considered a virtual lock to win out for the 6-foot-3 combo guard in recents weeks and days, but the Vols may have hurt themselves. Not only did Tennessee take a point guard at the beginning of July (B.J. Edwards), but also may have pushed too hard for a quick commitment from the five-star DFW prospect. That has apparently opened the door for the competition. Kentucky, and possibly Baylor and Texas could see their chances increase if Wallace continues to cool on the Vols.

If we land Carr Beard deserves a raise, right now. We’ve basically sold 7 all conference type guys on playing time.

edit- I’m pretty sure he showed these guys the roster while Shaka was still here. We were going to be dogshit. Like worst team in my lifetime. To even be in the conversation for a top 5 to 10 team is amazing. Can’t wait to see what happens.

Let's not go getting all lathered up just yet, but the fact that we are even in the discussion is exactly what we were hoping for when we hired Beard.  I'm not sure that a coach can meet, much less exceed, expectations before a single game is even played, but Beard is certainly giving it a shot.

What Beard has done is nothing less than a miracle.   Have you seen Marcus Carr's last season highlights?

I have always felt Texas would have to have a lot of good luck to win a MBB championship. If we add Carr we would need bad luck not to win it all.
