Quote

The former head football coach for Baylor University, Art Briles, gave the ‘Back to School’ convocation speech for the Aquilla Independent School District Monday.

“We’re coming off of real difficult year, and he knows what difficulty is all about,” said David Edison, Superintendent of Aquilla ISD.

Aquilla ISD’s “motto” for the 2021-2022 school year is “looking up,” which also happens to be the name of Briles’ book: Art Briles: Looking Up: My Journey from Tragedy to Triumph.

Needless to say, the superintendent that invited him is a Baylor alum.

There is not one message in the story of why Briles isn’t a college coach any more.

It’s a funny coincidence that two of the most innovative minds to coach football, Paul Tyson and Art Briles, both saw their careers come to screeching halts in Waco.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he did.  Having grown up in Lubbock I think Tech would do anything to be relevant in football.

Especially considering the big 12 fallout. And art looks like he knows the tunnel system of Alcatraz these days.

My thought is that is why they brought in Cumbie.

Elevating Cumbie to head coach certainly makes a lot more sense for Tech than going after Briles. They get to bring home one of theirs without all the rape/steroid baggage.

Although I hope Tech continues to suffer because of what they did to the Pirate.

Hocutt won’t. The undergraduate president won’t. The chancellor won’t. The BOR won’t approve it. How The hell are they going to hire him? Fire all of the university leadership to hire one, almost 70 year old football coach?

For every one Tech person that wants him, there’s 20 that don’t. This is a stupid take. He’s a CFB pariah.

The population of Aquilla Texas is 109. The Student population of Aquilla ISD is 263 across two schools. I guess they pull rural kids that don't live in the "city". For a guy like Briles to go from coaching a D1 college program to giving the Back to School convocation speech at a school that has fewer students than Baylor had rape allegations is a pretty big fall. Like Motley Crue playing the casino circuit. I would be surprised if he coaches at the colligate level again. He might get some interest when jobs open up, but 10 minutes of due diligence on Google should be all it takes for people to cross him off the list.

Certainly working his way down ain't he. He coached at Mt Vernon the past couple of years before dipping. If he doesn't get a college job I'm sure he'll take a fancy private school job with no morals. He can recruit without problem at that level (had issues w the UIL at Mt Vernon in his first year. Shocker I know)

Westlake is too uppity stuffy whitey to associate with a known cretin like Briles. Those types typically only associate with hypocritical cretins who maintain a shiny public persona.

It'll have to be a low down, country, don't give a shit type of University. Basically an SEC school outside of Vanderbilt. Tennessee should be the prime candidate. He'd fit in like a glove there.

Says a lot when even Saban wont admit Art into his ex-HC coach rehab program.

I would say a big part of it is also Art's disdain for defense.  Saban isn't hiring someone who might one day gripe about wasting time on defense in practice.
