We had seats 11-14 and nobody was squatting in our seats but someone down the row was squeezing in 2 extra people so it was a constant battle trying to keep our space, especially in a game like this where people are standing for every play. I agree that for $200 I want to sit my ass in the seat I paid for without constantly jockeying for position.

Blood pressure is up just thinking about it, these dudes were flexing because they had girlfriends with legit seats behind them. They said someone was in their seats so they’re not moving now. Threats didn’t work until we finally got someone official involved. It’s one of the reasons I didn’t go this year. I won’t mention it again, it happened, it’s over. Sorry if I got a little testy, rant over.

It was way better this year than in the past at least in my section (108). Dude in an ‘official’ yellow jacket camped out in the stairwell tossed 4-5 groups of people over the course of he game…

Now that they sell beer in the stadium there is zero reason to let people come in and out at half…

I’m surprised this is still happening.  As a conference the SEC has a rule that there is no leaving and coming back in later.

I brought 4 teenagers to the game last year. Me and a buddy went to get beers while they went to seats. When we got there, they were arguing with high school / college age boys that were in our seats and everyone in our part of Section 9 yelling at all 12 of us now. As soon as I got there they got the fuck out of there quickly, but it was not a pleasant scene.

This right here. If you’re a pussy ass bitch who can’t stand up for yourself and the ticket you paid for, there is a possibility you won’t get your seat. It shouldn’t have to be this way.

The backbone of the seat squatter argument is that you should’ve gotten there earlier to claim your seat. Fuck that, I paid hundreds of dollars for these seats and you need to move your ass when I get there. People that can’t stand up for themselves are getting fucked out of shit they paid for because security can’t do their jobs.

Letting anyone take your 400-1,500 dollar seat is peak beta male behavior. I dealt with this last year and asked them to show me their ticket and they laughed and said they dont have a ticket and bailed.

For sure. I’ve just never had that happen and I find it fairly unbelievable it does.

I’ve had people in my seats at a million different sporting events and every time I’ve flashed my tickets and they’ve moved without incident.

But it’s now happened to us two years in a row at the cotton bowl where there are students in our seats that wouldn’t move. And we are getting tickets through a rather large corporate sponsor of UT athletics. I mean, these are not the cheap seats in the end zone or students section.

Last year, a group of kids jammed in between the bench and the row, basically adding a row by standing on the bench. I had to restrain my friend from fighting this kid and told him that his options were to leave or I was going to get security. It took awhile but we finally got them out of there. This year the kids in our seats had the balls to tell us that their seats were all the way over in the end zone and they didn’t want to go over and sit there so they were just going to take ours. The sense of entitlement was unfucking believable. I was the one who had to be restrained this time. I haven’t bowed up on anyone in probably 30 years but I was about to plant that fucker into the aisle. I think he could tell I was serious because he slumped away pretty quickly but what the fuck is it with our own students? The fucking Sooners are better behaved.

If it was frat boys, don’t be surprised.  Entitlement is their way.  Access to daddy’s credit card, roofies for their dates because they have no actual game or personality, and they were probably raised by Biff and Mitzi never telling them “no” once in their lives.

Oh, and find a person of color in any photos of the traditional fraternities or sororities. You won’t.

Flew down from Boston to attend the game this year for the first time since I graduated. The Cotton Bowl is a complete shit hole. Vendors near section 125 ran out of water halfway through the second quarter, standing piss in the men’s room, and the concourse was so fucking packed with people that it took forever to get anywhere. The City of Dallas running that stadium is a complete joke, the whole atmosphere is a gong show. It’s the most fun game of the season but that stadium needs a major renovation now.

First, how dare you.

Second, I absolutely ran into this at the Disch last year, but in reverse.  There was a group of 5-6 seats that were hardly ever used the entire season.  During the last series (Florida) there were 3 kids (like 9 years old) that were occupying the empty seats and this frat kid shows up with a couple of sorority girls and immediately is a dick to these kids and tells them to get the fuck out of his seats.  They were obviously flummoxed and looked at my group with a "wtf do we do?" reaction.  There were a couple of open seats by us and we motioned for them to move there.  Meanwhile, I told the frat boy he didn't need to be so aggressive with those kids.  He rolled his eyes and ignored me.

Next day, he shows up again, but this time with his dad, who obviously was the season ticket holder (but literally had not shown up for any games until the last series of the season).  My dad was with me that game and was occupying one of their group of seats.  The frat kid's dad, predictably, had the same dickish attitude and quite rudely said we were in his seats.  Had he been cool, I of course would have been like, no problem and moved.

However, I instead asked him "why weren't you sitting in them then?"  He only had like 4 people with him, meaning 2 empty seats. So he wasn't even using them, just wanted to exert his ownership of the seats and be an asshole.  The frat kid then referenced how I was upset that he made those kids the day before move.  I replied, "Yes, you were a complete dick to those small children and there was no need for that.  You're just an asshole."  He didn't have much to say and I'm glad his dad got to see him called out for it.

Ultimately I of course moved with my dad to a couple of other seats together, but the entitlement was mind blowing.

I hope I see them next season so we can continue the conversation.

There's zero excuse for this and it has to be on fair park.

Houston Rodeo on a night with 200k people? cell signal at least usable with the multitude of temporary towers deployed by carriers.
Kerr County 48 hours after devastating floods?  same answer as above.

Fair park? omg no signal whatsoever

cdc can fix this real fast

the tower will issue an edict as follows:

any student, faculty or employee of The University, visually documented in a _SECTION_ of the cotton bowl for which they do not have tickets, will be suspended from entry in to or purchase of tickets to ut athletic sporting events for 10 years (or something draconian)

then, all you have to do is take pics with your phone and email them to belmont

the offenders can appeal - maybe they were in the wrong row - but 2 incidents in the same section draws the punishment

the zoomers have become conditioned to publishing their own version of reality and the people that run the fair give zero fucks what cdc says

it's come to this - wage war on our own students to preserve this tradition in this stadium

as for all of the other issues, the $150m renovation did very little to nothing to help with the problems the fair refuses to solve - it's a 501(c)3 that refuses to spend the money needed to make the product acceptable, safe, and equitable

the deathstar is not the solution

threatening to go home and home is the only thing that will get results

sorry, hate to say it, but paying hundreds of $ to stand in urine, with no access to water, and an un-managed crowd situation is no longer acceptable this deep in to the 21st century

Reminded me of going to games at Memorial Stadium (when that guy DKR was just a young head Coach) with mom, dad, and bro in the late 60's /early 70's. 🤘

I have to say, I called the AD’s office last year and complained about the issue. CDC called me back personally while I was driving somewhere. It was blue toothed to my radio and my kids were very impressed, they’d have never believed me if they hadn’t heard it. We talked for about 5 minutes and he told me he’d do what he could at the upcoming meetings but we’re kind of at the mercy of workers who are underpaid and apathetic at best. My suggestion was to at least have people who were solely in charge of removing squatters.

The stadium is a shitshow and you have to plan accordingly, especially in warm weather. Eat early then snack right before. Take a good piss. Do your heavy drinking the night before. Wear cargo shorts to load up water. They will not say shit.

Entry. Stalk your preferred entrance. Due to past years, the hot weather, and the 230 kick, too many people were in the stadium concourse. So, hang out in the shade, and go by 2pm or when the lines get too long.

I don’t know what was going on in the first half, but there was a sugared up 6 year old on the scoreboard. The down and distance and yard line was off repeatedly and without functioning audio, it was very annoying.

It seemed to get better after half, so I assume someone noticed.

The concourse issues were pretty bad. There was a mobile beer salesman right next to the entrance to our section entry, so a bunch of people were just standing in the entrance. I had to push my way through just to get to my section. Idiotic.

The cotton bowl has upgraded a shit load already. The game this year for me was 1,000 times better than last year and there isn’t a fix for a stadium that slams 100,000 people into a fair with little to no wiggle room outside the stadium. Livestock alley is one lane and will be packed and anyone that’s gone knows this, best way out is gate A through the midway where it opens up a little.

Look at the end of the day one of the best memories I have is sweating my ass off, eating a shit ton of fried food, being in an old stadium that’s iconic and beating ou. The game will be a sellout every year no matter what the stadium looks like and they did make it nicer this year and I don’t expect much more. if it’s that big of a beating stay home in your 68 degree house and watch it on a 75 inch flat screen tv.

You did just remind me that that unbearable motherfucker Bob Cole did somehow get ahold of a microphone (or was it a bullhorn?) before the game and started yelling “TEXAS!” “Fight!” trying to get the chant going. Thankfully, the PA system isn’t great, so we could barely hear him.

Texas fans have been chanting that since long before some self-important blowhard decided we needed his help. Maybe Bob could lead the Whisper Chant in a sound proof room somewhere. I’d vote for it.

Yeah, no shit. Don't go if it's too uncomfortable for you.  I still miss it when the Cotton Bowl had metal seats with little leg room. Banging your knees on the chair in front was part of the game experience.

The concourses were more jammed this year because the sun was blazing and so many people hung out there to get in the shade. My only real gripe was why do they place those portable concessions for beer/water in the narrow concourse. Really fucked up moving because you had long lines blocking what little space there was.

But overall, it's the most beautiful stadium in the world. 90,000+ seats all close to the field, outdoors, and a grass field. I'm in my 60's, but wouldn't .think of missing this game.

Not sure what to tell you. I bought myself two bottles of water before the game and had water left for the walk back to the car.

Yes, it would be ideal to have all you can drink. But they didn’t run out everywhere. I know this because I saw cases of water after the game. The bathroom situation was much better, and it does still need to improve.

Two 16 oz waters over a 4hr period of standing in the afternoon sun just isn’t enough. I’m not fucking asking for all you can drink water, but running out halfway through the second quarter isn’t acceptable. I shouldn’t have to trek around the entire stadium to find some kid selling water out of a fucking bag. This shit isn’t that hard to fix.

Buy more water if you are thirsty? Did you miss the towels they were handing out that you could get them to dunk in the ice water?

Its a 2:30PM kick in October in Texas. Its gonna be hot. I thought it was fine and its one of the most iconic venues in all of sports. There isn't a bad seat in the entire place.

Did you miss the part where I said they ran out of water? Vendors all around section 125 ran out before half. Only water I found was fucking halfway across the stadium on the main concourse level which I had to stand in line for about 30 mins to buy. The stadium also had fountains that didn’t work for some reason.

I sat in 126. We had water the whole game. You could also go down to the main concourse in about 2 minutes from 125 and there were like 5 vendor stands and all the actual food spots had water the entire time.

Pretty clear from the posts that it's a night and day difference between if you were on the renovated west side or non-renovated east side which happened to also be the side everyone was baking in the sun so non-renovated concourses extra crowded.  The west side was much improved.  Hopefully when they work on the east side the mensa candidates designing it can add a few more urinals to the restrooms. It's not rocket science.  Only 4 urinals in a restroom meant to be utilized by 1000+ people is true design malpractice, but still overall much better and next season i'm just going to go scout out where a bigger restroom is pregame.

I was on the west side and felt like the renovations made little, if any, difference.  Concourse was still a complete shitshow.

Not only did people squeezing into the rows and standing at the top of the aisles create a problem, some dumbass girls were also sitting at the top of the section steps, on each side, at halftime.  As a result, it was basically single-file out of there.  Of course, no ushers anywhere, so gave each of them a swift kick in the knees on the way to piss...I kid, but considered it.

Getting into the stadium was better this year, since it seemed like they had more ticket-scanners at the gate.

As someone mentions above, dunking the orange towels in the beer boxes was nice.

At the end of the game, the glare caused by the bare aluminum on the south side made it difficult to see our victory formation plays.  Do not fix.

Damn it was fun.

I don’t accept drinks from boys in Sperry’s and pastel polos or fishing shirts, so there wasn’t a chance for them to roofie me and touch me like I was one of their dates.

Been going to the CB since I was very little.  Went the last few years, missed this year because the boy is back from college and we all watched it from home.  The Fair and venue make the game.  It's endless drunk assholes on both sides jarring and talking shit all afternoon.  You revel when you win, you bail when you don't.  The food sucks, the bathrooms are nasty, and I DON'T GIVE A FUCK.

Aggy and pig tried to replicate it at Jerryworld and it's awful.  It's a sterile, homogenized, shit venue that both schools can't wait to get away from.  Our tickets were always lower, so I'd duck out of the stadium to get food/water/beer and take a piss.

I stood in that fucking stadium through the Gardere years, I stood in the freezing sleet during the 60+ ass-raping from Stoops early on where they sold more hot chocolate than beer for the first time ever.

It's the best venue for this magnitude of a game there is.

Did some people have a bad experience? Maybe, sure, whatever. Plenty of water vendors in sections 115-112 but YMMV.

But overall the renovations worked wonders for the most important issue: getting people in and out of the stadium quickly. For proof, look at how full the stands were before the start of the game. In previous years, it took me 30-40 minutes to get to my seat, sometimes missing kickoff. This year, probably 10-15; legitimately did not know what to do with all of the free time.

And judging by how full the stands were 5-10min before kickoff, my experience was not unique.
