I mean that doesn't take into account increased non-YTTV revenue for people that have switched services until this is resolved (raises hand).

right.  i haven't made a move yet since the Vandy game was on ABC and I have an antenna (and also because fuck Disney), but if this lasts too much longer I'm going to have to make a move.  I'm hoping there wasn't a mass cancellation of over the weekend and they get this resolved this week, but I can't imagine too many sports fans holding out that much longer.

Yeah imho the greater of two evils here, by far, is the Mouse, so fuck it. I'll either find a way to get their shit for free until they come to a deal with YTTV or I'll do without. I can't put the blame on YTTV for this shit. This is the same shit that happens, to varying degrees, with every other service that carries ESPN. I ain't gonna help the Mouse out by switching to another streaming service or cable, when they're trying to fuck me and everyone else. I can always go to a bar or something if I can't find a way to watch from home.

Fuck Disney.

This is where I am but I have yet to buy an antenna.

Looking at some and I am in Georgetown.

The cheapest one says the range is thirty miles or so and the step up says the range is fifty miles which I will purchase before this weekend if needed. Many good games on ABC this Saturday too.

Also will try either Sling or FUBO by Saturday if needed.

Suggestions ?

LOL.  Let's not pretend Google is innocent here.  Both just trying to maximize their respective profits.  I'm old enough to remember when it was the same song and dance with Fox leading up to the OSU game in August (although they resolved it at the last minute).   The reality is that in the streaming era live sports are, by far, the most valuable inventory as they still demand a premium for advertising.  The cost for those rights are only going up.  Hell Disney probably underpaid for SEC broadcast rights looking at ratings this year (when people thought they probably overpaid in 2000).    It's just a completely different market than 20 years ago when live sports didn't hold near the value they do now.

LOL that's why I said 'two evils', and that we've seen this shit before. These contract negotiations are nothing new. Content owners trying to get to a point where we have to go directly to them and they hold all the cards is a bit of a twist. And that's all fine, I guess, but when they wanna raise the price to a stupid level, then I'm out. I don't see YTTV doing anything else the cable/streaming aggregators haven't been doing for as long as they've existed. Disney isn't trying to do all of this to make less money, so I assume if they get their way, ESPN is gonna cost me a lot more than it costs for me to get it through YTTV.

BTW, for some reason the Cowboys game is in my YTTV dvr. WTF?

Wow, you are correct.  Mine too, it says it showed up 3 hours ago.  Nothing on my Longhorns album.

Edit: I bet the NFL Network has the rights to the game after it is live.

Have cowboy games programmed to record?

From the VHS days, time shifting recordings don't necessarily infringe copyrights, so it probably just recorded it automagically and will let you see it. While they wouldn't let you see the live broadcast.

Same reason game recordings often stay up on YT.

I’ll just take a moment to remind folks that DirecTV Stream is pretty good. First month for plan to include SECN (choice) came out to $73 and change, and that’s because I’m obligated to pick up the regional sports networks for $13/mo. If you’re in a region that doesn’t, it’s $59 and change. Next 2 months are $10 off.

I like their guide a little more than YTTV, especially the favoriting. Have my guide setup with like the only 27 channels we watch. I don’t think anyone matches YTTV for over the internet stream quality, but DTV Stream was pretty damn decent.

They also have a 5 day free trial.

Worst part about it is they don’t have tvOS apps or multiview.

It doesn't matter what happens now as far as I'm concerned. I'll continue to buy the 1 day Sling pass just for Saturday games but once the NFL season is over, I'm canceling YTTV. You wanna remove access to my most watched channels including Monday Night Football and only give me $20 despite having NFL Sunday Ticket? Fuck you. You broke your agreement so you're dead to me.

Yeah I mean they all suck in some way, maybe YTTV and Sling excluded. I don’t want Fubo bc of Disney’s 10% stake and me having the opinion of Disney being more to blame than Google here.

Hulu similarly with their bundling with Disney.

Pretty much leaves OG cable, satellite and antenna. I would go with antenna, but then switching between games like I like to do on 2 different screens is void of all the non locals.

Yeah, NFL games set to record. Nothing else showing up that I know of, like MarkStanco said. Maybe it's an NFL Network thing, like he said.

Also, if you go through YTTV’s support chat, you can get a full refund for your month payment when you cancel, not just $20. If you bought Sunday Ticket with them, I bet you could get partially refunded there, but I didn’t try.

I see people have mentioned getting Sling TV, however, it's my understanding they don't carry ABC in most markets. I found this list (which might or might not be accurate)...

Here are the cities and affiliates that Sling TV supports as of early 2024:

  • WLS in Chicago
  • KFSN in Fresno
  • KTRK in Houston
  • KABC in Los Angeles
  • WABC in New York City
  • WPVI in Philadelphia
  • WTVD in Raleigh-Durham
  • KGO in San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose

What part of "two evils" did you not understand?

You're arguing against a point that literally no one, living now on planet Earth, is making.

That's it. NFL Network rebroadcasts each game. Eat shit, mouse.

Does direct tv stream require a contract for certain amount of time, I don’t mind switching over for a couple and switching back if I need to.

No contract, you can cancel it whenever you want.

I like YouTube TV. I like multi view, the unlimited library, the easy use, etc.  I have Sunday Ticket.
People can complain about the price increases but I paid $220 for AT&T U-verse the year before I canceled and got YTTV. Even at $90 a month, they've been saving me money while giving me the same content.
I'll wait this one out until the football season ends. Between an HD antenna, online streams, and friends' logins, I can manage. But I really hope YTTV breaks ESPN.
ESPN/ABC have had the highest rated games every single weekend lately. No matter how much they want to drive the app, lower ratings aren't gonna look good. Curious to see where the three big ABC games today end up in the ratings.
I have YTTV and I like it too. I cancelled Mouse, but it is tough. I am a Star Wars and Marvel guy too, and HBO originals are up there for some of my favorite all time programs. But they first forced me to give up my $129 Disney plan, that used to be the $99 plan, so I could pay $300+/year to add ESPN for SEC Network, Hulu (meh) but wife and kids say yah, and Max? A la carte it's well North of that.

As I said, fuck them. My cancellation only counted when it was part of the 17 million or so that cancelled recently. Consumer activism takes effort with a company where that represents 8 percent of total subs. I cord cut from Spectrum to GFiber/YTTV and happy to spread pain across the media sphere, but content and platform 'neutrality' is a worthy fight, and like you said, YTTV does a lot well for still relatively less.

The NHL should learn from the nfl. Their contract with local teams is a joke. Can’t rebroadcast on their own channel.

Great point. Same boat here. Moved from UVerse to YTTV a couple of years ago. It's a massive upgrade overall, & I still pay far less, even at the current prices. I wonder what UVerse costs now for the same content I get, or Spectrum etc for that matter (still without an unlimited dvr, ability to watch anywhere, etc afaik).

The Mouse and the utter dogshit ESPN App can both eabod & diaf.

I left Uverse two months ago. Was paying $310 for one tv including internet. Insane. It had risen from $220 in six months. They obviously are raising prices to maximize profits before pulling the plug on the service so.

Im currently login whoring yttv and Disney until I figure out what to do.

my billing cycle renews on the 17th. Will likely do the same if not resolved by this weekend.

yeah Sling was a pain in the ass for locals that I coped with for LHN (RIP)

Instead, now I just set money on fire getting some upper tier of Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ and Netflix and Amazon Prime and YouTube premium. Never thought I’d miss time warner cable.

Directv/ATT can lick my taint.  If they offered me every channel for $5/month, I'd still tell them to eat a dick.

I heard a sports talk host recently crapping all over the ESPN app.  He would like that app to die by firing squad.

Seems appropriate.

Haha why the hate? I had uverse and their gigabit Ethernet for some time and didn’t have a problem unique to ATT. I feel like all telecom companies suck.
