Gotta move up the draft board?

Don't want Meacham to serve as interim, find a way to win a few games, and get handed the job. We need a complete reset.

If there were 3 coaches you’d like to interview for the HC role who would they be?

We probably do not need two threads dedicated to Mike Gundy on a Texas fan site.
I think we should have one thread for the entire forum. Anything over that is way too much.

GJ Kinne

Jon Sumrall (Tulane HC)

Will Stein (Oregon OC)

He'll be on TV somewhere. His press conferences are interesting and he knows a lot about the game obviously. Whether you like him or hate him he's still a known personality. No way he enters politics. He could say all the right things for this red state and he'd still be hated by more than half the state because he built his reputation at OSU and not OU. Hell, Cale Gundy has a better chance at being elected, he'd fit right in with today's climate.

Yeah, no fucking way. Wearing that stupid t shirt that one time was about all he needed to learn about politics to stfu. He’ll be interesting talking football on tv.

Low rent by OSU brass.  Should have let him come out and say "I am retiring after this year".  If they did offer that, and he said no, then this is justified.

I’m almost certain he was given the retirement option and said no.

I love Kinne. He’s legit. Does amazing with less.

Your list is awesome.

He's also likely to inject his politics on any TV feature he does (lest we forget the t-shirt he wore) since he's no longer a public employee, so hard pass on that.

He has been a HC for 21 years and I don’t even know what his politics are. I can’t think of any coach whose politics I know.

OAN might be more his speed. Get an FCS Game of the week on that channel and let him do his thing.

OSU should have been more understanding. He probably had a difficult few weeks after the loss of Charlie Kirk.

Pipe dream. OSU is going to hire Will Stein. Jalen Lott will decommit and promptly commit to Texas. DMoore will transfer to Texas.

The Will Stein part actually makes a lot of sense.

Gundy wore an OAN t-shirt once, so the fear is he's a card-carrying Republican at best, right-wing nut job at worst.

I think you've got it backwards, dude. Now that he doesn't have to recruit young black kids from a demographic that mostly hates his fucking politics, he can tee off and be himself.

Gundy calls the transfer portal "liberalism."

Well, then you haven't followed recruiting. Because his politics are out there. Also, don't look too closely into the politics of Bruce Pearl (your next senator of Alabama).

re: midseason doing it now....

the ctj news re: lagway in a boot as potential leverage in a negotiation/threat to redshirt with the timing related to florida's 4th game makes me think the oSu admin wants to force/give their roster the opportunity to check out now so they have a head start on clearing the decks for a complete reset

There was just a little more to it than that.

I'm sorry, I don't care enough about Gundy's - or anybody's - political leanings or opinions unless talking face-to-face.

A plausible theory.

OSU can find out who is really committed to the program, moving forward.

That's fine I'm just saying it wasn't just about the shirt. This shit was all over college sports news back in 2020, it wasn't exactly out there on the fringe. If you didn't see it you were averting your eyes.

We hired Oregon's pitching coach this offseason, maybe they were buddies, LOL. He's high on my list.

Gundy's story has had a great arc that is now complete. What do you see happening?

Whatever you do, don't start a new thread, my friend.

I had forgotton about the second thing, but my distinct memory of his response to both was really uncomfortable. He didn't like to talk about it, I'm just not seeing him give a shit about politics other than having his own personal beliefs that almost certainly very conservative. He'd make far more money and have a lot more fun on TV talking college football. I bet he'll be on a panel this weekend.

Alabama ain’t gonna elect a Jewish candidate for statewide office.

Yeah, two threads is stupid. Posted in the other thread I think he'll be on an analyst panel as early as this weekend and that will be his foreseeable future.

He's probably got a dozen phone calls from sports media execs to appear this weekend on some panel.

Maybe. Gundy has made a lot of money. If I were him, and a big outdoorsman as he is, I'd probably look at my immediate firing as a chance to really enjoy deer season all the way through for the first time in a long time.

Not that you're wrong, but this guy should be considered in some contexts.

I think it's highly likely that they wouldn't be able to do this midseason without a donor group having committed to funding the buyout and the same donor group committing to fund an NIL package for the next coach. The AD Chad Weiberg has been on the hot seat too, his contract expired this summer and has not yet been extended, though he's still on the job. My guess is that he did the hard work since Friday making those calls and getting it put together and saved his own position. Some are speculating that AD Emeritus Mike Holder stepped in and got it done in which case Weiberg would certainly be let go later this week. The fact that Weiberg's photo is on one of the official announcements from the school makes me think he got it done including getting some donors on board. All speculation at this point but the Tulsa World reported this morning before the Gundy news that insiders expected a decision on Weiberg by tomorrow.

Whatever his views are, he did stand with his current and former players even after they called him/the program out publicly for all the stuff they had seen/heard (and didn't make any excuses from what I remember) so for that at least he deserved a few kudos. I bet he'd make a fine TV analyst.

The UNT coach  is an up and comer.

Yes and he has them rolling. Which UNT probably knows as soon as nice things happen their coach is getting poached. If I was the AD of UNT,  I would send a UNT coffee mug filled with goodies to the AD of the school that poaches UNT’s coach. To start a dialogue. 😃 just keeping up relations.

He hasn't won 10 games and has zero connection to Weinberg. There is next to no chance he's getting poached.

I’d add Eric Morris to this list. I think he’s a better coach than Kinne and builder of team.

He wasn't a better coach when they played last year.

Ahh, yes. The halcyon days of 2020, where everything made sense and for which everyone should be held accountable for the rest of their lives and should never live down anything that they got wrong during that period.

No one said anything like this you fucking weird bitch. You're winding yourself up over nothing, again. It's fine to not pay attention, but it is a fact that it was in your face, front page college sports news at the time.

I even said that his response to the controversy was commendable. You're just acting like a god damn freak and trying to find something to be mad about, as usual.
