I imagine it would have gone something like this;

"Weird! I didn't peg him for and MSNBC guy" or "Who wears cable channel news t-shirts? Weird." and then everyone moved on with their lives.

This is the proper response for a normal, mature adult.

So many Gundy memories.

A good one is from the 2009 game, Saturday night in Stillwater. A lot of people thought the Cowboys would upset Texas the way Tech did the year before. Nope, the defense wasn’t having it.

By the third quarter, Earl Thomas had Texas’ second pick six, giving Texas a 20 point lead. The camera showed Gundy on the sideline, calmly discussing it with QB Zack Robinson. I’m sure he asked what coaches always ask, “Tell me what you were seeing”.

Whatever Robinson told him convinced Gundy to only call running plays and get the game over.

That was the halloween game.

This kid was the shit.

Okie Lite is P4 in Name Only. Always going to have tablescraps even in its own state. No NIL opportunities. Not a desirable place to be a college aged person.

Granted I’m twenty years past my prime but I think Stillwater would be a pretty cool place to live in college.

So do a shitload of Texas kids.  Can't count how many friend's kids have gone to school there.

He suddenly forgot how to coach? Or they don't have their shit together and/or don't have the money to compete in the new NIL world?

My nephew started off college at A&M, was miserable, and left for Oklahoma State and loved it.

Especially if he got started right away.

what I saw was that he could not hire shit for coordinators and the ones he did hire did not last and totally sucked......he was having to dip down into D1-AA and lower to get coordinators it seemed

That's just media coming out with lists, his name has and will come up a lot for these openings. He's not someone I'm particularly interest in hiring but who knows he could have a big year.

I haven't taken a deep dive and likely won't but I posted earlier in response to who my top three would be and as far as I can tell from the names being floated out there I went with

GJ Kinne

Jon Sumrall (Tulane HC)

Will Stein (Oregon OC)

I really liked Klein as a player and thought he deserved the Heisman more than Johnny 8-Ball in 2012

But, his offense sucks, so I'd also prefer he stay at A&M longer. Good luck, OSU

I'm curious

What did your nephew like more about OSU vs A&M. Stillwater is even more backwater than Collie Station. No fake army turditions?

I'm a city guy and loved my 4 years in Stillwater as a college student. Lots of football people are from and like small towns. Stillwater is smaller than some other college towns but everything you need is there and Tulsa and OKC are only an hour away. It's not for everyone but there are people who prefer it to larger cities and towns. And yeah, no fake armies. Boone also started at aggy and transfered to OAMC/OSU way back when.

Same.

Stillwater, Manhattan, and Ames are all basically the same place.  I've been to games in both Stillwater and Manhattan and was always blown away by how natural/comfortable it felt.  As long as ISU, KSU, and OSU are in the same conference, that feels like a world I can live in.

Okay, what does Stillwater have that College Station doesn't? It's about an 1 1/2 hours from Houston. I'm assuming that the culture and vibe is better than aggy. That's why I asked.

Yes, the culture and vibe are better, isn't that enough?

Don’t recall the year but attended OK St at Texas game in 2000s and watched OSU players get off the bus and they were absolutely holy shit huge.  Texas won but tough game.

Way better.

Stillwater doesn't have the cult vibe.  People are laid back, friendly, and like to party.  Good music scene.  Just way less "stick up ass"/weirdo shit.

I've been to a game at College Station as well.  Stillwater was far more my scene.  I had fun in College Station, and was treated well, but I felt like I was interacting with aliens.  OK State peeps felt like Iowa Staters in orange.

Ahh, yes. The halcyon days of 2020, where everything made sense and for which everyone should be held accountable for the rest of their lives and should never live down anything that they got wrong during that period. Right. I don't really follow half the shit some of you guys get bent out of shape over, this Gundy stuff included, but seeing someone act incredulous over the notion that people checked out during that psychotic year of dystopian bullshit is fucking comical.

All of the political whining, fear-mongering and potshotting about Gundy's personal views is fucking boring, as usual. It comes up every.fucking.time.he's.mentioned. The guy is a character who will say both funny and idiotic shit about football and would be awesome if given a slot on one of the CFB platforms. While not true of the demographics of this site, for the most part, most viewers would find him entertaining and not give one shit about viewpoints he espoused 5+ years ago. It's a given that he's a clown. That has been known and mocked about him for 2 decades. He had a fucking mullet for years, for Christ's sake.

I've always liked the guy, too. When he was mentioned for the Texas job, I didn't hate the idea. He just seems a little more small town. I'd be glad to see him on a college football show.

No.

I had a very different experience on the way to Kyle (the one bad part of the trip).  One of my buddies got separated from the rest of us wandering into the game, and I'm yelling at him over the phone out front of Kyle Field, undoubtedly dropping F-bombs, when some unhinged old guy runs up to me (I'm like 23 at this point) and almost rips the phone at of my hand and starts screaming at me about how "WAY DON'T TALLK LIKE THAT IN FRUNT OF WIMMIN SUN".  I was just utterly shell shocked, and his entourage quickly peeled him away from me before I had a chance to even consider a reaction.

My buddies and I just stand there stunned, when some other guys our age run up to us and say "Y'all know who that was?  You just got your ass chewed by RC Slocum?".

Utterly surreal moment.  We found my buddy shortly after, and then he dropped an F bomb during the game, and some lady behind us grabbed a state trooper, who drug us up to the concourse and threatened to arrest us for public intox.

Everyone else was pretty cool though.

My collie station experience was as a member of the OSU marching band (NERDS!!!) and we were told to keep our equipment close because their band/corp was known to try and steal shit. The corp was later caught trying to steal the OSU flag and were confronted by the male cheerleaders who took it back from them. The corp "leader" then pretended to yell at them for trying to steal our shit but was almost certainly for getting caught. Oh, and the aggy parade went right by us pregame and when the kids with shovels following the horses went by we yelled at them "Way to shovel that shit bro!" or something to that effect. They were not happy with us lol.

AD Chad Weiberg said at the press conference that they did not discuss him staying on for the year but I don't believe him and think he just want's to avoid that line of thinking since Gundy turned it down.

Not to mention he was one of the best and most knowledgeable personalities on the coaches room for alternative playoff coverage a few years back.

So let’s say Gameday adds him. How long before McAfee shows up wearing a shirt with “I’m a man, I’m 40!” on the set?

We cant be too far off from McAfee being found dead in an auto-erotic asphyxiation accident, can we?

Wonder who the interim will be.
Top two obvious choices:

Craig T. Neslon

Kyle Chandler

Definitely Craig T. Nelson.

He coached at Ampipe High School before his success at Minnesota State.
