this is awesome. could you imagine the board if Quinn tucked the ball and took the sack there? the guy tried to make a play and didn’t, worst possible outcome happened which i didn’t even consider as a possibility before the snap because of how unlikely it was. complete no win situation for him there and it never should have gotten to that point. That sequence was a microcosm of our offensive failures this year. OL got their asses whipped 3 of 4 plays, Sark ran a couple of slow developing plays on the fucking goal line that completely backfired, and Quinn turned the ball over. the trifecta.

When the defense forced a pick six from Howard, or a punt return TD from SIlas, you would be talking about the sack that Quinn took when his RT got whipped and we used the field position and our chance to make the most of the situation to tie the game back up and go to OT?

Fuck this take.

He didn’t win the heisman like we expected but he played his best ball in the playoffs. He was 2 plays away from 2 championship game appearances. His record speaks for itself.

Would you rather have Hudson Card? David Ash? Case McCoy? Casey Thompson? Swoopes? Heard? Who am I missing?

Modern Texas football QB Rushmore is VY, Colt, QE, Sam. We can debate the rankings but come the fuck on.

Hes played with 4 NFL backs: bijan, jb, roschon, keilan; 4 NFL receivers: worthy, whitt, AD, JT…not counting Gunnar who’ll go also.

In year 1 all 9 of those guys were on the roster at the same time.

Since colts time, theres been a total of 5 offensive players drafted, and thats counting Geoff Swaim.

Unfortunately quinn is the teams ceiling, not its floor.

He had 2 1000's after the snap to get rid of the ball. Go count them. You cannot throw this ball short of the end zone. There are two free defenders guarding the EZ. You throw this ball to Golden and he is tackled short. It's 4th down. Ball has to go to the EZ.

Yes they can fail in that moment and Quinn failed. So why are you pretending he didn’t?

You’re being an intentionally obtuse asshole instead seeing the clear point being made. The right play is the right play. He made the wrong one. No one thinks it’s unique to Quinn, but that doesn’t mean we pretend that he didn’t fuck up.

Instead of doing this stupid ass “oh you just don’t get it” thing you could have just said, yea he made a bad play and moved on. Shit maybe bads not even the right word. But he made the wrong play for sure.

Because you don't get it. Your lack of understanding of the razor thin margin for success given the situation says you've never been in anything like that. There is no understanding with you guys. At all. He throws it away he is ass. He tucks and falls he is ass. He tries to run and gets tackled at the 5 he is ass. The moment Cam Williams did what he did the season was over unless by some miracle Quinn got an accurate pass off just before he got hit. He tried and failed. It is what it is. The problem is blaming the QB for failing in a near impossible situation than why the situation happened in the first place.

You are the guy who blames the person who didn't avoid the wrong way driver on the highway. You are the guy who blames the sexual assault victim for how she was dressed. You are the guy who blames the parents for naming their kid Tyrone because his application got thrown in the trash as soon as they read it. Blaming the driver who got T-boned while passing through a green light. Blaming the security guard for getting shot in a robbery. Now I know you well enough to know you aren't that guy but you see how this is the same right?

Who gives a shit? The 2nd down play call was not Quinn and that was the game.

In two semifinals, we are 0 for 8 on calling the Touchdown Play at the critical juncture, with an average result of -1 point per play (rounded).

This is not our preferred Standard.

Other than running left or ducking sawyer I don’t see what Quinn could’ve done there.  He couldn’t have hit Golden

There wasn’t really anything to be done. Hence my point about protecting the ball.

i don’t know what you’re trying to say here, but if Quinn takes that sack this entire board would be calling for his head on a pike and there’s not a single person who could say otherwise. I’d be among them. That ball has to get thrown in that situation regardless of the outcome. If the RT was able to be something more than a traffic cone that the DE simply runs by then ball gets in the air and we live with the results. Instead, the DE gets to Quinn in his throwing motion, they get the absolute perfect bounce, and the season was over.

We don’t know what Quinn’s reads are in this situation and if it’s left to right, Cam gave him absolutely no time. But if you look at their alignment over the top, the safety is going to scream down on golden. He’s not wide open in this situation. IMG_3052.thumb.jpeg.8b7a987311a3997a653c14d0520d6a4b.jpeg
Wingo was also running underneath Gunnar which takes a little bit of time.

How does this happen? Was there some miscommunication from the center or QE or what? Someone explain what could have been going through his head to not know sawyer was his responsibility

He was hurt to a point that he probably shouldn’t have been in the game but we’re talking about the most flagged olinemen in the nation. You would hope 5 could manage 4 in that situation. Cam and Connor got embarrassed in less than a second with the season on the line.

Best Texas QB since Sam...

Guy just looks lost when he has to make a decision after the snap.  So many of his sacks and bad throws are from normal pressure, ie. 3+ seconds.

I really don't see him getting drafted on day 1-2, and it's hard to see him being successful in the NFL as a starter or even being a career backup.  He won't be returning to Fansville or Austin, but he should not enter the draft.

I took a lot of shit from people for saying he wouldn't be drafted after last season but I can see him being a late draft pick maybe in the 6th round. He's not NFL ready. There's just no way he's going to join an NFL roster and immediately have anything resembling success. My best hope for him is he gets drafted by a team with hopes of developing him like they did with Aaron Rodgers. Sit him for 3 years and see what he can do.

Pretty big screw up Williams.  Blue should be in the game.  That angle route is going to be a tough cover in that alignment.  I’d for sure like the 2 WR-side over the Helm-Wisner side.

Did he not know it was his? It looked to me like his technique just sucked. His first step provided him zero depth and is horizontal instead of having some movement back. He set himself up to whiff because his feet were awful.

My single biggest complaint with Sark and Ewers, is that in the college football game you have to at least have the defense consider the QB might run.  Might he get blown up on that naked bootleg?  Sure.  But he might scamper harmlessly out of bounds and move the sticks!  That then slows the pass rush just a millisecond, with a slight look to the QB on a rnning play.  Sark should have taken a tendency of no concern for Ewers legs by the defense, and make them pay.  It's also hard to have a truly dominating running game at the college level IMHO, if you don't have a QB who is a running threat.  That's the secret sauce to saving seasons, and national championships.  It's the extra guy the defense is forced to scheme for, otherwise it's 11 v 10.

We got close.  It could have been very, very bad had we not recovered our fumbles.  Really fucking bad.  Still Ewers managed to pull some shit out of his ass, just to get us past ASU.  and you can't blame the kid for Sark starting him.  I dare say that I am very, very glad we pulled off the ASU win.  Because had we lost that one, OSU would have rolled the shit out of them, and a lot of the shine of the season would have mentally tarnished. IMHO.

A tip of the hat to Quinn for helping us get so close twice!  As i have told a lot of folks over time.  Sometimes at the top levels the other guys are pretty good too.  And they can also make plays!  Let's see if we can get another step forward with next years crew.  We are a shit ton closer than we were just a few short years ago.

This.

I foolishly thought this was the game we were going to come out and show some RPO/zone read just to soften up the D a little bit early, if nothing else to help soften up the middle for Wisner/Blue.  I refuse to believe Quinn can’t run… it’s some combination that he doesn’t want to/Sark won’t allow it .

Is there anything definitive pointing to him not being fully recovered other than supposition? I get that Goosby was less than stellar against ASU, so there is reason to believe that it was a decision of suboptimal options available. I wonder if Cam will ever realize his full potential.

You could tell during the game that he wasn’t 100% and if he was then oh boy.

You can blame Sark for the 2nd down call or Cam Williams for the missed block, but the fact remains we are 0 for 8 in trying to score a TD inside the opponent's red area in two semifinals. The blame must go to both the playcaller and the QB in addition to evey other role players who missed their assignments.
Absolutely. Both are at fault. But at some point, Quinn needs to make a play down there. He never did back to back years. Neither him or Sark improved in play calling or play making respectively. Cost us at a national championship birth both times.

That play is just another play now, it had the potential to be legacy defining but for now Quinn’s legacy is coming up short in the red zone in back to back years with chance to punch your ticket to the national title.

The discussion was the semifinals redzone failures with a national championship on the line. That play has a not less meaning now. Had to a chance to define his legacy forever. But your legacy isn't built in that round.

Ewers definitely has an issue with ball security.  the sack wasn't on him but he has to get that ball in the air or at least not fumble it.

In his defense he had like 2.5 seconds before he was getting sacked, not even enough time for the play to develop. The shitty playcalling caused that situation. The goal line series is on Sark more than anyone.

Oh I know. I'm on record that Sark is a fucking idiot.

Was Cam Williams really healthy? I know he was cleared to play. Bond was too and he wasn't healthy and maybe even Ewers isn't either, will never know it seems.

A healthy Goosby might have been a better option than a dinged-up Cam Williams.

Still the bad call of a deep pitch against a defense with that kind of speed shouldn't have happened.

Yeah roomie was on him hitting the ball before he could even get it pulled back to throw. That's not on Ewers imho.

I’m sure it’s been said here other than “more Arch”. But I’d suggest to not go watch all of Arch’s highlights this year. I’m no coach, but we would be in the title game if he was our guy.

Granted, I don’t think Quinn was the reason we lost. (See OL). But he wasn’t the answer to winning a title either.

I’m a forever believer in the “need a mobile qb to win in college football “ camp. They don’t have to be Vick or VY, but they need to be a threat every play with their legs.

Quinn was a threat, maybe once a game.

If you go watch all of Arch’s games this year. Man. The offense changes. The play calls change. We get rollout play calls, he moves up in the pocket when there is pressure. He picks up yards when plays are broken down. It’s something to watch. I wish we could have seen more.

I get that Sark must have had an agreement with Quinn to let him be the man, but man, Arch was the answer, and the only way we could have had a chance this year. I really believe that .

I appreciate Quinn and all he did for Texas. But, next year can’t get here fast enough.

Ewers said post game he thought he could get the ball off. Him saying that says he processed it quickly enough time to make the throw instead of just taking the sack, even though it was 4th down. I believe that a sack with 2 timeouts and the 2 minute timeout is superior than a scoop and score.

Quinn got made a fool again in the RZ with yet another fumble return for a TD, but because we “don’t know football” calling out Quinn on this thread is equivalent to saying rape victims deserved it for how they were dressed. You need to step back and take a look in the mirror because you and all your pro-Quinn bullshit is taking things too far. Get some help dude, seriously. You might need a Derka time out for the things you just said.

So according to you, not being able to score from the one is  QBs fault. He should have never been in a position to fumble while dropping back. Absolute terrible OL blocking and play calls. I can't wait for dumb asses to start calling for Trey Owens next year.

all the great Texas qbs thru the years were mobile and made plays with their legs. Quinn doesn't , so he gets no benefit of the doubt and is no good to a lot of fans. I feel QE will be the qb compared to in the future for all non mobile qbs that'll be playing for Texas.
