I actually don't mind Taylor Swift. Listen to some of her stuff, and about every other genre. Sydney must be having a mid-life crisis. He's complaining about old people in multiple threads, despite the fact he's pretty old too. Methinks he doth protest too much.

The Graduate is a banger, even if (or, really, in part because) Dustin Hoffman's character is such a colossal tool.

Are we just letting this thread go down whatever tangent until recruiting picks back up? I'm fine with that, just want to be in step with the vibe.

Anyway, prime Katherine Ross may have been one of the most beautiful women to ever live.

I’m pretty sure I combined the names Robert Earl Keen and James Earl Jones. Oh well. So if I add the fact that he went to Sharpstown High School - I’ll probably screw up and find out he went to Westbury.

To kind of tie this to the music theme, Mrs. Robinson is just a fantastic song. And I'm not usually a fan of a ton covers, but I thought the Lemonheads did it justice

  1. Saying that Taylor is better than The Who is objectively incorrect, but hey, it takes all stripes I guess.
  2. That said, Taylor is great. One billion times more talented than all the knock off versions like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.
  3. Exception to #2 is Olivia Rodrigo. She fucks.
  4. I fuck with Huntr/x heavily right now and I don’t care who knows it. That shit goes.
  5. Yes, I do have pre-teen daughters, how did you know?  My dudes, it gets so, so much worse than Taytay and Huntr/x. Be thankful for the wins when you get them.
  6. God damn it we really need some news and/or the season.
  7. I hate you all and this thread. And myself.

I was born in 1979. On this board that doesn’t make me middle aged.

Objectively based on what criteria? Album sales? #1 hits? If you’re going to say objectively, you’ve got to use factual merits.

“He loved Bob Dylan,” Hendrix producer Eddie Kramer told Sound on Sound. “He was fascinated by the color of the lyrics and the tone of the lyrics, and of course the chord sequences were wonderful. It was a very special song.”

“It overwhelmed me, really,” Dylan said of the Hendrix cover in Florida’s Sun-Sentinel. “He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn’t think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day.”

In the booklet accompanying his 1985 album Biograph, Dylan added, “I liked Jimi Hendrix’s record of this and ever since he died I’ve been doing it that way . . . Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it’s a tribute to him in some kind of way.”

One of my favorite stories of genius obsession leading to historic greatness. Hendrix wore everyone around him out working through getting that song perfect. Some have argued that is cosmically contributed to his untimely death not long afterward.

The Stampede: 2026 prospects to know for Texas heading into fall

Quote

Less than one month before Texas kicks off its season at Ohio State, 21 prospects make up the next batch of incoming Longhorns in the program's 2026 recruiting class, which currently ranks as the nation's 6th-best.

While that group already consists of a loaded roster of blue-chip prospects, it's still a foregone conclusion that Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns will add even more to the class.

Just as focus moves from the recruiting trails to training camp, Horns247 presents a guide to the future for Texas in the 2026 cycle, and which prospects could be next to choose the Longhorns.

Frisco Panther Creek Top50 Oregon WR commit Jalen Lott

Jalen Lott (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)
Though the Longhorns seem content with their current group of receivers that includes Chris Stewart, Kohen Brown, and athlete take Jermaine Bishop, Steve Sarkisian and Co. have routinely operated under the best player available mindset, and Lott fits that mold quite well. Yes, he's a legacy that chose the Ducks over the Longhorns, but signing day isn't until December and the travel distance from home to Eugene only becomes more and more of a real thing as signing day creeps up. Since we're in August the flip chances are relatively low, but with the way this staff has recruited and pulled off flips in the past, it wouldn't be super surprising if the Longhorns were able to gain traction towards a flip at some point in the season. (SCRUGGS)

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy Top100 Edge Jake Kreul
Out of the 44 prospects who officially visited Texas in June, Kreul is the one of just two to remain uncommitted, and the only that still remains in contact with the program. At the time of his visit, the Longhorns were considered a contender, but not nearly on the same level as Oklahoma or Florida, both of which have held an assumed lead in this recruitment at some points throughout the last few months. Now, with a decision looming, many close to the situation believe that Texas has increased their chances for the nation's No. 8 Edge as of late, and may have taken the driver's seat ahead of the Sooners and the third finalist, Ole Miss. (TURBOFF)

Rancho (Cali.) Santa Margarita Catholic Top247 USC WR commit Trent Mosley
Trent Mosley
Trent Mosley (Photo: Shotgun Spratling | USCfootball.com, 247Sports)
The Longhorns were fans of Mosley early in the cycle, but the staff was never able to get him on campus prior to USC landing his commitment on March 11th. The younger brother of Longhorn wideout Emmett Mosley V, Trent chose the Trojans over Stanford and Notre Dame. USC has a strict no-visit policy for prospects who have already committed to the Trojans, so it'll be interesting to see if Mosley joins his parents on any trips to Austin to see his older brother at home games this fall as you can assume Texas will try to take advantage of the opportunity if it presents itself. Texas will have the opportunity to host Mosley three times in September and three times in November when the Longhorns have home games. With Emmett going into his sophomore year this fall, the brothers would have the opportunity of being on the same team for up to two years if Trent ended up flipping to Texas. (SCRUGGS)

Pensacola (Fla.) Pine Forest five-star LSU Edge commit Trenton Henderson
Henderson has held an offer from the Longhorns since January, but nearly all buzz surrounding Texas in this recruitment came about in the few weeks leading up to his July 2 commitment. Before officially visiting on June 20, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound pass rusher made his way to the Forty Acres in an unofficial capacity earlier in the month. Once he wrapped up that second trip, Texas battled LSU and Florida for a bit, but seemingly landed in third place as he chose the Tigers. That being said, it's expected that Clark and the rest of the staff will be pursuing Henderson until National Signing Day, and locking him in for a third visit to Austin is a major point of emphasis. (TURBOFF)

Honolulu (Hi.) Kamehameha Top247 Michigan OT commit Malakai Lee

Malakai Lee (Photo: Hank South, 247Sports)
After missing out on Felix Ojo and Lee earlier this summer, Texas and Ojo have gone separate ways whereas Lee is expected to remain in the sights of Kyle Flood and Co. until pen meets paper in December. The Longhorns need offensive tackles, and specifically a left tackle, which Lee profiles better too than anyone else that's left available in the cycle. Though the Longhorns only hosted Lee twice throughout the process — once in the eighth grade where he was offered, and once for his June official visit — Texas does have some connections here that should help. Lee's father worked with Liona Lefau's father for a long time, Lee's family has several friends in the DFW metroplex, and Lee's trainer is Brandon Baker's uncle. There's also been chatter that Lee's family plans to move to an area nearby where he attends college which would be interesting considering Honolulu, Ann Arbor, and Austin are all very different. A flip will be an uphill battle since a return visit is likely needed and Austin isn't an easy place to get to from Hawaii for a gameday trip during football season, but it's still too early to count out the Longhorns completely for the Top247 tackle. (SCRUGGS)

Duncanville Top247 Ole Miss Edge commit Landon Barnes
Texas has Top247 pass rusher Richard Wesley in the boat already, but is still in search of another EDGE to add to the class before signing day. That said, Barnes becoming more of a flip candidate will likely depend on what Jake Kreul decides but nonetheless Barnes is still a name to know heading into the season. The Duncanville Panther chose Ole Miss over Ohio State and Washington in late June and also took official visits to Arizona State and LSU. Texas offered Barnes in late April after LaAllan Clark attended one of his practices and hosted him in Austin for an unofficial visit shortly after, but an official visit was never added to the schedule as Barnes' calendar was already full. Texas having a shot at a flip will likely depend on Barnes making it in for a Texas official visit in the season. The Longhorns have some interesting ties here with former Duncanville Panthers Colin Simmons and Alex January on the d-line, and we're curious to see if Texas eventually parlays that into a flip attempt come the fall. (SCRUGGS)

Westlake Village (Cali.) Oaks Christian Top50 Oregon commit Davon Benjamin

Davon Benjamin (Photo: Texas Athletics)
In the weeks leading up to Benjamin's decision this past Saturday, Oregon took a sizable lead over Texas and several others involved with the SoCal standout, and ultimately secured his commitment. Even before that became public, sources within Texas indicated that they would remain in pursuit of Benjamin given the need to add another safety to the class, and despite his pledge, there's like no more viable blue-chip option for the Longhorns than Benjamin. It's worth noting that the 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back has visited Texas multiple times this year, and it wouldn't necessarily be a shock to see him on campus one more time. Make no mistake, it won't be easy to flip Benjamin. (TURBOFF)

Marietta (Ga.) Kell Top100 Tennessee LB commit Brayden Rouse
After offering in January, hosting Rouse for the first time in April, and for the second time in June, Texas made a spirited push for Rouse, but it wasn't enough to overcome longtime leader Tennessee for the nation's No. 4 linebacker prospect. But like a few other difference makers on this list, Rouse is a top tier prospect at a position of need for the Longhorns so you can expect Texas to stay in contact in the season. Though it might take a poor season from the Vols or potentially some shaking up from the coaching carousel, Texas would love to flip Rouse ahead of signing day and will continue trying until pen hits paper. Another linebacker name we thought about including was Izayia Williams, but since he's likely to miss his entire senior season, we're staying away for now. (SCRUGGS)

A few others
As previously mentioned, Texas has needs at a couple different needs in the remainder of this cycle, and maybe none more pressing than safety.

Mark Orphey extended an offer to three-star Louisville commit Jaydin Broadnax in May, and although Horns247 expects that he's being recruited as a cornerback, it's possible that his 6-foot-2.5, 190-pound frame could also make him a legitimate option at safety. After him, in-state names like Ridge Point's Jermaine Santana-Diaz, Pflugerville Hendrickson's Maddox Quiller, or even Westlake's Thomspon Bennett would make sense.

"I heard Julian Sayin would have committed to Texas were it not for Arch.  He wanted to come here so bad.

Finley's recruitment is not over. It is expected that the siren song to Austin and Texas' final offer will be enough to tip the scales in Texas' favor.

Kruel will be a Longhorn but will be made to understand that he's going to have to develop for a year or two but that Texas will pay him more for doing so for developing. Texas wants this just to spike the football in Oklahoma's face.

There is one currently committed Longhorn who is shaky not because he doesn't love Sark and wants to come here but is beginning to realize how big of a logjam Texas has at his position."

Interesting side note. Extensive research on men’s lives have shown that the 40’s is the second cockiest decade in a typical man’s life, behind the teens. It results from a high level of confidence built from success in relationships and career during their 20’s and 30’s.

The decade of the 50’s is when most men became more aware and philosophical about their life and the world around them. However, some men get stuck and fly through their 50’s not progressing, leading to higher levels of frustration, unhappiness, closed thinking,  and conflict in relationships.

We’ve got all types on Surly, I’m sure.
