Just to throw something out there for the sake of discussion - is recruiting HS QBs a waste of time in the current landscape? You run the risk of investing a lot of resources and time into a guy without knowing how he will perform when the lights come on.

Would it be better to go out every 1-2 years and get a lower-level P4 or G5 guy that has already shown he can play and try to build a monster team around him? A la Ohio State last year or Oregon & OU this year?

Joey Aguilar at Tennessee is another good example

That market will become saturated with buyers too. All of these theories on roster building will oscillate until there’s some normalization in the finances schools are willing to spend. Right now it rewards early adopters and high spenders, but im curious to see which smaller market teams can consistently contend by finding balance with developing and maintaining roster continuity.

So we were home team yesterday. I haven’t read a single article about recruits that were at the game, reactions, etc. In fact, there have been almost zero news/articles/reactions coming out of any of the home games this year. Were there no visitors at any of our recent home games?

Seems strange.

Recruits have been going. I think the posters here have been a bit disengaged this season

One thing I've seen people mentioning is the fact that outside of baker, Campbell and Banks the other takes are not highly ranked commits. Which makes the ft worth kids a huge get. I know flood was part of the deal for sark coming to Texas along with banks. Does anyone think he'll be let go at seasons in?

I don't know who sets the limits on offensive line takes. It might be just as big of a Sark and Banks issue as a Flood issue.

“seasons in” was a new one for me, gotta be honest.

“season’s end” would just be silly, right?

Texas new 2026 OT offer Micah Smith: The juice

The Texas Longhorns extended an offer to 4-star UCLA offensive tackle commit Micah Smith (Vero Beach, Fla./High) Sunday.

The 6-foot-5.25, 320-pound current UCLA verbal has seen his stock rise as a senior, despite missing some time with a minor injury. In fact, when I stopped by Vero Beach High last month, Smith was not practicing.

Having known Vero Beach High head coach Lenny Jankowski a long time, when he comments on a player I listen. And so do college coaches that have known him for a while.

There are several teams trying to get Smith on campus right now. Ohio State re-engaged recently, and Smith made an OV for the Minnesota game. The Buckeyes signed 4-star LB Tarvos Alford out of Vero Beach High in the 2025 cycle.

Along with Ohio State and Texas, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida State and South Carolina are trying to make big pushes.

Texas has spoken with Smith about an official visit. November 22 weekend for the Arkansas game would be most likely, but that may be dependent on Vero Beach's playoff run. VB is currently 7-0, and getting their QB back from injury in the next couple of weeks.

Gerry this morning:

Wednesday Recruiting: Dre Quinn update and more

The Texas staff continues to chip away at remaining targets the month of October, while being on the road an unable to host any prospects for weekend visits until November.

This morning, OTF brings the latest on a trio of prospects.

Dre Quinn ...
It's Ohio State vs. Texas with Tennessee in the mix for the Buford High 4-star+ EDGE. The 6-foot-3.5, 228-pounder and Texas staff members talk daily. The plan is for Quinn and family to visit for the Arkansas game November 22. Quinn had a very positive visit to Ohio State for the Minnesota game, and is likely to go back one more time for an OV in the coming weeks.

New OT offer Micah Smith ...
Kyle Flood and Micah Smith continue to try and iron out official visit details. Texas is working on the November 22 weekend, but Vero Beach High could very well still be playing in the playoffs. Texas knows they can't just be zeroed in on the singular weekend. While the 6-foot-5.5, 325-pounder remains committed to UCLA, Ohio State has become the team to beat after the October 4 official visit.

Texas and Corey Wells ...
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Texas commit with an 82-inch wingspan continues to have positive conversations with Kenny Baker and staff. Auburn isn't giving up, and Ole Miss remains in the mix too as expected, but both have questions to answer. Will Auburn make a coaching change? Will Lane Kiffin take the Florida job? Texas has stability. Texas staff members are also in contact contact with Wells' mom.

One more note ...
Texas and current Florida 4-star+ DL pledge Kendall Guervil (Fort Myers, Fla./High) continue to have positive conversations. A November 22 weekend visit for the Arkansas game is certainly possible.

Hmmm. I wonder if PK could figure out how to not drop him into coverage so he can get more of those sacks? Imagine Simmons, Hill, Ty Smith, and Spence rushing the passer how may sacks we could get per game? We landed 5 against those lurping tweakers.
