Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: The Night is Darkest Before Dawn

Technically the brightness of the night sky is a function of the phase of the moon (discounting light pollution and weather variations of course). Generally speaking though it’s equally dark throughout the night. It can be said factually that it’s coldest before the dawn because that’s the furthest time away from sunlight. Not sure that has the same ring to it.

But I like the motivational metaphor anyway.

Yeah. It really shows.

What? I thought this was a place to learn?

If this is a place to learn then man have we been failing. Slider2yBanana still can’t even breathe involuntarily, and just look at poor Helobious over there polishing his fake Amazon gold chain and speaking with the complete confidence of the truly imbecilic. And we’ve been at this for years. Nee decades.

I rarely go with boots and jeans to the fair. Too hot and too much walking, typically. I may have been in flip flops that day, but most likely tennis shoes. I may have just thought I could salvage everything by getting to the bathroom. But I’m usually pretty resourceful. Once had to use a corduroy bucket hat.

I think your holy ass underwear is the correct answer. Just wipe that ass and leave the underwear in the shrubs

Recruiting 2026 - When I Come Around

Quote

Oh, I heard you cryin' loud
All the way across town
You've been searching for that someone, and it's me out on the prowl
As you sit around feeling sorry for yourself

Well don't get lonely now
And dry your whinin' eyes
I'm just roaming for the moment, sleazin' my backyard, so don't get
So uptight, you've been thinking about ditching me

No time to search the world around
'Cause you know where I'll be found
When I come around

What should he do if it happens a second time on the same day? And please respond quickly. Asking for a friend, and I don’t know if my, uh, his cell reception will hold out much longer.

I’ve not been paying much attention to the On3 and rivals thing. Aren’t the Rivals ranking somehow now taking into account On3 stuff? I’m lost on all that.

On3 bought out Rivals.  So now the recruiting coverage is On3 wearing a Rivals skin-suit.  The non-recruiting college sports news is branded as On3

lol ok.  Bonus hilarity that Rivals rankings have been summarily dismissed for the past 20 years, but the instant they say they rank a guy 5*, y’all go full aggy.

The kid won’t be any better or worse no matter the ranking. If it helps fans be able to beat their chest over the final standings come Feb, all the better, but dude is a stud no matter how many stars.

I don’t understand the point you are trying to make. As per below, rivals and On3 merged. People aren’t all of the sudden elevating rivals because of a five star. It’s because the actual rivals service is on3. Do you not understand this? Or do you believe the same old rivals is still there?

It's coldest just after dawn.  The sunlight causes evaporation and thereby cools the air even more... Since we're being technical.

Just out of sheer curiosity, do the lambos they lease out to players come with speed limiters or anything?

Asking for players formerly committed to Georgia?

No, it sucks. It’s about as inconvenient a thing as any person can have to do, especially when caught without toilet paper. My first attempt when camping as a ten year old ended poorly. The shitting part went fine, I guess, but I failed to account for the part where I pissed down the back of my pants. And it was just an overnight trip out on our property, so I didn’t have backup pants. My dad thought it was a hilarious right of passage and refused to run home to get me some dry pants.

However, nothing will ever compare to my last adventure in the State Fairgrounds, an hour or two prior to the kickoff of 2019 Texas/OU, when I was forced to accept the fact that the bubbling in my gut was not going to wait for me to stand in any of the ridiculously long bathroom lines nearby.

Scared to death of the obvious consequences of shitting my pants in front of the most insufferable, inbred fan base known to man, I desperately sought refuge behind some bushes outside the Museum of Nature and Science, sans toilet paper, or even a napkin. I was willing to risk arrest to avoid the unthinkable.

Thankfully, the bushes were thick and tall, and I don’t skip leg day, so I was able to wall squat long enough to complete the first, and most important part of my mission: not shitting my pants. As anyone who’s had hungover bubble guts can tell you, though, phase two, or clean up, especially without toilet paper or a wet wipe, presented quite a challenge. I scrounged up whatever rocks and leaves I could find in my little make-shift fortress of solitude and did the best I could. Admittedly, my best was still not that great. The rocks were covered in dirt and the leaves were small and brittle. I really just exchanged one mess for another.

I eventually called it, “good enough,” and pulled up my pants, but I left my underwear sagging inside them a little, trying to keep that which the rocks and leaves couldn’t clean from touching any cotton. I was at least able to wait my turn in the bathroom line long enough to complete cleanup in there. I can’t remember if the underwear was salvageable or not. Seems like they were…🤔

Anyway, those of you who enjoy shitting in the wild can have it. I suspect few of you have experienced the duress that accompanied my forced participation in the practice, and I hope you never have the opportunity to relate.

This is fucking awesome. I guess maybe one more year that we may need 1-2 transfer DL then we looked stacked at the position after that.

I think our days of needing DL in the transfer portal are over. We took multiple guys with 2026 eligibility in the portal and are slaying it in recruiting now. Offensive tackle looks like the only real need in the portal going forward.

It’s July 15th and our biggest recruiting needs appear to be RB and filling in spots at positions where studs are already committed (OL, LB, EDGE, DB).

Pretty damn good position to be in for a staff that historically does some of their best work late in the cycle.

Oranbebloods declined to move over to On3/Rivals merger so they are going independent.

Because they know everyone on that staff would be shitcanned within 30 seconds of entering the lobby.

I hate to pick nits, but let’s not jinx anything just yet.

the night is not darkest before dawn

there are 3 phases of twilight and they appear in reverse order before sunrise

sunset -> civil twilight -> nautical twilight -> astronomical twilight -> night -> astronomical twilight -> nautical twilight ->  civil twilight ->sunrise

+++

Civil Twilight: Occurs when the sun is between 0 and 6 degrees below the horizon. During this phase, there's enough light for most outdoor activities without artificial light, and the brightest planets may be visible.

Nautical Twilight: Occurs when the sun is between 6 and 12 degrees below the horizon. The horizon is still visible, and sailors can use the stars for navigation.
Astronomical Twilight:

Occurs when the sun is between 12 and 18 degrees below the horizon. It's the darkest twilight phase, and faint stars become visible, making it suitable for astronomical observations.

These twilight phases are also reversed in the morning, with astronomical dawn being the first stage, followed by nautical and then civil.

+++

in addition, because of light scattering, in a pure black sky, the gegenschein is *usually* brighter astronomical twilight preceding sunrise, as opposed to after sunset:

Honestly, I think the current title is even more appropriate now than during the tantrums. It appears we have broken the bagmen. I say stick with it.

Speaking of “sooner,” if we aren’t able to flip Lee, I’d be cool stealing that 4* OT from Colorado who just committed to OU. Mostly just to stunt.
