They are great, but not ideal for radio. One of them (or both, but $), as color, but Craig needs to be PBP.

Yeah, that shouldn’t even be a question. Craig and Keith in both baseball and football was always my favorite partnership.

Can’t lose Swindell. He’s incredible with the amount of knowledge he has and his understanding of baseball strategy.

There's still going to be a radio crew and a tv crew presumably.  I really like Keith and Greg on tv, even more so after they freed them of Galindo.  Craig is great on the radio.  It would be nice if they found him a good permanent color guy.

Please keep Keith...by far the greatest R L Turner High School/UT athlete ever

I might have misunderstood what was being unthread. It would make sense for there to still be separate TV and radio crews. I agree, it would be great to have a real deal color man sitting next to Craig.

This is the kind of team that can rise up and surprise here and there.  They have done and will continue to do so, but that's as far as it goes.

There will be nothing added to the trophy case at the end of this team's season.  Nada.

Unless there's some hardware for getting DP run out on a rail, that is.  Because that could happen.

Boehm vs Tolle for pitcher of the year will be interesting, especially if TCU stays in position to miss Arlington.

Tolle will probably win that award going away, regardless of how TCU finishes. OSU has a couple of starters who will also be in the discussion (Garcia and Holiday). Boehm probably won't have the pure numbers to contend with those guys but he could win reliever of the year (I think that is an award they do).

If not for the Washington blowup he’d probably have an era in the 1s and I’d argue harder for him. Starters will always get the edge for that award, rightfully so.

Other teams have an ace. We don't.

Yup.  1000% this.

Yeah, it's not that weird.  It's also why we won't be long for the postseason.  Hard to win a regional after dropping game 1.

It's pretty f'n weird for The University of Texas Baseball Program to not have one legit ace.

About as weird as it gets imo.

Question, with current NIL, the 11.whatever scholarships that are available are obviously a thing of the past.

So are all of the Texas players playing without paying tuition now? And also, with baseball, are most teams in the sec and acc pretty much doing this? As in all players on “scholarship “

Bump this to the top for someone with knowledge to answer.   @closetojumping may choose to opine on NIL goals at Texas.

Saw the below link online.  Supposedly from NCAA,  though looks somewhat suspect.

I don’t know this answer. What I do know is that Pierce hasn’t handled NIL the way others have, spreading things across the roster. So maybe everyone is good to go, but it’s proving to be an idiotic approach compared to the programs applying NIL pressure to key recruits and transfers.

It is what it is but part of me wonders if we switched LBJ and Boehm roles what would happen.

LOL the first place team in the Big 12 (by 3 games) isn't ranked but 2 of the 3 second place teams are sitting at 18 and 21

We would have a lot more heartburn in the 8th and 9th innings.

I like Boehm in his current role. Allows him to pitch multiple times in a series, if needed.

What do we think the realistic ceiling is for Max Grubbs? Is he a weekend guy in the SEC? He doesn't miss a ton of bats, but he gets a lot of groundballs and has looked pretty good this year for a true sophomore who we didn't expect to be a weekend starter heading into the year.

For sure.  I'm not suggesting we change really.  Johnson's 5.61 ERA is just mindnumbingly bad.

was also trying to think how to work a regional if you are the 2(or 3) seed.  I could see starting Boehm second game if we won the first.  roll the dice with your best pitcher against the #1

All bets are off in the postseason. You definitely do stuff you wouldn't do in a normal weekend series. You shrink your circle of trust to about 2-3 starters and 2-3 relievers and ride those guys hard. You will bring your closer in during the 4th inning after he threw 25 pitches the day before if the game calls for it.

Maybe that ends up helping us because we will be using every last drop from Duplantier and Boehm instead of bringing in David Shaw in a 2 run game because Boehm threw the night before.

I think he's a realistic Sunday guy - maybe Saturday with another off season. If he's still the Friday guy or even the clear cut Saturday starter next season, Pierce/the new head coach managed the roster poorly.

The 3:1 SO:BB ratio is pretty damn nice. Don't love the OBA, hopefully it improves next year.  Looks like his WHIP is 1.34, which also needs serious improvement. Would love for him to take a solid step forward next year.

That’s in Virginias team ERA range.  They’re ranked #10 in the polls.

The team ERA of 5.61 would be 115th out of 295 teams.  There are 10 teams with ERAs at or below 4.00.  None below 3.00.

Pretty sure that ERA is in the vicinity of A&Ms 3rd starter two years ago.  May be where LSUs guy (not Skenes) last year was before his final CWS appearance last year.  You’re likely to see starting pitchers in the CWS pretty close to that.

The problem is that he hasn’t been 5.61 good lately.   I’d bet Hurley gets another chance soon.

Agreed. Will be interesting to see what ends up happening with him and Whitehead, both of whom have held their own this year and compete well but I worry about against better lineups.

Obviously, starting to pitch in the portal is a bloodbath. I'm hopeful we get this lefty from San Jac to campus that we've had committed since the fall. Been up to 96 this year and has 100 strikeouts in 56 innings. Would be an immediate weekend guy. https://www.njcaa.org/sports/bsb/2023-24/div1/players/brandonarvidsonpt3d?view=profile
