I enjoy most shows that don't have a happy ending. As such I was satisfied with this one.
Main complaint is that Ruth should have immediately run to the woods as soon as she saw the SUV.  Then they could have had Camila waiting for her there.

The writers and runners would say this is a happy ending. Wendy saved her family. They won. Wendy and Marty get to be a power couple. The problem is it wasn’t a satisfying ending.

I thought it would have been interesting for the detective to "win" in the final scene.  Think about it.  The Byrds scammed and avoided being taken out by cartels, the FBI, a large, local heroin org, etc...  They finally solve all their problems, but lose out to some weak-ass PI at the end.

I did always enjoy the way the show deployed music. Even though it was a pointless scene, the way they used “Bring It on Home” for the crash was great. And “New King of the Mountain” by Romany Rye at the end of season 3 was great too.

John Prine’s Angel from Montgomery really worked well too. What a fucking great song.

finished last night. pretty meh. i couldn't even feel bad about Ruth as she just kept doing stupid, dangerous things...like deep down she had a death wish.

i mean i totally forgot she started the show by killing her uncles lol.

so would her controlling interest in the casino now go to Three, as the only surviving family? Rachel was just the manager, she didn't have any money to invest, and it wouldn't just automatically revert to the other shareholders (Byrds) right?

the writers got pretty lazy at the end, lots of random shit that had no bearing on anything (Sam, car crash, priest that just kept popping up lol)...but one thing i thought they did well was slowly expose grandpa for the obvious POS he was. felt like we finally got a little understanding of how Wendy ended up the way she is...apple didn't fall far from the tree.

but there's a lot worse on TV i guess.

At the risk of stating the obvious, I am confident that the intricacies of Missouri probate law never even crossed the minds of the writers.

It’s Mizzou. Were there another season when Wendy somehow remembered that three existed, she would have Charlotte marry him then murderdeathkill him. After all it’s Missouri. I think 11is age of consent.

Finished last night, didn't hate it, but didn't love it. The show was getting stupider by the season so I didn't expect them to fix all the problems with it by the last episode. I agree that as a whole, it was very unsatisfying, but I might be in the minority in being satisfied that at least all the idiots that took the "Fuck the Cartel" stance found out after fucking around. Them Mizzous really thought their trailer park operations made them mob bosses, except they had no mob.

my mom and i like to watch masterchef on hulu, and we recently started season 1 of masterchef junior. which first aired in 2013. every time a contestant goes home, we google them to see what's become of them. just now a little 12 year old girl named sofia was sent home in 7th place. i headed to google to see if she had become a chef, only to find out that she's gone pro in something other than cooking:

skimming (not reading) the last 2 pages of criticism makes me wonder what people were expecting.  to me, this played out exactly as the past few seasons have - predictable at times, over-the-top, unrealistic, and deeply unsatisfying.  i've felt this way since season 2 and i thought i was in the majority on that.  pretty sure i still am.

it seemed they were skidding pretty hard into "family is all that matters" or "do whatever we can do to keep the [immediate] family together" in p2 of the final season, so yes, i thought the ending was predictable.  up until the very end with jonah, which i didn't give a second thought because who gives a shit.

i'm all for having themes and directional story goals but i felt with the roller coaster byrde family dynamic (that we've seen over the years) that their target, which was "achieved", wasn't really true to the characters.  bateman especially veered, which is frustrating, because wendy is such a fucking beating.  if he told miami chick he would watch over tuck, then he would've.  that's his character.  he was forced into this life, which became easier because wendy embraced it.

all the circular nonsense involving the politicians and the foundation was all to serve wendy and to what end i'll never know or care to know.  we're really supposed to think the byrdes are the new political kingmakers in the midwest/rust belt?  ok.

if they really wanted to keep the story trajectory and stay true to the characters, they should've had everything heading the way it was, for the sake of misdirection.  then once clare tells mama cartel about her son (which should've been planned), they turn the tables on her.  she has ruth at gunpoint, and marty blows her head off from behind.  he's always looked after ruth and considered her part of the family (which isn't saying that much).

then, when it's wendy's turn to speak, she's unable to find him, and instead sees a text or something.  she does whatever she needs to do at the benefit, and marty and ruth dispose of the body.  it's not that big of a twist but at least it's consistent.  then marty heads back to his family and they go to chicago to live a regular life, until the walls inevitably start to cave in, which i don't care about because the tv show is over.

that's how it started, that's how it shoud've finished.  they leave the ozarks roughly how they found it, and they'll be looking over their shoulders for fucking ever.

also the car flip from the premiere to finale was super fucking stupid and pointless and offends me as a writer and a television viewer.

The car crash seems like one of the most stupid events in TV history not only because it was the unoriginal car crash trope but also because there was zero payoff.

Ozark should be classified as fantasy-science fiction: this unremarkable family from Chicago outwits and defeats the cartels, the FBI, the mafia, the local criminal gang(s), dozens of powerful politicians ...

All the shit with the foundation, politicians , John boy, etc was a distraction. I would have preferred the conflict be between Cartel, KC mob, Darlene hillbillies, Langmores, and Byrdes trying to maneuver through with maybe FBI, Homeland, DEA all at war with each other in managing it.

Very underutilized aspect of this show - especially when the son took over.

GoT started going downhill in S5, and seasons 6 and 7 were really up and down featuring some of both the best and worst episodes of the series. then S8 came, and pretty much all of it was a total letdown from the opening scene, but my god, that final episode- it's like the 2006 Rose Bowl of godawful series finales. i truly cannot fathom it ever being "topped", so to speak. the universal hatred for that ending is both deserved and unparalleled. amazingly bad finale.

We never listen.

Wendy is all about gaining political power.  She had previous career in politics derailed when she became pregnant back in the day and ended up losing that baby in a car accident.  This was around the time Marty started laundering money.  That accident sort of defined the point at where Marty started doing dirty stuff and their relationship grew apart.  The car accident at the end of the show is the point where the family is now back together and pretty much all-in with living that type of life.

Wow the writing on the ending was either really bad or the writers thought they had a season 5 to work with. So many story lines just made no sense. And the car wreck meaning nothing?

I took the crash to show that no matter the family divide and issues... when the fate of Wendy was unknown in the van, Marty and the kids showed they did actually care about her and their family. It was the moment that said "we might not like how we got here but we're in it together as a family".

Cartel kills Charlotte and makes Wendy watch. Cartel kills Wendy and makes Marty and Jonah watch. Cartel takes Marty and Jonah to Mexico, “You work for us now or we kill one of you in front of the other, then kill the other.” Marty reaps what he sows. Audience gets satisfaction with Wendy murder. Fin.

It seemed like a lot of narrative gymnastics just to shoehorn in stolen elections conspiracy theories. Wendy becoming George Soros is about as plausible as the other dumb plot lines. Hell, If they'd wrapped shooting a few years later they'd have Marty elected as president of Ukraine defeating Putin.

This. That’s why I’m not as big of a hater on GOT final season as some. Hate endings where everyone’s happy and got what they wanted

That’s the weird thing. The writers wrote this as their happy ending with the Byrdes untouched like the Brady Bunch. They didn’t pay; everyone in their sphere did.

I guess I’m meaning the crowd doesn’t get their way, not the actual characters in the show. I wanted Wendy to die as much as everyone else, but I’m not gonna shit all over the show cause it didn’t go down how I though it should. Like people are mad Ruth died? You can’t kill the leader of the cartel (at the time) and get away with it

Yeah, pretty much. Could have made it worthwhile had the family pick up a hitchhiker named Corby Davidson. And the hitchhiker was killed in the accident.

Considering how low the bar had been set for me the ending was just meh like most of the entire series. I don’t think we were really supposed to like any of the characters. We liked Ruth because we like the actress, the character was still a mean hillbilly and dumb as shit. Like the Forest Gump of rural lake trash, falling into money and power without even trying. I didn’t feel bad when she got plugged, I was actually relieved that it was finally almost over. It’s was a show without any real protagonists, didn’t really matter at that point who lived or died in the end, imo.

I don’t have the time or interest to go through all the problems, but on the issue of protagonists, I sense the only one (besides Ruth) that even came close was Wyatt, and they went and fucked him up too. A smart kid who they seemed to give a moral compass to at first, you feel bad for his circumstance, and while you hate that he won’t just leave and put his intellect to use, you sort of get his background and that he just doesn’t have it in him, okay that’s some interesting characteristics. Then he goes off and starts banging a hideous old cunt who is as evil as any character on the show and raises a kidnapped child with her, so long moral compass. Seeing him and Darlene get plugged was by far the most satisfying part of the season, and it wasn’t close.

I made peace with the unrealistic stuff a few seasons ago, but goddamned they just kept getting dumber and dumber. Becoming political kingmakers from a shack in the redneck ozarks using the smallest gambling boat ever built. Okay, lol. I watched to see how it ended because it hooked me early on, I almost refused to watch it, only binged because I’m getting over Covid. If there was another season I’d be out. A merciful end.

Yep. I really have no problem with anyone that died, I just didn’t like the Byrdes coming out unscathed. They call it a happy ending.

I think it is rooted in the hopes they can spin another season or two elsewhere or a new series with Marty and Wendy in their new role as modern Kennedys.

Finished it last night.

Maybe I missed something, but why was Nelson onto Ruth (and Rachel) before knowing she killed Javi?

I was ok with the ending, although what was said above about Ruth is true, it would've been a nice redemption story for her to go legit after getting her record expunged and telling Marty to beat it.  But yeah, Cartels gonna cartel.

Oh well...onto the next one.

Well it looks like that ending is because the money folks and Bateman and Linney are thinking about a new series back in Chicago with the Byrdes as the new Kennedys. Nothing definite

I’m season 4 episode 6ish:

wendy is still a bitch.  I’d have the sex though

ruths reaction to Wyatt’s death while warranted was still cringey

omars reaction to javi’s death seems to be deceptive. I assume he accepts extradition?

fuck dem kids especially Noah.  Fucking ingrate

i like Marty.  Maybe it’s cuz he’s relatable to us middle aged guys

maya really fucked shit up

was not a fan of what they did to Ruth.  Better ending is the byrdes call that number that Omar gave them and it turns out that camilas bodyguard was the hit man.  So when Ruth is shot, it’s actually camila being shot by the hitman.  Not a camila fan

Just finished it. Major plot hole. Why not just off Mel the druggie private investigator? Then no testifying for the kids, no risk of finding out the truth about Ben, etc. They killed enough people throughout the series. Could've had Nelson do it. They killed an fbi agent, why not a disgraced PI?

Jonah makes a 180 from conscientious kid to murderer for the mother he hates? OK...

Finally got around to watching the 2nd half of the final season and finishing this.

I thought for sure Three was going to shoot Camila from somewhere when she confronted Ruth.

Glad Ruth got blasted, hated her more than Wendy somehow (yes I know I am in the minority on this one)

fun series, not earth shattering, but worth the watch since it is only 4 seasons and doesn't draw out for like 10 season or some shit
