I'm not trying to throw shots at Quinn but my god we spent way too much time talking about NFL draft prospects, "will he declare after this season", "will he come back", etc on a guy who ended up being a 7th round pick. I'm doing my best but man the 2026 draft Arch Manning talk is fucking insufferable and I keep getting push notifications about it.

I think I've spotted your problem.

He can have a bad game and we still contend for a championship. I was not and am not a QE hater but he had bad games and Texas made the semis. Arch is likely to have an even better defense to support him. All he really needs to win it all is a smidge more luck than QE (let’s just say less TOs at the QB and RB position / or hell no brain lapses on screens by the D before halftime) and he’s in the NC game.

Arch will have a much better RB situation to start the year, likely equal or at least similar WRs, slight downgrade on OL and TE, and Sark will have a much bigger plays selection given Arch's scrambling and long ball. The defense will be likely at least equal and very possibly better.

We're doomed.

Everything I'm hearing (and I don't pay $9.95) is that we may be upgrading over Helm at TE.

I agree. And with all the talk about the OL their run blocking was atrocious at times, pass pro fell a part at times and QB mobility also contributed. I think Arch will makes those better, sum of the parts sort of thing.

I do think he will have some timing issues in the pocket I think the game hasn’t fully slowed down for him yet, I think he will struggle with complex reads at times but FUCK what college QB doesn’t? As long as those aren’t at the absolute wrong time in the wrong game we will be fine.

Agreed, but until confirmed hard to say it's equal or better than what Helm brought to the table.

It's a safe bet we'll be downgrading at the "hurdle the defensive back" move.

Oh big time QB mobility, a deeper RB stable and way better long ball threat absolutely alters things dramatically.

It's only logical to conclude that there might be pocket issues with the youth at OL early. Which is why @Florida concerns me more than any game prior to Georgia.

He’ll be a good qb with bad games here and there like the rest of college QBs. But please cut down on turnovers from the qb position from last year and we’re golden. Without random tip interceptions keeping teams in it we would have had a few more blowouts last year.

his mobility alone would have eliminated the Ohio State sack, fumble, TD .... the A&M slide fumble, several others and several self sacks.

if those fixes out number the blind side fuck ups, the poor reaction against top defenses with great coverages, and whatever other mistakes then we will be fine at the QB spot.

then all we are left with is RB fumbles and Sark second half squats.

I feel like it’s the same as last year with Quinn. We don’t need him to be Vince young with our talent. Be cool if he was tho.

pretty much.

I think his three big weaknesses are going to be:

1. miss reads some coverages with some bonehead soph starter type mistakes - we're fine as long as it's not wrong place wrong time.

2. pocket timing - run too early, not see an open guy bc of pressure, blind side hits because his clock is too slow.

3. throws too deep too often - for all the QE hate on the check down, we have such amazing athletes, the check down often is what keeps the drive going or puts you in manageable 3rd down spots. QE was great at that, maybe too great at times to the point that teams keyed on it, but I have  feeling Arch will throw deep when the better decision was to check down.

I think all of those can be overcome with less QB/RB turnovers, his mobility and deep threat which will open running lanes, and a better D than last year.

Aside from TO's, fewer stalled drives. Because there was a shit ton of them last season and shitty punting to go along with them.

Our defense has better depth and breadth of talent, but have it to prove in terms of resiliency. But I believe the culture is there to maintain that standard. While it's true the defense had some breakdowns at times, they seemed to toe the line far more often than not when the offense was hanging them out to dry. Kept us in games.

That's all very interesting, but I think you're using the wrong sample. Arch isn't just any first year QB on just any team. Maybe change your prompt to include Arch's recruiting rating, 2 years of experience as a backup, having a likely top 10 defense, a team that made the playoffs/conference championship game the previous year, etc.

These are all great points. I certainly don't think Texas will perform at the level of the average team with a new starting QB with 4 new o-line starters. However, the data should guide people to realize that we likely won't go undefeated, and even making the playoffs under these circumstances is less likely than most want to admit.

You have to look at the competition also. Texas is the SEC favorite at +270. The other SEC contenders are considered to be Georgia (+330), Bama (+380), and LSU (+700). Georgia and Bama are breaking in inexperienced players. LSU is only one of the top 4 teams that has an experienced QB and they are not on the schedule. The other big game Texas has is OSU, who is breaking in a new QB.

Speaking of, if you take out the MSST and ULM games Arch started, will Owens/Caldwell get more cumulative minutes/appearances/drives than Arch got in 2024?  We had trouble putting away bad opponents at times and that kept Arch from coming on during blowouts

Undefeated is unlikely due to the number of games.  But playoff elimination starts at 3 SEC losses.  Two SEC losses and a loss at OSU might do it.  We will likely be a top, if not top, 3 loss team in playoff consideration.

Alabama, UGa have new QBs.  As do OSU, Oregon.  Some of those are rebuilding their Olines.  While we may having 4 new starters, our 3 potential interior guys have worked for 4 years with each other.

The odds suggest he will. It isn't a certainty, but it is more likely than not.

I like playing around with ChatGPT. For all of its faults, it does have an enormous amount of data on things like this. Here is what it says:

Statistical Breakdown

1. First-Year Starting QBs Tend to Hurt Team Performance

  • On average, teams with a brand-new starting quarterback see their winning percentage drop by about 3.4%, while also underperforming point-spread expectations (covering just 49%) The Score.

2. Adding Four or More New Offensive Starters Compounds the Issue

  • Teams with a new QB and up to four new offensive starters have historically struggled badly:

    • Only 20 out of 82 such teams saw improvement.

    • The average decline was 22% in winning percentage, coupled with a 4% drop in ATS (Against The Spread).

    • Their combined ATS was just 44.7%, significantly below average The Score.

3. Contrast: Teams with Continuity

  • Teams with a returning starting quarterback and at least nine other offensive returning starters tend to improve by about 8% in winning percentage, with better ATS performance (~52.6%) The Score.

  • Likewise, stable setups — returning QB, same OC, and most offensive starters — yield even stronger benefits The Score.

Why the Combination of Inexperience & Disruption Is Risky

  • Offensive line experience is a key predictor of success, particularly in pass protection:

    • One study showed that offensive line experience explained 5–10% of the variation in yards per carry Mgoblog.

    • Experienced, cohesive lines also significantly reduce sack rates, giving the QB more time and increasing offensive efficiency Mgoblog.

  • In real-game examples, newly assembled lines with poor cohesion often struggle with fundamentals:

    • South Carolina’s line with three new starters and a center in a new position managed just 5.2 yards per play, and had under 30% rushing success – a clear sign of line dysfunction affecting the entire offense On3.

don’t outsource your opinions to an algorithm

Let’s be honest: Texas A&M is not widely recognized as the “greatest college football dynasty of all time” by traditional metrics. Programs like Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and USC typically hold that title based on national championships, Heisman winners, and AP poll history.

But — if we’re talking facts, logic, and the undeniable greatness of Texas A&M — here’s a real case to debunk the “little brother” myth and make a compelling, Aggie-tilted argument for dynasty-level status. Call it Aggie Logic 101:

🧠 LOGICAL ARGUMENT: Why Texas A&M is NOT “Little Brother”

1.

Founding and Military Roots

  • Texas A&M (1876) was founded before UT-Austin (1883).
  • It is the first public institution of higher learning in Texas.
  • The Corps of Cadets and military legacy have shaped global leaders and heroes — not just athletes. UT doesn’t have that.
  • Aggies fight wars, not just football games. That’s not little brother behavior.

2.

Big Boy Moves: Conference Realignment

  • While others clung to fading Big 12 traditions, A&M boldly joined the SEC in 2012, the premier football conference.
  • This was a power move — choosing growth, exposure, and competition over nostalgia.
  • UT followed a decade later, not leading but copying A&M’s vision. Who’s little brother now?

3.

Facilities and Fanbase

  • Kyle Field is the largest stadium in Texas and top 5 in the nation (over 102,000 seats).
  • A&M has some of the most passionate, loyal fans in the country. The 12th Man is a real, trademarked symbol of readiness and unity.
  • UT has fans. A&M has a movement.

4.

Money Talks

  • A&M has often ranked #1 in athletic department revenue, beating out UT and even Alabama.
  • They dominate in donor support — e.g., the 2022 recruiting class was backed by a financial and NIL infrastructure that made national headlines.
  • A&M’s $20+ billion endowment (including system schools) shows real financial clout.

🏈 FOOTBALL CASE: Why Texas A&M Can Claim “Dynasty DNA”

1.

2022 Recruiting Class = Greatest Ever

  • According to 247Sports, A&M’s 2022 recruiting class is the highest-rated in history. No other school has matched that level of talent on paper.
  • That’s dynasty material — whether the results fully panned out yet or not.

2.

NFL Pipeline

  • Texas A&M regularly produces elite NFL talent: Von Miller, Myles Garrett, Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, Ryan Tannehill, and others.
  • They’re a talent factory, not just a one-hit-wonder school.

3.

National Championships (Claimed)

  • A&M claims 3 national titles: 1919, 1927 (both retroactive selectors), and 1939 (AP-era, official).
  • For context: Alabama didn’t win its first AP national title until 1941. So technically, A&M was elite first.

🔥 CULTURAL DOMINANCE

  • Midnight Yell Practice is unlike anything in college football. It’s not a gimmick — it’s a tradition born of military readiness and community.
  • The 12th Man tradition inspired even the Seattle Seahawks, who had to license the phrase from A&M.
  • A&M is a school of tradition, unity, and identity — not marketing fads.

🤝 THE FINAL TAKE: Dynasty in Spirit, Culture, and Grit

While A&M doesn’t have 15 national titles like Alabama, they have something no other school does:

  • A fanbase willing to suffer, believe, and show up regardless.
  • A unified identity rooted in service, not just hype.
  • The courage to make bold moves and the resources to eventually dominate.

Texas A&M isn’t the little brother.

They’re the sleeping giant — built for something bigger than football, but always ready to make history when the time comes.

Want this written as a speech for Yell Practice or printed on a shirt? Just say the word.

I expect him to have a bad game or two at some point. Everyone does. But the chances that he'll struggle bigtime are low imo.

I expect his floor to be 23 Quinn and his ceiling to be higher than 24 Quinn

Running those stats against Bama’s Saban era would be interesting.

How does this metric account for transfers that were starters for their previous schools and the ability to use the portal for a known weakness instead of waiting on your recruit(s) to develop?

Not all QBs starting for the first time are equal. Mike Leach and Bob Stoops rolled out new starters without skipping a beat year after year for what seemed like forever. USC had good streak in the 2000s. It's not all that unusual for 3rd or 4th year guys to play well when they finally get to start. Arch is in year 3 of the same system with a lot of talent around him. I suspect he'll have a lot more highs than lows. The OL is a bigger question mark. Fortunately, this isn't like Strong or Herman teams where young guys were playing before they were ready. Or flat out weren't very good. Even if they knew their assignment, it wasn't a given they could execute it. That's not an issue this year. They are all physically ready. It's just a matter of whether they can play well as a group.
