“If your quarry goes to ground, leave no ground to go to.”

-The Operative

I can only imagine that the Hamas fighters weren’t as as precisely located as the bedroom of an Iranian military leader. They’re in this or under this building is likely the best targeting information they had in a much more fluid situation.

Hamas’ habit of placing their infrastructure and bases under civilian sites and hospitals makes rooting them out problematic.

Thats not excusing the destruction of whole city blocks, but perhaps the reasoning behind their choice of munitions and targeting.

+rep for the quote.

I do note, that the operative worked for a tyrannical, authoritarian regime that experimented on its own citizens.

The fact that Iran didn’t coordinate their drones and missiles to overwhelm the Iron Dome tells us a lot.

I'm not sure how you reached that conclusion. It appears they successfully hit multiple targets in Israel. That suggests the defenses were in fact overwhelmed.

It did some shit.

I don’t think some posters on here realize or understand that Israel attacking Iran with American support is going to lead to significant future attacks on Americans. We are in the early stages of what’s going to become likely a multiyear shitshow imo.

I'm sure an operational nuclear weapons program would have ended well for us. Pick your fucking poison.

5-7 got through, which is pretty standard for the Iron Dome. They did not overwhelm it.

And 55% of Americans if not more are too dumb to understand that, and will remain too dumb even as it's happening. Foreigner wants your cookie, and all that.

You mean like the time before when Israel attacked Iran?  Or the time before that?  Or the time before that? ....

Iran is going to Iran, but now with a change in several leaders and a loss of being able to become a nuclear power.  Same as it ever was.

Well, there wouldn’t have needed to be a choice if not for a previous disastrous decision to break the previous agreement.

Just pointing out that I’ve seen a few posts about how Iran, the Palestinians, etc have already lost and they need to realize that. Bullshit. That is a very naïve view. It’s exactly why there has been terrorism for decades. It’s never “over” when you are fucking with other people.

Not that I'm in favor of Iran having one, but plenty of other countries (including crazy ones like North Korea) do and we've muddled our way through. Nuclear weapons are largely unusable by state actors. My primary concern with nuclear proliferation is rogue elements getting hold of them.

I honestly don't know what you even mean. That's literally the definition of overwhelming it. If you mean the attack wasn't so massive that the entire city burned down, sure, it wasn't overwhelmed to that degree. But a saturation attack resulted in missiles getting past Israel's defenses, including to what appear to be some important military facilities.

So far I've seen a couple experts who say that at most these bombs will set Iran's nuclear program back by a few months at most and they'll retain the facilities and expertise to develop nuclear weapons. If their nuclear program is not permanently destroyed or set back several years at minimum this op will be a failure.

The Iron Dome isn’t for ballistic missiles. Which is what apparently got through. It appears Iran used a mix of drones and missiles for this.

The point I was making was that they sent drones some hours earlier instead of a coordinated attack with their missiles. Either they lack the capability or more likely they have no interest upping the ante.

Correct. That is David's Sling and Arrow. I generally assume that when folks say "Iron Dome" they are just referring to the Israel's air defense systems generally and not specifically the Iron Dome system.

I just took my Italy trip and my wife got back from another. I do not intend to travel abroad for a while because of this. I’d like to think they cannot touch us in our own country but know that’s foolhardy thinking.

I don’t think Iran can send operatives over here. I worry about Muslim extremists, though Lax makes a good point about Iran not being allied with much of the rest of the traditional terrorist hotbed centers. We need to continue to be behind the scenes, and our president needs to stop tweeting about helping them out with weapons.

I understand. They have all kinds of systems, it just gets a little wordy and I find Iron Dome is a solid catch all.

You send the drones hours earlier because they take longer to get to the target. And these systems take time to reload, so even if attacks don't arrive simultaneously, they can still be part of a coordinated effort to degrade defenses. Again, missiles got through to important targets. And they did so because Iran sent a large scale attack. I think you're jumping to conclusions incorrectly and prematurely.

It wasn’t a large scales attack and it didn’t hit important targets. It was actually smaller than usual.

The salvo they launched was quite a bit smaller than what they did earlier. Are they conserving missiles? Are their launch capabilities much degraded? Mixture of both? We likely won’t know from media alone.

They only have 1000ish ballistic missiles capable of reaching Israel. 850 now, and that’s not factoring losses to stored munitions and missiles on launchers to Israeli air strikes.

They’re probably not far from bumping up against whatever they consider to be an adequate strategic reserve.

We literally have video of a missile landing on top of a defense complex with nearby interceptors firing. That's an important target. I doubt Israeli security is significantly compromised because of the hit, but you don't get to just ignore it.

I’m pleasantly surprised that the attack seemed rather subdued. I’ll take good news where I can.

This was my point. After the beating Iran just took, I’m surprised there wasn’t more of a retaliation. Very ho-hum.

The pagers tended to be in a pocket at crotch level so there’ll be very limited goat ravaging for some time to come.

Perfection is impossibly expensive, even over a relatively tiny country like Israel. But I’m sure our Golden Showers Dome will be worth the cost.

Iran claiming they shot down a couple Israeli f35s. Nothing confirmed. Some reports suggest an American Israeli pilot captured.

That's unlikely. Israel used a large number of 4th generation aircraft loaded out with close range strike weapons. If anything got shot down, it is significantly more likely to be one of those.

Israel officials denying. The pictures floating around online are clearly photoshop/ai fakes.
