Drunk Racing would get my vote for the next sport that needs to be in the Olympics. There is nothing more fun, than watching idiots outside a bar race. At minimum it should be part of the X games

There is one more olympics I want to see other than drunk racing and that's fat person olympics.  Must have like a bmi over 40 and most of that be fat and not like NFL Edge that's shredded and in great physical shape. Nope, I just want to see the best of the best fat people doing olympic events.  I think it would be awesome.

I'd rather think about drunk racing and fat people olympics than this game.  Some asshole owes us a mudhole post to try to calm my nerves.

Per FCB:

-Maalik Murphy did not practice Tuesday (injury). Returned Wednesday.

-Sanders tweaked his ankle early in the week and Christian Jones did not finish a practice

-Burke had a knee scope last week and has an outside shot to play Saturday but should be full go by TCU

-Ewers has an outside shot to be back next week but Iowa State might be more realistic

-Catalon is still at least a week away from even being cleared to practice

Yay!

Under Sark, we have run for 209 yards (2021) and 269 yards (2022).  So 100% he will rely on MM's passing for this game.

Of course he will have to pass at times, but Texas should be aiming for another 200+ yards on the ground with Brooks and Baxter and not having to rely on MM throwing the ball. If KSU manages to completely stop the run, which they haven't really done against Sark the past 2 years, the game is probably already over before it started.

I think he's got a great bit going. I laugh almost every time I see one of his unemotional downer troll posts. Just drops it in, and moves on. Then we all react, but he's long gone.  It's predictable, but comical and entertaining. I picture him saying to himself "I had to get that off my chest" and then goes back to reading employee complaints at his HR desk for the rest of the day.

FCB asked Sark about injuries in the PC today and you could clearly see Sark is onto him. Gave very abbreviated and short answers about additions to the list and when FCB asked about Burke.

I did a beer mile several years ago somewhere near Circle C park.  I believe MGD was the beer of choice that the organizer provided.  Drink a tallboy, run 1/4 mile. Repeat three more times and then crush a final tallboy once done running. I recall I finished in the neighborhood of 19 minutes and had one helluva buzz.  Fortunately the organizer required a designated driver for all participants.  Would not do again.

I ran in the beer mile world championships a few years back. We made up our own version where you have to drink an 8 ounce beer every 10th of a mile. if you “evacuate“ you’re disqualified. I’ve run sprints to ultras, and that is one of the hardest races I’ve ever run. Your brain feels like a piano wire after about a half mile. Record is just under nine minutes. It’s also the craziest buzzes you will ever get. Your brain just gets flooded out.

I'm taking 3 of my little kids with me this weekend. Tomorrow night we're going to Matt's El Rancho. After the game on Saturday, I'm taking them out to Salt Lick for the evening. Sunday morning, we're going to grab some Bill Miller breakfast tacos and Starbuck's coffee and pumpkin spiced lattes and then heading home.

I'll be posting numerous photos and reviews on this thread of each experience, in an effort to help folks like you that might not have enough background on all of the culinary marvels that greater Austin has to offer for the out-of-towners.

Your kids are going to hate the wait at the Salt Lick.  I'd hit up the Chilis on 45th and Lamar instead.  The ribs are better anyway.

Unless Sark goes heavy on running plays, which I don’t think he will do, it’s going to be a very long day.

Why? Sark went heavy run last year vs both ISU and KSU.. In both games Texas ran the ball at least 40 times. That is his answer to the 3 high. KSU has 3 DL and 2 of them weigh 245 pounds. I am going to bet Texas runs a lot of the Big 12 formation with Agbo. If KSU starts crashing down their Safeties, then Sark will throw deep. This year Texas has Mitchell and Worthy. Unlike TCU last year, KSU doesn’t have 2 NFL CBs.

K-State will sell out on pressuring MM betting he will throw incompletions or INTs.  He’s the weakest link and they will bring up extra defenders to rush just before snaps. Yes, Sark will throw deep but I don’t think MM is ready yet. That’s why I got K-State winning in the prediction thread.

You don’t have to be very “ready” when coverage has to be declared and you’re throwing to one on one matchups.

That is making things as simple as possible for young QB.

He reads blitz and know he has man or single high coverage that means the ball is coming out on the 1st/pre-snap and it’s going to worthy, Sanders, Mitchell in single coverage.

IT team update. Seems like Chip's injury stuff yesterday may have some validity.

Spoiler

There is plenty of optimism heading into this game but there are some new concerns we’ll gently hint on at the end. For many, it will render the rest of this post moot but we’re going to write the whole thing anyway.

This is the biggest game in DKR since, well, I’m not sure, but it’s been a long time. This game is essentially a Big 12 Championship semifinal and it was treated as such.

Red Zone Focus

A central focus of the week was red zone and physicality. Steve Sarkisian was taking no prisoners with his laser focused instruction on red zone scheming and teaching. I have no idea how successful Texas will be against Kansas State’s red zone defense but I do know the head coach and offensive staff are not lacking for effort.

Practice this week, especially in that regard, was detailed, organized, and extra focused. Sometimes there are some light-hearted moments but not this week.

Sources state we’ll see some different looks and plays this week but we’re not vouching for whether or not they’ll work.

Quarterbacks

Maalik Murphy‘s week got off to a bit of a rough start, particularly on Monday, but he had a good finish to the week, particularly on Thursday. After gaining some experience last Saturday he’s as confident, and sources say as ready, as he’ll ever be.

Murphy seems to understand he just needs to get the ball to his playmakers and let them do the work. They have the ability to make his job easier.

Quinn Ewers threw the ball while in pads starting on Monday but he’s not truly practicing. That may be a good sign for his eventual return, however.

Back to this week and the most important game of the remaining year.

Texas needs big games out of…

We asked a source for some key players to the game. Obviously everyone has to play well, and that became truer as the week went on…[ominous music].

Here are a handful of players who can greatly improve Texas’ chances of winning.

Maalik Murphy: If he takes care of the ball and hits the open receiver this game could easily fall into place.

Jaylan Ford: Kansas State has differing run schemes its comfortable running with four different quality runners. Ford should be kept clean to find the ball carrier.

Jonathon Brooks: Pretty obvious, Texas needs a big game on the ground against a susceptible K-State defense.

T’Vondre Sweat: The source also mentioned Byron Murphy. One of them neutralizes K-State’s great guard Cooper Beebe, the other blows plays up.

Adonai Mitchell: Xavier Worthy is going to see constant safety help over the top. This should allow Mitchell room to operate. Mitchell has been both a big play receiver and red zone receiver. The source also mentioned Ja’Tavion Sanders.

Ryan Watts: I was surprised to hear Watts over Jahdae Barron but Will Howard may try to stretch the field to create room for K-State’s run game. In any event, they need a big game from Barron, too, but that’s what he do.

Sources of optimism

Kansas State is a familiar opponent that doesn’t change a whole lot, especially since what they run has been working. K-State coach Chris Klieman essentially said the same thing on Tuesday. Sure, they’ll have some wrinkles on offense and defense, and probably attempt a trick play or two, but familiarity should help Texas play fast and confident.

The source continued, everyone knows how important the game is but he still feels the players will play fast and loose.

Injury Gods

Edge Ethan Burke returned to practice and looked okay given the layoff. Texas needs him back helping to set the edge but even if he’s not 100% Texas should have some answers for the K-State run game.

When it comes to injuries this wasn’t a great week. For obvious reasons we can’t go into detail, or even hint yet, but needless to say this is a week where the team needs to rally together and lift their level of play in order to fight their way to victory. The coaches also have to put them in the best positions to do so.

All things considered, the game tomorrow presents the most adverse circumstances for Texas year to date.

If you’re attending the game do your part and be loud.

Every week, the "experts" and media personalities talk themselves either into Texas losing outright, or for sure Texas not covering.

I heard Andy Staples talk this morning on Full Ride and he excitedly talked about KSU beating Texas. Childers and Neuheisel had asked him about Bedlam and he basically said "sure, that will be a game, but OU owns that rivalry and will win it, but let's talk about the Big 12 game where I do think the underdog will win and that is KState." He didn't even wait for the hosts to prompt him. I expect Gameday to have 4 of the 5 pickers taking KSU. At least.

There's a reason that, this late in the season, most of the advanced forecasts have Texas winning the game, usually by more than the Vegas spread. The Texas offense, even with Murphy, is not a good matchup for KSU. Texas is elite on special teams and KSU is just pretty good in that regard. The home field advantage matters.

It's like none of that matters because "huurrrrr, durrrrr, Texas isn't back huuuuurrrrr duuuuurrrrrr". Okay then.

So, who of significant impact is out/limited in a novel sense? This report source mentions Ford, Brooks, Sweat, B Murphy, Mitchell, Worthy, Sanders, Watts, and Barron as playing. We already know Catalon and Burke are probably not going to be playing/impactful.

So, that leaves OL (one of the tackles or Majors again), Whittington, Helm, a high-snap DL (Sorrell or Collins), Hill, the other starting CB (Brooks), or Jerrin Thompson/Williams Jr at safety.

If Sanders is too hurt to go, that takes away one of our big advantages in this game. Their linebackers are aggressive as hell and don’t cover very well anyway, so the middle of the field is wide open.

If Sarkisian can't figure out how to fill that void with Helm, Whittington and TBs, then the next person that calls the guy a playcalling genius should be autobanned. KSU's LBs define mediocrity. We know their scheme. It should be straightforward.
