If you have 10 minutes, listen to James Carville talk in detail about running barbed wire through Trump's "fat fucking ass" and how Melania is "horse fucking" Trump:

I can't say I actually like James Carville. It's been 30 years and I am still figuring it out.  But he has to be one of my top five people I'd like to get drunk with.  "We've had engineers weigh in; the man is incapable of wiping his ass."

If smell-o-vision was real, this video would inject a mix of old man piss and Tony's up your nostrils.

The Biden/Harris campaign people are actually good at their jobs.  They know the 30 day window is when the actual undecideds start to dial in.  They know we don't need a constant 6 month barrage of bullshit.

It's no coincidence that they're coming hard now and Obama is now out there.

No one would give a fuck what she said to the NYT back in August or some shit.

What's cool about that is I doubt they suddenly realized that Democratic policies are better for the economy than Republican policies. That would take considerable reprogramming.  Instead this is an indictment of his competence.

Eh, not sure I agree with your police work there.  The point of inflection is 1992, and since then every successful candidate has been a newcomer or outsider perceived as disruptive

Obama was broadly perceived in the same terms as Trump by the people who have been damaged the most by the consolidation of productivity gains- disruptive to the establishment order. And you can go back further than that.

Think about it this way: these are the presidents elected since WWII:

- sitting president/VP/Senator

- Supreme Allied Commander

- Sitting Senator

- Sitting President/VP/Senate Maj Leader

- Former VP
Vietnam ends

- Outsider Governor

- Radical Governor

- sitting VP CIA Director, VP, congressman, ambassador, son of powerful senator (return to establishment via next man up)

1992

- Southern Governor

- Southern Governor

- First term senator

- Notorious Celebrity

The relevant historical Trend here is that the white working class has been in political and cultural rebellion since the end of Vietnam and starting with Bill Clinton through Obama to Trump you see the recipe being refined to its essentials.

You do know who the current President is, right?  Dubya wasn't exactly an "outsider" either.  Dude had more political connections than most of the others combined.

I don't think I was clear - I meant the period on the graph when the approval of the president among whites without a college degree relative to the average rose through presidents of both parties from 1992-2020. That said, it's notable that since the end of Vietnam, the only two presidential election winners broadly perceived as part of the washington establishment  (Bush I and Biden) only lasted one term. Bush lost, and Biden would have.

I’m in the middle of the James Carville documentary that ran on CNN last night.  It’s pretty good and he is an interesting guy.  I would argue he understands politics better than anyone in this country.  Paul Begala reps the longhorns quite a bit in the doc.

Texags early vote tracking thread is just constant comparison to 2020. Republicans and whites are KILLING it in mail in voting compared to 2020. With absolutely no awareness of any difference in the anything between then and now, they are convinced Trump is winning bigly in PA, GA, and NC.

Zero recognition that it was the Republican state house that pushed mail in voting in 2019 because it benefits rural olds.

They are convinced Trump is winning Virginia. Early voting turnout strong in SW Virginia!!

The right wing media sources are already crafting the narrative that Trump was on track to win BIGLY u til the cheating started.

Does "Maye" even exist or are we looking at a Norman Bates situation with Elmo?  Also, is "Maye" suggesting you can vote 10x at the same polling place(s)?  I'm registered to vote in KY, TX & NY and you're GD right I'm using all 3 votes!

Maye is his mother.  I don't believe she's a US citizen.  She also seems to be a vapid cunt.

Born in Canada, spent much of her adult life in ZA.  More in the US of late.

Trump will win Southwest Virginia.  Too bad for them that no one really lives there.

I wonder whether Trumps lies about the hurricane in NC will backfire. There is a lot of press right now about the lying. Maybe NC tightens up?

I want Harris to blow out Trump and a part of me wants MAGA to believe that it was rigged.  I want them to believe that no matter what they do, it's rigged against them, and so they should just fucking give up.

The kamala podcast strategy is intriguing and even the Trump team dipped their toe in with an interview with Dave Ramsey. Couple thoughts.

  • if this helps Kamala, it could be the death of Sunday morning and cable interviews. Or at least they will be deprioritized.
  • these podcasts give the ability to show your human side with a long form format, if you can handle it.
  • I have to wonder if Mark Cubans recent podcast interviews isn’t a coincidence.
  • Call her daddy and Stern can both be sex filled talk but the hosts would stay away from that. Call her daddy can gotv with young, college aged women. Maybe stern can break down a few open minded non-college blue collar workers. Hes clear on his support of Dems so his loyal listeners at least tolerate that. Or change the channel

It's just a resolution, not a law, so it doesn't require anyone to do anything.  It has also just been introduced.  Lunatic legislation like this gets introduced all the time.  See, e.g. Greene, M.T., Boebert, L, and Gosar, P.

So even if passed, it's a fart in the wind.  But it is a pretty clear statement of intention.

I’m not a particularly religious person, but if I was, wouldn’t it seem like a pretty strong sign that God has slammed two hurricanes straight into the state where one of the presidential candidates currently lives?

I guess you can just wipe that away by claiming Democrats can control the weather…

This is the dream

"Normal" Republicans finally have to acknowledge what a loser Donald Trump is, and take steps to try to break away from MAGA.

MAGA because disillusioned by the overwhelming power of the deep state and goes back to their shanties to become non-voters (for anyone but Trump) once again. The true believers wage war on the RINOs in the GOP who betrayed their god.

Profit.

Exactly.  MAGA is going to cry even if Trump lost another 60 lawsuits like he did in 2020, so let them believe it was rigged and that it will always be rigged.  Maybe they will quit showing up and the more moderate Republicans get control of the party and we go back to people like Romney, McCaine, Dole, etc.

Yes, but, also a nasty civil war between the MAGA true believers and the ones who were just doing it to get elected.  They can recover electorally in the 2030s.

A part of me wonders if they’ll just fade into the woodwork and spend their time on social media and Fox News.  With Trump retreating back to Mar-a-Lago, they won’t be as enthused.   Hell, it was probably hard for them to fill the Pennsylvania rally this weekend.

He will continue to rile them up and keep them engaged - either with 4 years of "I am being persecuted and the 2024 election was stolen from me!" nonsense or by immediately declaring himself a candidate for 2028 the day after his loss in November to avoid his court cases.

He will not go away until he dies.  If he declines to run (ha), he will force every single person who wants to run in 2028 against Harris to come to MAL and kiss the ring and dance for his endorsement.  He holds those MAGAtards hostage and no one is else in the GOP is getting elected in 2028 without them.  And let's be real, he will have them all do their little tap dancing for his endorsement before he just gives it to Don Jr. or something.

Unless he dies before 2028, I find it hard to believe the GOP will put up much of a fight against Harris in her re-election. It will be 82 year old Trump, doddering around in a soiled diaper and drooling, while the MAGAtards cheer and more women and suburban, college educated people flee the party.  (So not much difference from 2024)

Just remember, if by some chance the GOP does not take the Senate in 2024, 2026 doesn't look great for them - North Carolina, Maine, Alaska, Texas.  GOP would have one target (Georgia).

Yeah, four years is a long time when you are that age. He already at the old man yelling at clouds stage. Hell, he could be running around on a scooter at that point. No way that body can take that weight for much longer.

And the media will never demand his medical records. Remember Hillary’s pneumonia? Oh lord was that a scandal.

All of this.  There is no Republican party any more.  None.  Zero.  It is the cult of Trumpism, everything else has been pushed out/destroyed.  Stop believing that there's any "return to sanity" or some shit.  There won't be.  Ever.

Yup. If nothing he does will weaken his 45% support, then aging won’t either.

May least it would lay bare the craven thoughtlessness of his support, as they either continue to agree with the completely incoherent mumblings of a man who is completely senile, or explain away what he “means” when he says he tasted his own poop, or that he’s still better than any democrat.

How crazy is it that the last time Donald freaking Trump wasn't the republican nominee for president, was 2012. Mack Brown was still coaching here, FFS. For two more seasons. That's how long they've hitched their wagon to this insane evil conman.
