Rough night, @Al Bundy's Napoleon Hand?

And, yes, drinking and listening to Black on repeat is the remedy.

I'm all right. I think I read too much. Just wanted to convey getting your heart smashed is something every one can relate to. Be kind to people who didn't mean to hurt you and it will pay off in the long run.

putting aside the "blues" genre, best ones ever in my mind are "Yesterday" and "For No One" by the Beatles, "Black" by PJ, "Purple Rain" and "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Prince, "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers, "I Can't Make you Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt, and while maybe more of a troubled relationship song more than a breakup song, "With or Without You."

next level down would be "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by Al Green, "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morisette, "Digging in the Dirt" by Peter Gabriel, "Always on My Mind" by Willie, "River" by Joni Mitchell, "Unbreak My Heart" by Toni Braxton, "Last Goodbye" by Jeff Buckley, and because I was an early teen in the mid-90's when a girl that went on to be a cowboy cheerleader dumped me our soph year of high school, I will throw in "End of the Road" by Boyz2Men. Birdy's version of Bon Iver's song "Skinny Love" hits pretty good for me too.

my absolute fucking favorite however...

Every Magnetic Field Song on 69 Love Songs, but a couple stick out..

01) I Think I Need a New Heart

But the words you want to hear
You will never hear from me
I'll never say "happy anniversary"
Never stay to say "happy anniversary"

02) I Don't Want To Get Over You

I don't wanna get over you
I guess I could take a sleepin' pill
And sleep at will
And not have to go through what I go through
I guess I should take Prozac, right?
And just smile all night
At somebody new

Somebody not too bright
But sweet and kind
Who would try to get you off my mind
I could leave this agony behind
Which is just what I'd do
If I wanted to
But I don't wanna get over you

'Cause I don't wanna get over love
I could listen to my therapist
Pretend you don't exist
And not have to dream of what I dream of
I could listen to all my friends
And go out again
And pretend it's enough

Or I could make a career of bein' blue
I could dress in black and read Camus
Smoke clove cigarettes and drink Vermouth

Like I was 17, that would be a scream
But I don't wanna get over you

I'll see your Dr. Hook and raise you Fountains of Wayne:

. . . and not so much for the song itself but the famous film it accompanied, another story of an affair with an older woman, but in this case the protagonist eventually falls for the daughter:

Absolutely the first song that came to my mind for this topic.

Here's one of my favorites, I still love the video as much as I did 35 years ago...

You know how much trouble that guy would be in for responding to a newspaper ad?  The fact that his old lady penned the original ad wouldn't matter one bit.  This scenario would not end well for that nerdy Casanova.
