Where by the airport? Along 90 heading towards 99??

Yes, on the north side of the highway but out of view. You can see some signs of construction if you look across the airport after passing hwy 6.

That's her. In the run-off we were stuck between choosing her or this guy. I'm sorry. Can't trust cowboy hats here in the suburbs.

What?

So, your friends who support all this shit are good people who just don't want to ruin their relationship with other good people who support all this shit... But the politicians who do the shit that good people vote for are the bad people and the good people just can't not support them.

Is that what you said?

For some, sure. But I think you are perhaps biased due to your education, intellect, and that handy (or cursed) thing of having a photographic memory.

You seem to reject the possibility that there are just a bunch of dim goobers who go through life not looking at anything political, not knowing any current events, not having any idea of civics, who literally have no idea what the hell is going on in the world and who vastly prefer it that way.

And more importantly, these people have absolutely no intention of changing their behavior.

Just like it is unwise to conclude malice when simple negligence or stupidity is at fault, I think it unwise to always attribute the worst personal characteristics of people when it can truly be said that they are so ignorant and uninterested in all things politics that they are only vaguely aware of the things intelligent, motivated, well-read, watch the news daily people are aware.

That latter condition certainly does not give them a pass, but it does not make them inherently evil either.

our current crop of GOP politicians? I agree with you 100%.

My complete thoughts on the subject are actually the two posts.   There are idiots who really don’t follow any of the news - but all of their friends and family and church members are big GOP types.     Since they don’t follow what is going on, they essentially fall back on “ I don’t follow who to vote for, but all my friends say vote for these guys, and they seem really upset if you are a Democrat, because it’s bad, so I guess I’m voting Republican”

My work colleague I mentioned was one of those people who weirdly was extremely religious, but seemingly completely uninformed on anything political.   My small point was that people like that were not voting for Trump because they were racist and liked racist policies, some of the idiots had bought into three decades of “Democrats bad, GOP protected family values”, and they feel pressure from a societal point not getting sideways with all their friends and family and fellow church members.

You are exactly correct that if the people voting for the GOP knew exactly what the fuck was going on, but supported the GOP anyway to not get sideways with friends and neighbors, then those people get no pass whatsoever.  In a way they are worse than the actual racists because they should know better. Since all of the politicians know exactly what is going on, they are the ones who have simply no defense of any kind.

I could’ve been clearer in my first post, but you can’t make me change my scotch drinking habits.

Taking the half glass full route, maybe this leads to a bunch of maga deaths in FL/TX/GA/MS/LA.

It just hits you every once in a while that we have a president who has no idea how the world works. And we're all just sitting back watching, like "Huh. Hope we live through it."

It's the biggest mystery for me. Like I know otherwise smart and good people who have voted for him three times. But pick any random 30 seconds of him talking, and you're like "Oh yeah, he's a conman. Just completely full of shit, and completely ignorant, in addition to being an objectively horrible person". He should have been laughed off the stage in his first debate in 2016, and that would have been the end of it. "Who the hell would vote for this guy to be president??". But nope.

Which would suggest that the people you know are not, in fact, either smart or good.

Trust me, I think a lot about it. It sucks. Family I've known my entire life. Friends I've had since elementary school. To say this has complicated my relationships with these people would be a huge understatement.

But yeah, remove politics from the equation, and they're great people.

It’s something we all have to deal with. My brother-in-law is a guy whose company I enjoy. He’s been good to me. But knowing his politics and listening to what he has to say about various out groups and the joy he takes in Trump hurting them—he’s a bad person.  And I very frankly don’t want to be around him.

I think they are exactly the type of people who will turn in GOLL once Trump’s SS wants to know who’s loyal.

They have no problems with pain happening to the others.   But once the others are gone, GOLL may become a target as ‘other-lite’.  Not brown-ish, but still an enemy of the people.

Turning in friends and relatives might be the line in the sand for some folks, but with MAGA, banking on that would be a fool’s bet.

This. It’s literally the way it ALWAYS goes with authoritarian regimes, which are almost always built on unifying and consolidating power on a foundation of demonizing the “other.”
They purge the initial “other.” But they still need an enemy. So they expand the definition of “other.” Again, and again. Eventually including people in former in-groups, even former regime insiders.
Idiots think the regime will never come for them. And time after time, they are wrong.
