Are you opposed?

How does a progressive wealth tax in particular help effect the goal of making home ownership more attainable? I am open to the idea if you can connect the dots.

Foreign speculation in domestic housing markets seems to be low hanging fruit. Property taxes another one, but thats local/state and not federal. Maybe trade in a couple aircraft carriers to buy down mortgage rates. I don't know how people can make the current rates work with the current market prices for real estate.

Nothing wrong with drinking going down. Agree that reproduction rate is problematic. We'll break out of that one I think eventually, it's a bit of an uphill climb against some of the societal, cultural, and economic influences.

There isn’t a country in the world that has bounced back from birth rates slipping below 2.1 to back above it. And it ain’t happening in the US in our lifetimes.

It disincentivizes the wealth from treating a basic human need- housing- as an investment opportunity as to more what it actually should be, a public interest, and that's particularly true when those in power are barking about making homelessness a crime.

Has anyone actually modeled this? Is this really one of the primary outcomes expected from a progressive wealth tax?

Did anyone model the New Deal or Reagan Revolution? We know the outcomes.

So the answers are "no"?

If you just want a progressive wealth tax that is ok. You don't have to make unfounded claims about how it is going to make home ownership more attainable.

Agree completely. We need to make the american dream attainable again.

We should start with making the basic rights outlined in the Constitution attainable again

It won't be a magic wand, but over time, over multiple administrations?

If I had a gun to my head and was forced to bet, I'm betting on increased home ownership and no trillionaires standing in food lines.

I think we've had a breakthrough, Ana. You offered no solutions but genuinely listened. I think we've made real progress.

You're a clown. You realize other people can read this exchange right? You have called me a sociopath in your posts because you are basic, but only one of us has ever helped out other posters here tangibly in a moment of need. Be better.

You haven't killed it on one objective measure yet.  In years.  Your posts are intentionally ephemeral nonsense.

Huh? The Kaepernick thing happened nearly a decade ago. How are these people still stuck on this and Obama? It’s like they have to search about cultural shit to force themselves to be angry about it

Yes but they can use fear of black people to remind MAGA that's why you vote for them even if it's against your own interests, destroys what little wealth you have, and further lines their pockets to your detriment. But remember that black guy who kneeled 10 years ago?

She's playing her cards.

You are the leader of the Venezuelan opposition.  You don't have the resources to depose Maduro.

There is mercurial, childish man with a fragile ego to your north who has AMPLE resources to assist your cause.  And he fucking LOVES him some flattery.  Shit, talk about how his brilliant handling of Venezuela thus far is surely a sign that he is a capable and impressive lover, whatever it takes.  Play the cards you've got, and "play to Trump's ego" is a big fat Ace.

Somehow I’d missed this but read this in the New Yorker this AM.

Quote

Donald Trump has lobbied for months to be given the Nobel Peace Prize. In August, Trump announced that he had “solved” seven wars. The claim was largely specious, however, since some of the nations he referred to weren’t actually at war. But as last week ended with mounting hopes that, after two years, Israel’s brutal campaign in Gaza might end with a deal brought about via Trump’s ministrations, speculation circulated that the American President might indeed win the Peace Prize, which was to be announced on Saturday. Instead, it went to María Corina Machado, Venezuela’s main opposition leader, who has been in hiding in that country since last year’s disputed Presidential elections.

Machado is a curious choice for the Nobel Committee, given that she has said she supports Trump’s pressure campaign against Venezuela’s President, Nicolás Maduro, and also the recent U.S. military attacks on Venezuelan boats. Additionally, one of her top advisers told the Times last month that Venezuela’s opposition was in discussions with the Trump Administration, and had drawn up an action plan for the first hundred hours after Maduro’s eventual ouster. On Saturday, Trump made a backhanded acknowledgment of Machado’s win, saying that “the person who actually got the Nobel Prize called today, called me and said, ‘I’m accepting this in honor of you, because you really deserved it.’ ” Trump added that the gesture was a “nice thing to do,” then made some remarks about how he had assisted Machado and how Venezuela “needed help” because it is a “disaster.” On Sunday, Machado told NPR that she had dedicated her prize “to the people of Venezuela and President Trump.”

And the lives of Americans are immeasurably better for it.  Don't forget that three trans kids can't play sports.

I’d prefer we just stop playing the anthem at sporting events. Save it for international events. Stop the fly overs too.

I like this. But I do enjoy seeing cool shit in the flyover. Best one I ever saw was Eurofighters doing low level afterburner at the 100 year anniversary of Le Mans over the track. Shit that was way more intense than they would allow here. Guy next to me had his kid crying and he was just laughing.

Always impressive how some Admins will hire seemingly unqualified people to visible positions. Which then gives them immediate qualifications to hold even higher jobs. This woman could be the WH's press secretary within months if whats her face leaves for any reason.
