Some of our members know these babies.

Come on Nicole. Can we be nice for 2 or 3 days and let the families find out?

The family posted the statement for this one. I won’t post any of the others. I will leave it to you guys to dictate what should and should not be posted on this forum that most of us have vacated.

I hate to go there but… Mystic‘s buildings are very low laying. Between the road and the river. There’s no hill, maybe a slight rise. Their neighbor Mo Ranch has their girls’ dorm on top of a hill. I get it. Walking up a hill a couple times a days a bitch, but there’s precedent for putting buildings up high.

Too soon, bro.

The Spring Branch Guad crossing is at the top of my neighborhood. The peak should be at 2 am, and should top Hwy 281. I suspect 281 will be closed within the next few hours here.

Crazy to think high enough to close Hwy 281?   😬

I have a sinking feeling I will be attending 3 funerals in the coming weeks for girls going into 3rd or 4th grade.  None of the “confirmed” names yet, but no news is bad news right now.  It’s gut wrenching.
This post allegedly came from the family, so I give it a pass. But a lot of those names and missing pictures with phone numbers were not from the families. Just an awful situation all the way around.

No news is bad news indeed for those of us who wait.

Yeah. I will not be posting any more of the other ones. The one I posted was confirmed by her family. There are too many. One is too many. This is a bad night. And the fact that in the presser they did not immediately talk about Camp Mystic spoke volumes. It’s as bad as we thought. God bless them all.

sorry if I got snippy. That will be the last one I post. As far as a RIP announcement.

while thats true, getting the information to the camps  and being able to act on it  is the main issue, flood warnings are issued numerous times a year and actual flooding only end up actally coming to fruition occurs at a much smaller percentage. And then trying to wrap your minds around a once in 500 year flood that manifests over 5 hours at the dead of night is inconceivable.

I would assume the leaders of the camps had either hardline phone or internet and got the warning, but the main rains didnt happen until later in the day, and the actual rise was catastrophic at 2am in the morning.

there will be a shitload of fingerpointing and TJH and his team will wait a respectable day or two and then drop lawsuits on anyone associated with the hill country... and the loss of the kids will be lost in the process.

time will tell if there was enough time to actually warn the camps and for them to act on the information or if this was a catastrophe set the moment the camps were set up decades ago.

but acting like a single flood warning is a badge of protection is rediculous.

I hope the number of confirmed losses doesnt climb any higher but that seems unlikely.

This is a very well written and well thought out post. Thank you. And fuck TJH. Shame he wasn’t one of the casualties

My family was directly across the river from La Junta last night in a house on the river side. Absolutely devastated. We are ok but I can’t stop thinking about all the people that won’t ever see their loved ones or children again. This is what we woke up to…it came up about another 10-15 feet after this but we had already evacuated up Japonica hill to the church. I’ve been through many hurricanes on the gulf coast but those never cut this hard. Gutted.

Why would you even post that? Come on. Don't you have enough targets?

On this one Nicole, take a fucking knee. This is not lifetime, this is life. We have members hurting. Don't post. Go get a broom and about 4 boxes of trashbags and meet the team out there.

Let those who need to grieve grieve. You and me, plus our community, help them rebuild.

Oh, and sandwiches. Don't forget sandwiches.

I don’t know what to say.  This is heartbreaking beyond measure.  The loss of all innocent life is terrible but when kids die like this it’s crushing.  I’m so sorry for those affected by this tragedy.  I wish I didn’t know about this.  Even as someone who is completely uninvolved I’m not tough enough to take this kind of stuff.

My 7yo daughter’s good friend and fellow classmate is one of those missing from mystic. I don’t know how to break the news to her that this happened but I truly can’t imagine how her parents are dealing with this tragedy. Good God.

We just have to hope they’re safe on higher ground and the search and rescue pilots rescue them.

I just got word that Dick Eastland, the owner of Camp Mystic, is among the deceased.

We saw this in a text chain. Was waiting for confirmation. Really sad.  He taught my daughter how to fish (better).

Just saw the same thing in neighborhood text. Didn’t he get the girls out of the low camp cabin?

I got my boy out from La Junta. As far as I can tell the whole camp got to high ground well in advance of the bad stuff and watched the camp get obliterated. My son is 8 and they took the younger kids to the backside facing away from the camp and river and did a bunch of games and songs etc. One of the first things he said to me was he asked if they’re still doing the fireworks tonight. I love that camp.

I’m so happy for you and your family. The counselors and staff at La Junta were heroic.

I had to go to Ingram Elementary to register my kids name. That’s where they were flying in the mystic girls. To give the scene- I’m waiting in line to get my kids name registered and there’s women breaking down around me after receiving the news from the national guard that they hadn’t found any of the missing girls.

Fast forward to tonight and they’re finding some of these families little girls, just not in the way we all hope. There’s no good news, it’s all devastating news.

Thank you for sharing and glad you and son are safe. And yes it’s all devastating from the sources I am getting as well. When the Judge said “all accounted for” hours earlier today he meant the girls the camp had moved to higher ground. The judge was not counting the ones who had been caught in the flood. Separate things unfortunately. It’s as bad as we all think and I won’t be posting the other names I already have regardless of parental announcements. I posted the one girl’s because I had permission to do so. It’s all bad. And I do think the FLIR does help at night. It’s heart wrenching.

We could all use an infusion of the innocence of an 8 year old right now. God Bless him, you and your family. We are still in vicarious agony over friends missing children

There’s multiple little girls identified, there’s multiple still missing. What happened in the last 24 hours is unthinkable, unspeakable. I’m having trouble sleeping.

Lightening show in Burnet County right now is crazy.  Unbelievable amounts of rain NW of Austin.  😬

The one north of Marble Falls is still just sitting there.

If all our local future radars are correct it’s going to expand and sit over west and south Austin all morning.  I’m out near Dripping Springs off Fitzhugh and it’s been raining nonstop since Thursday evening.  Thankfully mostly no flooding but the ground is soaked, so if few inches fall today all the low water crossings here will be closed.

Relax. She didn't do anything wrong. Lots of worse posts on this thread than Nicole's.

Man, that cell up on the north side of Lake Travis is just wild. Did basically the same thing as the storm that inundated the Guad/SanSaba. Just sat and spun all night.

Hope anyone up in that area is safe.

I had to go pick my oldest up from his mom's place in Georgetown at 3am so I could take him to the airport and yeah, I caught one of those bands that peeled off around that time. Shit was hairy.

After this happening yesterday, it was rough dropping him off this morning. He's going for a week to a scout camp just outside Asheville, NC and that tropical storm has me nervous as hell.
