I really enjoyed laughing at Leavitt's tears when he cried after brashly calling out Quinn before our game.

I recently rewatched the game. I was very disappointed the camera never found Jake Plummer again after right before the 4th and 13.

That would have been a nice dose of salty tears.

I edited this "hype" video weeks ago but wanted to share again. I can't fucking wait for this season. Optimal to watch with headphones on and a whiskey and/or weed pen in hand. Clips are strictly from Texas sports media team.

I watched this video at 10:00 am a few days ago and thought it was ok but the music was off and then I just got high and rewatched it and fuuuuuuck yes this is amazing.

The video editing is amazing. The music selection is horrible. If I had to choose between drinking a gallon of antifreeze or listening to that song again there would several moments of internal debate. And then I would be dead.

Pretty much the same, without the debate. I'd be chug-a-lugging the antifreeze as soon as someone reached for the unmute button.

Fucking horrible.

Hahaha. Sorry you don't like the song. But it was the driving force for actually making the edit. And in my weed addled brain, it feels epic. 😂

Really sad news broke about Chace Calicut yesterday. The North Shore product and Georgia commitment, and one time Texas prospect, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. He was allegedly driving while a passenger in his car was brandishing and firing a gun at another car driven by a fellow student. Calicut, it is written in the arrest documents, tried to block a fellow student’s car on a major street, brake-checked him, pulled alongside him and drove recklessly among other things.

Yes, we’ve known about the incident for weeks now. We did not publish or publicize the issue when it occurred because I’m no investigative reporter and we had other Longhorn-related news to cover. And we just didn’t think it was right to dance on the grave of a 17-year old.

The incident happened roughly the week after Calicut committed to the Bulldogs. It’s clearly a bad situation that likely will haunt Calicut for the rest of his life (and perhaps rightly so).

I know there are a lot of things being said, done, etc., about who was right, who was wrong, who knew, when they knew, and how they handled it after the news broke.

But I really don’t give a damn about any of those things.

The only thing that actually matters is how sad a situation it is. A 17-year old football player likely wasted the opportunity of a lifetime to allegedly bully and almost kill a fellow high school student.

That’s sad.

**

More legal news:

Isaiah Bond’s defamation lawsuit against his accuser was dismissed by a judge “with prejudice” yesterday.

Bond is another unfortunate tale of possible wasted opportunity. He had NFL written all over him. Yet he faces multiple legal hurdles before that is even a possibility.

**

Enough about those situations. Let’s talk about some folks that are choosing a different path.

**

I spoke with another team source yesterday afternoon.

While it wasn’t a long or particularly deep conversation, one name came up and we talked about them for a bit.

It’s safe to say that Jack Endries has caught the attention of nearly everyone on the team.

From what I was told, the Cal transfer is not just an average tight end that the Horns picked up in the portal to tide them over a year. Instead, there is now some who think he has a chance to be the best tight end yet in Sark’s offense at Texas.

That’s very high praise considering the effectiveness of both JT Sanders and Gunnar Helm the last two seasons.

I was a little taken aback by the discussion. I thought Endries was really good when Texas signed him. But both Sanders and Helm were relatively high draft picks.

I guess we’ll see. But the expectations and talk behind the scenes on Endries is really exciting.

There's a chance this OL leads the nation in false starts.

Cam Williams was either 1st or 2nd nationally in penalties last year and we know Majors was good for 1 snap infraction a game.

I'll knock on some wood, but I'm not sure it can get worse than that.

Thanks for the post. That's exactly how someone covering recruiting should handle the Calicut situation. It's weird that other people chose to handle it differently.

I will say on the Isaiah Bond situation it's my understanding the plaintiff and Bond came to some kind of settlement? I'm curious to see if the sexual assault charges end up being dropped, although I haven't seen anything official along those lines yet. I'm not sure he's going to be facing the multiple legal hurdles Burton is alluding to here. But maybe I'm wrong on that.

I'm assuming Endries is going to be our leading receiver, at least in terms of catches. Possibly yards, too. I feel like he's going to be Arch's favorite check down target, not to mention a favored receiver on other routes. I'm also interested to see who we use as the 2nd tight end, and how effective they ended up being.

After today, Steve Sarkisian gives his team a long weekend prior to the beginning of training camp.

Players are set to return for a team meeting next Tuesday and then the first practice is expected to be next Wednesday.

At that point, football season will have actually started.

**

On the surface, there appears to be a lot of pressure on Arch Manning and the Longhorns to meet out-sized expectations this season.

But following SEC media days, I feel like three of Texas’ closest SEC neighbors - A&M, LSU and OU - may have have more daunting expectations.

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko is on record saying he has high expectations for his team this season, telling more than a few reporters that he has a team with 10+ picks in the next NFL draft. If Elko can’t make the playoffs with that kind of lineup, when can he?

At LSU, Brian Kelly has a returning quarterback some think might be the no. 1 overall pick and a defense that should be immensely improved because of key additions from the portal. But Kelly has been unable to get over the proverbial hump in Baton Rouge. Any missteps and Kelly could be headed for the unemployment line despite a massive buyout.

As for the Sooners, this is a make or break year for Brent Venables. He returns a strong defense. They can stop the run, rush the passer and create turnovers. But to be a successful head coach, you have to be strong on both sides of scrimmage. The Sooners, including Venables himself, expect dramatic improvement. Let’s see if he gets it.

Meanwhile, it was Texas, with a new starting QB, with four new starters on the OL, all while losing 12 picks to the NFL draft, that was picked to win the SEC.

If OU, A&M, and LSU don’t break through this year, when will they?

Portal additions: Predictions and expectations entering fall camp

The Texas Longhorns begin fall camp in six days with the start of the season just 37 days away. The program welcomes 11 new members to the team from the transfer portal this season, with as many as seven expected to be starters this season.

OnTexasFootball makes some predictions and lines up expectations headed into fall camp.

Defensive line the key ...
Maraad Watson, DL, 6-3, 327

The freshman All-American is expected to start, or play starter snaps without question. Texas loves what they have seen to this point. Two years left to play before heading off to the NFL.

OTF prediction: Starter that will ascend with NFL scouts this season.

Cole Brevard, DL, 6-3, 346
Expected to start over the ball, or play starters snaps. Multiple years of Big 10 experience. Expected to be in an NFL camp a year from now.

OTF prediction: Starter that will be very key in the ability to hold the POA against the run.

Travis Shaw, DL, 6-5, 342
Expected to be a very key rotational piece with run stopping ability. Likely second team to begin the season, if fully healthy.

Hero Kanu, DL, 6-4, 299
Expected to be a rotational player with disruptive ability.

Lavon Johnson, DL, 6-2, 310
If fully healthy, could be a key rotational piece. Has two years to play.

Offensive skill players ...
Jack Endries, TE, 6-4, 236

Will start. Has been much better than expected, and the expectations were that of a starter that would be productive and a terrific scheme fit. Has two years to play, but could have decision to make after the season.

OTF prediction: Starter that will put up numbers similar to Gunnar Helm last season.

Emmett Mosley, WR, 6-2, 210
Will be a starter. Has been even better than expected headed into fall camp. Will play two years, and then off to the NFL.

OTF prediction: Starter that will be on par with Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore Jr. in terms of a threat in the passing game.

Impact linebacker ...
Brad Spence, LB, 6-2, 241

The junior transfer from Arkansas will be an impact player for the Longhorns. He will start, or play starter snaps at linebacker with the ability to play off the edge as a pass rusher. Spence is a true NFL prospect that could be at Texas one, or maybe two years.

OTF prediction: Will ascend on NFL boards throughout the season. Space player at LB, that will also add to the pass rush versatility on the team.

Kicker and punter ...
Mason Shipley, K, 6-0, 187

Starter and will be very key piece to the 2025 season. Texas isn't expecting perfection, but just needs consistency from both hash marks and in game deciding situations.

Jack Bouwmeester, P, 6-3, 209
Starter, potential all-conference selection and potential NFL punter. Has the ability to help maximize the defense capabilities.

A QB with playing experience ...
Matthew Caldwell, QB, 6-4, 209

Could very easily be the backup for the Ohio State game. Brings multiple years of game experience.

If Mosley is as good as Wingo and Moore like Gerry suggests that would be something... we just need the OL to be solid in pass pro and this offense will be elite.

For no really definable reason, I feel like Arch and his recivers are going to feast on quick throws against blitzers.

How's tOSU's new DC on blitzing?

DL:

  • Maraad Wilson should starts/play starter snaps. Texas' staff loves him. Getting this dude for two seasons is huge. Absolute portal win.
  • Brevard is also a key addition and will be a 0 tech. Expected to play a ton.
  • Shaw will play, but there are still questions surrounding his health and ability post so many injuries. Fall camp will be telling.
  • Kanu and Johnson will provide solid depth. Awesome to have three transfers on the d-line with multiple years remaining.

Offensive Skill Weapons:

  • Endries "has been much better than expected" and the expectations were already high. We may be looking at a David Thomas-type impact; dare I say, even greater? If the Kool-Aid the 9.95ers have coursing through their veins is legit (this is an obvious, "gird one's loins" type of situation), Endries is set to possibly have the best season in Texas Football history for a TE. For reference, Thomas caught 50 balls for 613 yards (47.2/game) and 5 TDs in 2005. Maybe it's just me and his performance in the USC game (10 for 88 yards), but it seemed like was more that year. Anyways, what a beautiful option for Manning in his first year as a starter. Fuck it, he breaks Thomas' single-season marks and goes on the win the Mackey. This is Surly and it's the off season. Proclamations of grandeur is what we do. Did I mention he has two seasons to play... I may need to go clean myself up.
  • Mosley has also enchubbened the staff. "Two more years, then off to the NFL." Hmmm, I'm sensing a theme with this year's portal class.

Impact LB:

  • Spence "will start, or play starter snaps at linebacker with the ability to play off the edge as a pass rusher." And, you guessed it, could play two more years but is viewed as a true NFL prospect after this upcoming season.

Specialists:

  • Shipley "just needs consistency from both hash marks and in game deciding situations." Well, I'm triggered now. He's 31-35 in his career with a long of 60 yards.
  • Bouwmeester is an impact punter, "potential all-conference selection, and potential NFL punter."

QB:

  • Caldwell: "Could very easily be the backup for the Ohio State game." Maybe it's just me, but I don't want this guy to actually play, like ever.

Well, I guess y'all don't even need to read the spoilered article now.

Regarding TE numbers, Helm, last year, had a much better season, numbers-wise, than Thomas in 2005. Thomas just always seemed to be there when VY needed him.

If Endries is anything close to where these guys are placing him from an expectations perspective, he’s only going to be in Austin for one season.

Both true statements.

In my cursory check of single-season TE records at Texas, I must have viewed a source that has not been updated for last season yet. Helm broke all of Thomas' single-season stats: 60, 786 yards, 49.1/game, 7 TDs. Granted, he had the luxury of three more games.

Small sample size, but Arch didn't target TEs a ton in his action last season. Zero completion to a TE against UTSA, two combined catches for 15 yards between Gunner and Davis against ULM, and then Gunner did have 5 catches against MSU, but only had 23 yards on them.

Could be game plans or just a coincidence, but it does go against the traditional narrative of a young QB relying on his TE as a safety blanket.

Endries getting rave reviews shouldn’t be a surprise. That was a huge portal pickup and we beat out some really good teams for him.

Understood why he was behind Klare but not any other TE (the one who went to Ole Miss and the Wisky transfer to UH)

The fact that Arch Manning found Juan Davis for a reception should impress you the most.

I wouldn't consider last season as the backup to predict this season. He's "The Guy" this go-around and Sark's offense will make use of the TE, especially one getting paid a fair sum to be on the roster and with NFL expectations. I expect Arch will spread the ball around to all of his receivers.

Les Snead, the general manager of the Rams, has a son on the Longhorns football team. His son is pretty close friends with Arch. The Rams have two first round draft picks in the upcoming draft.

He's saying that the Rams' GM has a son on the Longhorns and is friends with Arch.  The Rams have 2 First Round draft picks in the 2026 draft.  Implying that they may have the gumption to use those picks to move up in the draft and select Arch Manning if he declares.

BornOrange beat me to it.

I'd add though that Manning coached by McVay in the NFL would be amazing.  I just don't want Arch to leave after this year.
