Celtics would laugh so fucking hard if that call came their way.

I actually like Tatum more than most, but your inflated sense of worth regarding him is insane.

I mean the only way this makes sense is two things...

1) They think Luka is the new Zion Williamson and will never regain previous form

2) That AD can help them win it all either this year or next

They really need both of those things to pan out to not have this in the head scratcher hall of fame but if both don't happen this goes into the head scratcher Mt Rushmore likely as #1

My guess is LeBron will step forward and start kicking his ass into shape so not sure the first one will manifest but TBD  also I think the Mavs are further than just AD away from the title so.....

To point 1. Luka being out of shape isn’t part of a smear campaign. It’s clearly been visible his entire career and is probably the leading culprit to his nagging injuries. Every Mavs fan admits that. Moving on from that is at least a decision. I just don’t understand not getting more for a guy that just dominated the Western Conference playoffs

I'm not debating he's struggled to keep himself in shape and it has led to injuries it's plain as day.  I think the difference is the change of scenery will probably force his hand as he now has an alpha dog (whom he claims is his hero) to answer to.  But yeah the deadline wasn't for 5 more days you could have solicited league wide offers in that timeframe.  And likely would have gotten offers from half the league all of which were more beneficial to Dallas which leads me to the straw I grasped in #2 which was they must think AD can help them win it all now as to why they kept it on the hush.

Frankly, even #2 wouldn't make it make sense because they're going to be so bad in 2-3 years.  If we don't get a Watson story or some sort of personal scandal then this is simply the worst trade in modern NBA history..... and they're have been some really bad ones in the past.

The closest analog I can think of here is Moses Malone to the 76ers.

There's no way Boston breaks that team up to take a flyer on Luka - even if he is a better player than Tatum.

I think MIL would listen on a phone call for Luka/Giannis.

Vic is a "go fuck yourself" before hanging up the phone. Jokic is a no. SGA is a no. Tatum has to be a no because they just won the title.

After that everyone is fair game I think.

The Celtics believe in defense first.  Their offense is based on attacking the weak defensive link on the other team.  They just won the title by mercilessly hunting Luka over and over.  It has zero to do w/ who is on the Celtics and 100% w/ who Luka is as a player.

Luka gets to be the face of the franchise for the LA lakers from now until he retires and win 2-5 rings along the way. Huge upgrade in every way.

Agree they aren’t dismantling a championship team for the unknown. Not that I think Tatum is on Luka’s level.

Luka for Vini Jr. who says no?

Even if all the stuff being said in the smear campaign were right he still demands a ton more than what Dallas took. Just disgusting. The owners being Lakers fans is just incredible that they’d just flat out do it this way.

How about talking to more than 1 or 2 teams for fuck's sake?  Frankly, if an executive at my company did something clearly this moronic, there would hopefully be protocols to catch said decision and unwind them.  But even if there wasn't, this would cost them their job.  Maybe not immediately but within 9 months they would be gone.  It'll be interesting to see if Harrison survives this.  He shouldn't.  Not opening up the trade talks to more teams to increase competitive offers is a fireable offense right away and borderline intentionally undermining of enterprise value.  Think about it beyond the terrible trade in basketball terms, the Mavericks just hurt and reduced their enterprise value last night, by probably 20%.  It's business suicide...... or a mark of a much more insidious long-term plan.

@Sbbruin is enjoying a nice vacation right now. I would imagine if he had heard about this trade on the ski slopes that he probably would have hit a tree.

One of my two best friends lives in Dallas and is a Lakers fan. He almost drove off the road when his wife told him what happened.

My other best friend is a life-long Mavs fan. I am a few hours behind him and he was asleep. I told him to check the texts I sent him when I finally got a hold of him. He looked at them and said “well glad that the Mavs decided to start over again. I’m going back to sleep and pretending this trade didn’t happen when I wake up.”

Yeah I’m stunned by this trade.  What a deal for the Lakers.

I'm glad I'm not crazy. I don't follow the NBA at all and I heard about the trade and immediately thought "What the fuck"?

I have some Mavericks fans in my family and they haven't said anything. I'm assuming they broke their cell phones when they heard.

I'm numb. I feel nothing. Ive been a fan of this team for 44 years and nothing comes close to how low this moment feels.
I thought the Rantanen trade was bad, but this is next level shit. I feel for you guys.

They are in their showers in the fetal position crying uncontrollably. I had the foresight of putting my phone in a ziplock

I'm not saying Boston definitely pulls the trigger, but to not entertain the conversation would be gross negligence.

Lolwut?

This is reference to the Harden trade when OKC got a "ransom" from the Rockets according to some poster on this site. If you replace Dallas with OKC and Houston with LA, you have the exact post.

I honestly didn't know much about Adelson. What a dispicable wretched cunt. Maybe it'll be okay to move to LV to get her the fuck out. Dallas would be first on the list for expansion or the next move.

Just watched ESPN and some “Shams” guy, who is an NBA reporter for ESPN, said the following:

”This is the most stunning trade that I have ever been a part of.”

WTF?!?

Bro… you are NOT a part of this trade.

You are a reporter!

Try “This is the most stunning trade that I have ever covered.”

My dad was ann editor at the Dallas Morning News when JFK was assassinated. He was in charge of determining what the paper needed to cover in town and where to send the local reporters.  He was even at the banquet that JFK was in route to when the bullets went through JFK’s skull.

My dad never once said:

”JFK’s assassination was the most memorable one that I was ever a part of.”

I heard that this morning as well. What an overinflated sense of self worth. Douche.

This is me. Thought Cuban was a huge douche. Was hoping for an owner that stayed out of the spotlight. Did not know this level of shit was possible.

Ho-lee fuq I didn't realize AD was owed ~200 million still.  You know he will opt in to that last year on the player option because there is a 0% chance anyone will offer him anywhere close to that 3 offseasons from now

I don't understand why people try and rate trades alongside all-time trades immediately.

I mean the Gobert trade was a few years ago and it keeps looking either worse or better.

Without the PG trade, Kawhi never comes to the Clippers. Yeah in retrospect it’s a disaster but that trade has to be considered with Kawhi in mind.

That’s the only way this makes sense to me—as the preliminary step in engineering a move that Dallas as a city and fan base would be fine with in the expectation that Dallas would quickly get a replacement.

I don’t understand your point. Who is Dallas and who are the Lakers here? Because Dallas got NOTHING like what OKC got. And Luka is a bigger star than George. Who cares if the Lakers acquire a guy who underperforms. We are talking about Dallas making a terrible decision, because they could have gotten 3-5x more from some other teams.

This. The trade was essentially for PG and the two time and reigning Finals' MVP. And, at the time, SGA was seen as a really nice player who make an All-Star game or two. It still blew up in their faces because they're the Clippers, but it was pretty reasonable in real time.

This trade is awful from the jump.
