Texas insiders are more worried about other schools than ATM.

I expect news today, mostly positive, and potentially an avalanche. It's Tuesday, after all.

Apparently, the Michigan guys are the answer. If those guys don't come Texas' way, plan B is going to be conjured out of thin air.

Texas feels best about that guy, Zion Williams and the LB from Wisconsin.

Raleek Brown may want $1M, but no one is offering him that. Texas offered Wisner $500k and he took it as an insult. His agent talked to like 30 schools and they ended up signing with FSU for under $600k. Smart move by Wisner, totally.

If Texas doesn't land the Michigan OL guys, go ahead and light the cigarettes, boys.

The usual suspect, our beloved former SEC QB and current GM, seems to completely confident in landing every target at the top of Texas' board.

Last time @closetojumping told me to light the cigarettes boys dakarian moore committed to the ducks. This might suck.

FWIW - Gerry/Bobby have said they think those two jumped the gun a bit. Sounds like there is interest on all sides but they haven’t come a figure both can agree on yet?

Even if we get those guys, we need more. 1 interior OL isn't gonna cut it, even if Baker moves inside.

I don't even understand our strategy with oline at all. Everything else is sound and fury.

Brown wouldn’t be the only RB add. They still need to bring a bigger more every down type of back - even if that guy has a pretty 50/50 split carry wise with Brown.

This. This type of player is also pretty critical to sarks offense. We didn’t have an explosive back that could catch passes out of the back field this year and it showed. Gimme dat wheel route

I heard rumors that Cam rushed out of Collie Station before they were even able to introduce him to the jizz jar tradition.

Feels like that may have been a hint connected to Brauny’s post about Bama.

I have to say, that would feel like a pretty strange allocation of their resources given the way their season ended and their needs. Who knows though, it’s silly season in cfb, I’m not going to be shocked by anything anymore.

On the subject of that new sooner:

"I know it was you, Fredo."

Are you fucking kidding me?

If a non-football fan read the balance of surly's Sark-related posts, he would be under the impression that we went 4-8 this year.

In the recruiting board, yes, Harris is the easier target. I don't venture onto the football board very often for my own sanity.

Gerry just said Texas won't make moves on Tre Richardson or other WRs until they get the Cam Coleman decision. Isn't that kinda stupid? The best alternatives might be gone by then.

Not to mention the centerpiece of our high school OL class this year is a dude who is like 260 lbs.

And coaches have reportedly considered moving Baker to guard. Baker is listed at 308 so he's probably in the 295 to 300 range. The Wyoming guy is listed at 310 so is probably also in the 295 to 300 range. And he's actually played guard before.

Regarding the gnashing of teeth over ‘losing’ Wisner - prior to the aggy game Wisner was clocking in at a 3.9ypc average. Yes the OL was shit - but so was Wisner. If your RB needs perfect blocking to be productive, then he’s not a RB you should be allocating big resources for. Wisner looked like a replacement level back in 7 of the 9 games he played this year.

Texas absolutely had to upgrade the position - whether they paid Wisner to stay or not.

A few thoughts from this train wreck of a thread:

If you’re hung up on “all-in”, did you not watch that exact same thing happen with the Cowboys? Jerry said all-in and got roasted. It probably wasn’t the best term to use by the 9.95rs but don’t read too much into a generic hyphenated term.

As to all the bickering, as I posted elsewhere a few weeks ago, that is part of the charm of surly. I’ve developed pretty thick skin over the years.

However, when the bickering starts really causing reasonably good posters to not post their thoughts because of fear of being lambasted not for a stupid post but for a different viewpoint or innocent thought, that’s not productive or good for site content. And we want good content.

With that said, I’ve been an ass many times over the years because of what I felt were stupid takes, but I decided to be a little more civil going forward, because it’s good for site content. A little. Not a lot.

Finally, I’ve met Bobby, Sydney, CTJ, and others on this site, and know who scramblyn is, and the shit that erupted this morning isn’t helpful. These are all good people as far as I know.

This is a good post. I don’t have time for the histrionics of the board anymore like I used to in college. Well, I have time to check a thread or two most days, but neither the time nor the desire to post much anymore.

Clark had the same amount of 100 yard games this season as Wisner... in 1 start. Enough said.

None of the guys we lost were huge difference makers, people are just getting antsy because we haven't replaced any of them yet.

If past is prologue, then aggy will end up bidding against themselves on this deal.

Bama couldn’t run the ball for shit. Absolutely killed them this season. Legend is going to perform seppuku live on Finebaum if they blow their bankroll on a WR.

Ask them to send them pictures of someone measuring both prior to booking the trip?

I’m sure there’s a way to frame it without coming across in an offensive way… Shit, you could even overnight them the tools to do it as a positive gesture.

“We know that roster height and weights are often embellished across the country. We want to confirm your listed biometrics prior to booking your trip.” Or some shit like that.

People around here like to complain about Texas not spending money that it has and now we're seeing suggestions of doing something like this instead of just buying a prospect and his dad two round trip tickets from Laramie to Austin?

For fuck's sake, flying someone in to make sure of everything in person instead of trusting them from 900 miles away is exactly what you do if you have money to spend.

Suchomel with an update on Sprague

1:07 p.m. - The back-and-forth continues. As we reported at 11:50 a.m., there's some confidence on the Michigan side about retaining Andrew Sprague. An independent third-party source indicated to me that the expectation is that Sprague is going to commit to Texas, possibly as early as tonight. He did meet with the new Michigan coaches yesterday. He met with Mizzouri coach Eli Drinkwitz either yesterday or this morning. I was told that there's a chance Steve Sarkisian is meeting with Sprague today, but I have not fully confirmed that. Stay tuned.

Fuck Parker. I hope we break him. Also fuck ou.

Texas is going to be good as long as the OL is solidified. That’s the most important thing to worry about…not RB or WR. Tho RB would be next in the list imo

What Longhorn insiders are confident that we get him? How are we all on this side of the fence, yet no one is hearing this confidence?

...hmm, almost like he's making shit up.

Harris is confident he's getting everyone he's targeting. That's pretty inside.

This is what I'm saying. How the hell have they not even brought anyone else? (ignoring the guy they immediately dismissed for size)

Similarly, on their livestream just now, Gerry just said Texas won't make moves on Tre Richardson or other WRs until they get the Cam Coleman decision. Isn't that kinda stupid? The best alternatives might be gone by then..

If you're a WR testing the market, I would think it's pretty stupid to remove yourself from the market when Texas has money to spend at the position.

Almost certainly Sark is meeting with him. Sark is on the road today and that is one of our top targets, if not our most important. I think the deal will be sealed, or maybe Sark fucks it up. Stay tuned. 9.95

I didn't do shit this morning except get called a meanie in a drive by shot by a poster with terrible football takes and a penchant to lash out at people like they've got a persecution complex or something. And before you say anything, yes, I know who that poster is as well.

When you say it's gonna happen now
Well, when exactly do you mean?
See, I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone

That's the most damning thing I've heard about Harris (and this obviously isn't the first time we've heard it). Being lazy or generally incompetent should not be tolerated in any position and especially not one like GM of course, but for that position specifically having the quality of always being 100% confident in obtaining your targets and therefore never developing sufficient contingency plans is actively damaging to the organization. And he's done it multiple years on multiple fronts.

My Tech buddies said they are getting Koi Perich to visit. Has anyone else heard where he is planning on visiting?

I couldn't help but wonder... Is Parker already moved out, or does Arch have to sit there doing homework while his roommate has a queue of dudes running a train on him?

The OL are getting in-homes first. That's what we should want priority-wise.

I rewatched the Cheez-It Bowl last night and was not impressed with McCutcheon. Lockett had the nice TD but that's it. I don't think that Wingo + Mosley + a bunch of question marks is a championship-level WR room.

When you’re looking at a guy who is going to make a major step up in competition - I think it’s probably pretty important that he doesn’t look like me (no upper body to speak of, can barely squat his own weight, gets winded walking up stair). Yes, Flood probably fucked this up, but I also don’t think they should waste a scholarship just because they bought a kid a plane ticket and a steak dinner. Their are plenty of other backup OL in the portal.
