Sooooo, this meeting was about turning the military against the homeland, yeah?

Trump is attending personally, too, I read. I’m cynical enough to believe that they may request a loyalty pledge.

Maybe just maybe this big meeting is only some lame motivation talk to go over Pete's warrior ethos ideas, but this is also how a military enforcement of a Trump lifetime appointment as President would start. Weed out the military leaders who would be violently opposed to the idea. Then start working on the ones who are somewhat accepting or open, and promote them to the key roles.

Oh, I expect now within a year or so that Trump will declare himself king, or emperor, or something. At this rate it would surprise me if he didn’t. “It’s just easier this way. Then one of my children will eventually take over. It’s so much better this way isn’t it? Why would we go back to the days when things were terrible?”
I can hear him saying it.

(partially tongue in cheek but not really. Things are really really bad, very quickly.)

The fact that you can legitimately post that, and every sane and rational person knows there is a material -- like, more than non-zero...we're talking double-digits -- percentage chance of that going down.....well, that tells you all you need to know about this hellscape of a timeline.

Yeah I doubt he'll go full Palpatine and declare himself Emperor while addressing the Senate, but I do think there will be "Trump Empire" type talk amongst maga folk at some point ("A lot of people are talking about it. Everyone I talk to says they want to see the Trump Empire continue. I don't really know a lot about it, personally, but I think it might be a good idea". Shit like that.

And BTW he was saying stuff like that about a third term, within months of being sworn in.

He already did, man.

I mean, his starfish kissers will say, "that's a joke, hur durr!"  But it's a straight window into his lizard brain.

Absolutely convinced that this guy is a dry drunk. And that is probably great for POTUS and the truly evil crew because they hold so much power over him.

They said Hegseth is becoming increasingly “obsessed” with his own security and exhibits frenzied behavior, such as fidgeting and pacing during meetings.

“‘There’s a manic quality about him. Or let me rephrase, an even more manic quality, which is really saying something,’ an insider told the outlet.

He did this back in February.

Hegseth spent a lot of time calling people fat and raving about shaving and PT. The drill instructors are going to be mean again. A bunch of the generals are there because of DEIA and they’ll get fired. Now that it’s the war department our enemies can “FAFO.”

Absolutely as stupid as you can imagine.

Nothing to see here. Let’s focus on whiskey Pete telling soldiers they are fat. Or we can look at the obvious ramp up to soldiers in every major American city.

So Trump complained about no applause, rambled incoherently about battleships, said “nuclear” was the n-word “there are two n words and you can’t say any of them”, then said military should train on US Cities and were needed to fight the “enemy within”.

Also, don’t call him a Nazi or a fascist, despite the echoing of Hitler in the 1930s

My only shred of hope in this timeline is that this was called because military brass had said out loud that they’re getting sick of this shit and that this makes them double down ready to refuse orders and turn on him when he officially declares martial law and orders open fire on US civilians. Yeah I know that’s stupid, I just can’t imagine someone devoting their entire life to the military and just capitulating to these no serving disrespectful pieces of human garbage.

There is a very high chance that last night, when a few of these guys got together in small groups to share a glass of whiskey, there was a very brief comment of "we all remember our oath, right?"  They nodded, and that was that.  There MAY have been a couple of even smaller side conversations about "so, we have some ideas about what to do if we get an illegal order," but even those conversations were very short and to the point I'd suspect.

Who, exactly, is “the enemy within”? Pretty sure it will eventually be anyone who refused to salute Heil Trump.

And it's absolutely this - that's not how it starts, but it's 100% how it ends.  He wants to deploy the military against Americans.

Again, let's get that very plain and straight: Donald Trump is champing at the bit to deploy the United States military, with orders to use deadly force, against Americans.

He is an existential threat to the Republic.

For now, this sort of thinking can provide some comfort.  In the future, once ICE is fully ramped up, I fear that the country will be fully fucked.  This guy gets it:

Quote

So how can Trump be sure that the absolute loyalty he demands extends all the way down to his foot soldiers? By hiring new ones. Who do you think those ten thousand fresh new ICE agents will be? Well, one thing we can say for sure is that they will be people who are okay with the proposition of taking a job with ICE as it is run under Donald Trump. This is not a job anyone will take by accident. It’s on the news every day. Hundreds of thousands of people are in the streets protesting against it. This creates a self-selecting pool. It will attract only those who are not repulsed by it. Job applicants will consist of those who see pictures of dudes wearing tactical vests and face coverings jumping out of unmarked trucks and grabbing people and think to themselves, “that looks cool.”

Brisket, this feels naive. All past Secretaries of Defense wrote an op-ed pleading with the military to remember their oaths on the eve of J6. It wasn’t because there’s a smoke filled whiskey bar where generals sit around and reaffirm their loyalty to the constitution

I feel bad for those who have served or anyone who honors the service of our military (like truly, not wrapping yourself in a flag bullshit). they're trying to enshitten one of the last things protecting our way of life. how this goes is how the rest goes. buckle up!

I know it feels naive.  But, we also know that there ARE a shitload of senior officers who do indeed remember their oath.  These are people who got a real education, went to West Point or the Naval Academy.  They are not suckers.

I don't think anyone should view top brass' attendance at that event as implying even tacit approval.  They received travelling orders and they followed them.  It's in the job description.
