We should have grabbed a return specialist in the portal

I have feeling people will be talking more about grabbing an OL and RB in the portal.

Texas tried for CJ Donaldson before he went to Ohio State.

Texas got Moseley in the portal. Can't predict when a player will get injured. Did you mean a second portal WR in addition to Moseley?

Yeah a 2nd WR... I'm not a DeAndre Moore fan.  Arch needed better weapons this season...

Six RBs isn't enough to your liking?

I kinda thought that the lack of a portal RB was due to Clark's recovery. But then he didn't play against OSU.

During the game I turned to my friend and said "We have seven RBs if we're including Niblett. Are these two really far and away our two best, to the extent that none of the others even see the field?"

Wisner is Wisner. Tough dude who will get you four yards when four yards are there for the taking. Baxter has a shot to be the guy, as I thought he looked like he was going at about 75% last weekend.

Hoping to see Moseley by the 2nd or 3rd tuneup game. Think it's unlikely he'll be ready for this one.

Definitely missing some explosiveness at RB if only Wisner and CJ getting all the carries...

Pretty sure Sark said in one of his recent press conferences not to expect Mosely until October.

I don’t take a whole lot away from the Ohio State game on the offensive end. The OL looked better than I hoped. Endries looks good. Other than that and Manning shitting his pants, not much there to consider. On the RBs, they just used their comfort guys, probably by plan.

Good God, man. They’re not going to be the only guys getting carries. Those guys are high on quality P4 backs nonetheless.

Good God man, I didn't say that's what I expect -- I was agreeing with the post quoted.  Sark will add more RBs getting carries in next 3 games -- hopefully 1 or 2 will bust some big plays...

Is this some sort of challenge you’re issuing to Codaxx and Red Five, sir? If so, these are men who will absolutely meet the moment.

I'll go first. They weren't horrific by any means, but they generally got about what the play was blocked for, against a light box much of the time. I thought Wisner was a lot less physical than what we saw last year (think atm) before he tired out in the playoffs.

We clearly do not have a Bijan or Jonathon Brooks on this team. But like I said, Baxter will only get better and he may be our volume back by midseason.

I sometimes think players either take some coaching too much to heart or start to outsmart themselves. Specifically what I mean here is, Wisner is capable of getting more, if he'd be more decisive when he sees a crease to take it and go. He used to do that. He has given up yardage at times to dancing and waiting for something more to develop, be it blocks or openings. That's a good thing at times, others, not so much. He needs to refine that decision process IMO.

They were playing Ohio State with an ultra conservative gameplan. I just don't think you can take too much away from that one.

Also, is there a Bijan in all of CFB this year? Or most years? I know you're a big Reuben Owens fan and that others here have been stanning for Jadyn Ott, but I don't see it.

Why is this injury so hush hush? Obviously, you don't have the answer to it, but it makes me think it's not something standard. Otherwise, why don't wee know what it is?

It's a hamstring injury, supposedly.

LOL, can we give a little grace to CJ Baxter? The dude tore his ACL, spent a year rehabbing, came back earlier than anticipated, and had a positive performance in his first game back against an excellent Ohio State defense.

Assuming he stays healthy, I expect him to be more aggressive and break bigger runs as he regains trust in his knee and overall ability.

Nope. What you see against Ohio State in Columbus in his first game back is what you're getting for the next two seasons, or just this one after Small Game Steve pushes the dude onto the trapdoor and pulls the lever, dropping him into the portal due to his lack of explosiveness.

It was more than ACL but your point is good. I’m glad he was running the way he was.

Thank you - that makes sense. It would explain the variability and uncertainty regarding when he'll return.

2 reasons those 2 backs were the only ones that played. Pass pro was a major factor, and I don't remember Sark using a 21 personnel set once. Might have been nice to try that since the flats are a weakness in cover 3 and OSU had trouble with Blue in those sets last season.

I forget who, maybe Bobby Burton, was saying Clark is very much like J Brooks, or can be.

He lazily gets Bijan comparisons sometimes, but I seriously think that's because they're both from Arizona. We haven't seen him play at all since highlights from his senior season in high school so I have no clue what to expect.

Put Jonah Williams on kick return as soon as he's healthy. Having Baxter out there on the first play of the season was kind of insane.

I'm going with because Baxter is fucking smart enough to tell (and get the touchback with the rule change) Wisner to take the Touchback. I can't remember but I think Gus announced it as Baxter returning, but it was Wisner. Baxter gave the T call at the 3 while Wisner returned it from a couple of yards deep to the ~29 but Baxter's T signal invalided it, it was ruled a touchback and we started at the 25.

Baxter should have done it again after tOSU's second TD instead of letting Wisner return it from ~7 yards deep. It looks like he started to do it but stopped short.

For any unaware, the new rule for this year:

"T" Signal on Kicks
Any waving signal by any player of a return team is considered an invalid signal.  The "T" signal given by a returner during any kick will now also be considered an invalid signal and will deprive the receiving team of the opportunity to advance the ball. This signal evolved as a signal to alert teammates that a kick returner was not going to return the kick. Now, after a "T" signal on kicks, there will be no return.

You can blame Shane Beamer for pulling the fake T signal out last year against the fat fucking retard.

Wisner averaged 5 YPC against tOSU and you guys are bitching?

It was great to see Baxter back at that caliber so soon after the knee injury - but Wisner was clearly the better back on Saturday.

Nope. He actually said Niblett was WR5 behind Wingo, Moore, Livingstone and McCutcheon.

Which is #notgreat considering how much 5 star money is tied up in dudes apparently unable to give us even a couple of snaps.
