Cut the cable after last year's season. We only subscribe to Netflix. And that might be on the chopping next, because its all shit.

I haven't watched a single football game, except Friday Night Lights, this year. Although I will be going to the game this Saturday, but that will probably be the last one.

Fuck em all.

Come hang at the tailgate.

I don’t know why, but amidst the broader unending shotstorm, this one hits different…

Just complete capitulation over something that would have been out of the news cycle in a matter of days.

I may just go buy a big ass external and torrent every disney thing I can. Sports streams aren't that hard to find.

I cancelled my Disney+ subscription, like you guys said, nothing likely going to happen, but hey, worth a try.

They can work but usually don't. Most Americans are addicted to ESPN. All of the networks would have done the exact same thing, though. Corporate officers are all spineless and only care about remaining in the 1%

well shit, I want to cancel my Disney/Hulu package but I get it free through a legacy Verizon plan.  I’m not paying them shit (directly) so I guess I will keep it??

Genuinely curious if they would've had the balls to pull this stunt in the football offseason. They know people won't cancel ESPN in September.

What is the best, smoothest, user friendly way to watch Disney programming without them benefiting from me financially?

I have the bundle, so I know that first, I need to switch from Hulu Live to YouTube TV for most regular programming stuff.

I have a 2 year old and bluey/Mickey Mouse Club are a big deal for him. He will/would totally understand at a later time, but for now it would suck.

ETA: “Cars”. Holy shit that’s his favorite thing ever.

Texags celebrating the Kimmel news like they just won a national championship. It still blows my mind that people welcome fascism so eagerly.

But you are paying for it. And you know it. Tell Verizon you don't want it, and drop your rate or you will switch to Metro.

You still have dial up in Lubbock right?

I read this, and then I look at Bud Light and Cracker Barrel. If boycotts don't work, someone please explain how the fuck these corporations just roll over for MAGA's whining.

Yeah, like y'all ain't gonna watch ESPN.

Yeah, but I’ll do it with my IPTV stream. $119 a year for all the sports, movies and regular/premium movie channels in one place. Been using it for years without any problems and I also get PPV stuff as part of the subscription. Fuck paying for cable. I just don’t get access to the PIP or multiview stuff from ESPN.

I don't give a fuck about the Longhorn game on Saturday.  This is a little more important.

Nexstar Media Group, which is seeking FCC approval for a $6.2 billion merger with Tegna, earlier said company-owned and "partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight's show."

If the kiddo is like every other 2 yo I know, just buy his 5 fav movies on Bluray (or 4k if he's a connossieur) with digital, and you'll be able to download all of them on his iPad.  Voila - no Disney+ required anymore.

I think in order for this to work, the talent needs to participate too.  Most of the actors and producers would probably be on board.  What would be huge would be if the sports workforce got involved and I doubt they would.  Loss of subscribers plus a refusal of talent to work for ABC until the decision is reversed would have an impact.

Get them at goodwill or a garage sale. Don’t buy them new.

I guess mine isn’t like the ones you know because he sure as fuck doesn’t have an iPad to cuddle up and watch shit on yet. Plenty of time for him to go into the personal screen abyss later.

ETA: Obviously, there is still good info in your suggestion. I would just run the stuff on the TV’s in the home instead of a personal device that he holds.

Yeah, I know, I was a terrible dad, but a bouncer + Finding Nemo streaming on the Roku or Ipad got me through the terrible 2s relatively unscathed.

Start by shopping local. Instead of staying home and watching disney, go watch a live local band. Pretend none of this shit exists. But we won't.

Same!  I'm stuck between being pissed at Disney and pissing off Verizon, who has been trying to entice me to switch plans for years to get me off Disney/ESPN/Hulu.

Everybody can still go to the game. You just can't watch at home.
Great idea! Everyone who thinks we shouldn't give money to ABC/Disney/ESPN should buy game tickets for us poors so we can join you in the boycott. I mean, if you REALLY care that much about it...

I'll need 4 for every home and away game, btw, including travel costs, hotels, meals, etc.

Well, you could avoid going through any legitimate Disney/ABC/ESPN channel.  Have your cake and eat it too.
This is hilarious. Getting a pirated feed means that SOMEBODY out there is giving money to them so you can watch, which means you watching is helping them get money. You're still seeing their ads, which is where most of their money comes from. Way to go! You showed them!

How long til Kimmel & Colbert get together and start a podcast? Then when the Daily Show gets the inevitable ax from supersensitive Trump, the TDS crew can join them as well.

For anyone who cancelled their Disney products, I do have one extra for Saturday that I can give someone at zero cost. Maybe just buy the first round of beers?

BWAHAHAHAHA... if they were still making money off pirated feeds then they wouldn't be so hellbent on shutting down every pirated feed they can find.

They make their money off ad revenue. If you're watching the ad, then it worked.

ABC only cares about shutting down the streams because of the NCAA or conference copyrights. Just like the NFL is getting them shut down. I doubt the networks care that much about a feed that can be picked up for free with an antenna.

That's the only answer.  Even if 1% of its subscriber base canceled Disney+--and that would be a metric fuckton of people--that's a tiny price to pay for Disney to remain in the regime's good graces.

If, however, the talent refuses to produce the content, that's a gamechanger.  Nobody pays for Disney+ for movies that came out 30 years ago.  It requires new content to command the fees they charge.  If the talent goes on strike, then Kimmel is back in a couple weeks.  If they don't, then I don't want to hear all their overdramatic speeches at the Oscars about how democracy is at risk.
