Shockingly reasonable take from Rep Dunwell.  Good for him.

I ran through what he said and this stands out to me because it is much the same way I feel about not imposing my faith on others as well as about the mixing of government and religion. This should be how actual Christians or people of various other faiths view the mixing of the two.

Quote

My faith is never imposed upon others, nor should it ever become a direct part of government. It is always a response to the person and work of Jesus Christ. I don’t want to mix the kingdoms! Government is a poor arbitrator of religion.

The danger of course is that the MAGATs and fascists and christian nationalists are too stupid to realize that they are getting trolled, and will actually implement such plans if they take power.

I thought that too early on.  But according to sources close to him, he's been espousing this shit since high school radio days.  I mean, we were all trying to be edgy somehow at 17...but it seems like he was into this shit from the word "go", ten years ago.  Now obviously we see people monetizing the hate and ignorance and he's certainly no exception.  He's just clever enough to see the opportunity.  But it does seem from folks that knew him that this is his personal and honest worldview (with some hyperbole peppered on for cash).  It's an obvious grift, though one that apparently comes from a place of sincerity in his case.

Also, his mustache cracks me up.

Just remember when American right wingers dare raise the "hey leftists, you need to stand up against anti-semitism!" bullshit, THIS IS THEIR DREAM POLITICAL IDEOLOGY.  Lectures from fucking nazis on anti-semitism should never, ever, ever be listened to.  Not even for a millisecond.

I was talking with a coworker about this yesterday.  Really smart dude.  PhD from Northwestern.  I listen to him.  He had the same impression I did -- how in the blue hell did Jews, who (at least in America) are typically liberal Democrats, become the political darlings of the far right?  Did the Holocaust not happen?  (Don't answer that.)

It seems it's mostly a "look the other way" angle because of the imaginary Rapture, and we hate those brown Mooslims more, or some such.  Fucking bizarre.

I think of a bit from Eddie Izzard about the word "herbs" and how we pronounce it differently than the Brits, because "there's a fucking H in it."  But he jokes about the language crafters saying, "we should put an 'H' at the beginning in case of any incidents."  Satan is just that, it's just a placeholder,  They put it in the story in case they needed a fall guy or a bad wrestling heel later on to fall from grace in case of any accidents.  Guy gets like two dozen mentions in the bible, like #83 on the imdb credits and he's suddenly to blame for all of mankind's woes and sins?  Granted he gets a lotta shout-outs in church and the entertainment sector, but he's barely worth mentioning in the New Testament.

At Thanksgiving Mass, my MiL commented on how the priest talked a lot about Satan and how she thinks he's  all around us and we'd better watch out and all that.  And one of my wife's BiL's chimed in with "Remember in the Usual Suspects when Soze said the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.'  And they yammered about it.  But it got me to thinking, actually Satan's greatest trick is remaining relevant thousands of years after he was an understudy in a rather boring play.  The guy has totally moved on to other projects by now.  But every generation, whether it's rock music or gay marriage, some movement has to make him relevant again and he's like a Kardashian, famous for being famous.  He's probably yelling, "I don't have the back office or logistics team for this right now, just leave me alone!  You guys do you, I'm not even angry with God anymore.  We both have completely different booking circuits right now."  He's not even involved with warfare anymore, those are mainly driven by Abrahamic faiths.  He's mostly just doing some soft-core porn and management consulting.

To the extent Satan is the same as the serpent of Eden, he is the real hero of the story. Evil, in the form of an oppressive deity demanding ignorance, shame, and submissiveness, prevailed.

I have a feeling somebody told him in Polish, "You're offending the Polish Jews!"

And he said, "I don't see any Jewish Poles around here complaining."

Yeah, here's the thing asshole.  Collaborators like you made sure they all died generations ago!

csb/ Grandpa was on USN shore leave during the liberation of Eastern Europe in Spring of 1945.  I think Gdansk.  They're rolling through town and allied troops are clearing the city.  They notice some local Poles are dragging out men from their homes and beating them.  They are told to hang back and not intervene, it was between the Poles.  They imprisoned, beat, and even killed some of those men because they enabled the Nazis to identify and liquidate the Jews from their population.  Funny how those parallels run true to this day, even in our country.  When the insurrectionists in office are finally defeated, they won't be killed.  Because they have to stand trial and turn on one another to provide evidence.  But their underlings?  Their collaborators?  The small-time bit players?  Well, they're the first to die because they have nothing with which to bargain.  Remember I warned you of that.  There is no shortage of meat hooks on which to hang enemies of the state.

And 1968 / 1988 worked out just great for Dems, right?

It’s some real pretzel-like logic. You almost just have to stand there and mock/laugh in the face of people who follow this line of thinking. I have found that people who have the most hatred of Muslims are those that have spent zero time around anyone from that faith and rely on our good old propaganda network to give them their opinions of these fine folks.

There's a substantial intervening event which happened in 1968 that I think bears some consideration.

Lesser evil than “dirty” Arabs, I guess. Once push comes to shove, though, the GOP will discriminate against Jews just as easily as any other minority or ethnic group.

This is like selling relics from the Holy Land to peasants in Swabia or some shit. Lol.

At least the peasants believed the relics might have really been worn by a saint instead of knowing that it once touched Trump. Maybe one of his thundering farts, the best farts, so smelly you can’t believe it, filtered through this fabric!

Don't you fucking back-talk me you sassy bitch.

It's a Marriott property.  They are contractually bound to 2 different food service vendors for their Southwest properties.  Between those two vendors, there are just three distribution centers within the great Phoenix MSA area for Marriott catering.  Over 3 days with that many attendees, it's just a matrix of likelihoods.  Find a couple drivers or dockhands with drinking or drug problems, boom...tainted supply chain.  This isn't that hard, this is how we used to off bad guys.  But now you guys with your fucking unions and "we don't wanna stoop to their level" bullshits.  Am I honestly the only person on this website that's gamed this out?  It is beyond easy and I say this as someone who helps run a company that ships a huge chunk of groceries to the world's largest supermarket chain.

Don't get me wrong, Satan can totally be an asshole and God kinda redeemed himself with that whole savior/messianic gesture.  But of the 7 plagues that literally wiped out humanity, remind me how many were instigated by Satan?

Even during the Great Floods, I picture Satan as Martin Short in that SNL sketch about men's synchronized swimming, "It gives me time, because you know...I'm not that strong.....of a swimmer."
