FWIW, a quick check of the Georgia message boards shows that they are aren’t happy with this development at all. Most of them think he was great when he was on staff and hoped he would end up back there after his breather.

Anyone have any idea why he moved back to analyst from DC?

I have no idea why else Bobby would post that

this.  Bobby Burton is very connected and he's not randomly posting things for clicks.  that doesn't mean it's a lock, but my guess it's much more realistic than people on this thread believe it is.

Defense was not the problem except against Georgia. The defense held up against Oklahoma when the offense stalled against OU's defense.

Everybody’s defense has held up against OU this year

Apologies if I’ve missed, but any reason this needed to happen before the bowl game?  Who will be the DC for that one?

If he’s in town that gives muschamp some early practice time with the players.

One thing I will say, I'm looking forward to seeing how Muschamp will scheme to use Collin Simmons.  Anyone remember Sergio Kindle's junior year?

I was there in the endzone behind the QB. That was a MASSIVE hit.

Brackens hit on the Tech punter was heard throughout the stadium.

We heard the pads pop on the Sergio hit.

But the crowd was going crazy before the play. It went BEZERK when Kindle knocked his head off. 😝

I'm stoked about this move.  Going to absolutely love seeing COACH BOOM up and down our sidelines, firing up MFers to go out there and wreck shit.

I'll reserve judgment about the offensive side of things until I see how things play out.  Pulling Juluke from Florida to coach RBs feels like a slam dunk hire, too.  I have a feeling there are more changes coming, particularly when it comes to OL.

It seems to be our style of doing business to keep a lid on things until the change is made.  That happened when CDC fired Herman and brought in Sark.  That happened today with PK and Muschamp.  If we're moving on from Flood, that won't be announced until whomever is replacing Flood is already in the boat.

Keep the faith.  🤘

I like the hire. Muschamp is always been successful as a DC so hope he still has it and brings a lot of that fire he has on the sideline.

Yeah, with regards to <your pet coaching change here>, I would just view this move as evidence that we aren't content to stand pat with the hand we've had.  We realize changes need to be made in the staff to move to the next level.  That's good.

We're going to run into him again for sure. And it is going to be a motherfucker when it happens.

Not if PK continues playing the corners 12 yards off in the first half and Sark realizes he's allowed to run pass plays between the LOS and 10 yards out.

Was definitely surprised to see this.

So, with all the talk about why he was fired instead of "mutual parting", I was thinking it might've gone down like this:

Sark is looking at all areas that need fixing. One of those areas (and not the greatest need) is defense, especially vs Georgia. He finds out Boom is available and interested, which is definitely an upgrade. Calls in PK - who wasn't terrible but has some weaknesses - and tells him he's going to hire Boom as Co-DC with playcalling responsibilities and wants PK to stay as co-DC but step down to position coach, but gives PK the opportunity to voluntarily step down and announce he's leaving for other opportunities, family, health, whatever. But PK isn't interested in being #2 on defense, or isn't willing to walk away quietly, and basically tells Sark (or CDC), "Fuck you. If you want me gone, you'll have to fire me." And so he's been fired.

Probably more plausible than anything performance related. Maybe slightly less probable than personality conflict.

Let's pause for a second and look at this rationally. Our defense was piss poor in every game after the Kentucky game (and was bad against Florida too). They regressed as the season went on. Once our offense started picking up, they started to slack and the drop off was noticable. We really only looked good against aggy in the back half of the season. I am not surprised at all to see this move. I wouldve been fine with him getting another year but this is a move to make us better and will pay dividends as soon as next year. Maybe Sark was tired of stupid fucking penalties extending drives for the defense and felt more discipline was needed. Whatever he's looking for, Muschamp will bring it and I am in support of that move.

The rational move would be to make a change with position coaches in the back end and not fire an established, top tier DC. Regardless, I very much doubt Sark went into the offseason looking to replace PK. The idea that he was on the hot seat or a firing was justifiable based on performance alone is silly. Seems pretty clear Sark's hand was forced. Sometimes things that are less than ideal happen. Again, don't need to rationalize it into a slam dunk. I think he's made as good a move as he can in the circumstances and we'll see how it goes, but it won't be without challenges.

Stupid penalties? You serious? No amount of stupid penalties seems to satisfy Sark on offense. It's been a constant pursuit to accumulate as many as possible on that side of the ball since he's been here. If he's tired of them, the low hanging fruit is replacing the OC.

I don't know how long is left on his contract, but in that situation, I'm getting fired versus quitting with no prospects.  I'm going full body-suit man with the National Championship trophy if I have to.

Plus, this way, he can collect unemployment.

But the D wasn’t the problem this year.

We let DJ Lagway and Blake Shapen rip us new assholes. DJ Lagway threw 5 interceptions the game before we played him, was mentally in the toilet and was seeing ghosts, and the gameplan we came up with was to have Colin Simmons spy him while we had the other edge do a containment rush out of fear he would run on us.

Cutter Boley nickel and dimed us up and down the field.

Some true freshman named KJ Jackson came off the bench for Arkansas and proceeded to throw for 200 yards in a half.

We had the worst pass defense in school history 2 season ago and followed it up this year with more embarrassing pass defense.

He made $2 million as a defensive COORDINATOR and all we heard for 5 years is that he needed some special position coach in order to tie the back end with the front end. Elite defensive coordinators don't require that.

If Tom Brady is available and you have Tony Romo, are you making the move? I am. It also simultaneously weakens our biggest rival. This was a big move. A smart move.

If Tom Brady hasn't taken a snap for two years and Tony Romo has led his unit to to four straight top 13 defensive FEI seasons, probably not unless Romo makes me think he's gonna walk and I need to be making calls to potential replacements.

I'm not saying it was a bad move - I think it's the best hire Sark could have made. I just think folks should be real about where it's coming from and the challenges associated with it.

Muschamp was an analyst. Smart and Schumann know a thing or two about defense. This isn't gonna have a material impact on Georgia's defense.
