Tech really is Sand Aggy. And we recruit against them. Honestly, this whole state can juggle my burnt orange nuts.

These teams suck. Texas would beat both. Neither is a serious contender.

Who had the win???? 🤣

BYU and they won by the incredible 3 points.

Only reason Tech got this far this year is their joke of a schedule

That murderous row of AR Pine Bluff, Kent State and Oregon State scare you to death.

Yeah, to be serious for a moment, that has got to be a narrative going forward. Have never found the gap in CFB between the reg and the postseason the least bit appropriate, and that needs fixing. No more horse shit about student athletes and finals. If that’s truly a thing, start the season earlier. No one really cares for most of those 1st month non-con games anyway. Play them in August

nobody cares about non conference period, they dont matter. playing Kent St and Arkansas pine bluff gets you in over losing a close one to then #2 Ohio St

The stat is 1-8 in the CFP. TCU beat Michigan. OU never won a CFP game. We lost to UW, ASU lost to us and Tech lost to Oregon

Oregon had the best draw of the playoffs when the bracket was revealed. JMU and a terrible 4 seed? Indiana gets always dangerous alabama?

They're not that dangerous

Oops, they actually won by 4. Beat Georgia Tech.

of all of the 6-12 teams...name 1 program you wouldnt want to face in the playoffs? Yea im not playing alabama in case they get hot

Oklahoma, aggy and now Tech are all winless in the playoffs. Happy fucking New Year indeed! What a great day to be a Texas Longhorn!

TCU still has more CFP wins than ou and aggy and tech. Texas has more than all 4

Giving an auto bid to a conference full off teams that no other league wanted is idiotic. Just look at the recruiting classes of the Big 12 teams and how they compare to the SEC and B1G.

haha historically not a single team wants to line up against alabama in the bracket.

Let’s stop with the Tech is legitimate bullshit. They played 2 teams with NFL Draft prospects and they lost both games.

Exactly. They go 4-4 in the SEC. Maybe.

Tech spent all that money for 0 points in a playoff game

I think everyone is being a bit harsh on Tech. If they had just a bit better offense, they would have only lost 16-7.

Btw think I found a spy. Conor Stallions wishes he thought to disguise himself as a member of the chain gang.

Nah fuck that. Killer instinct coaches are elite. Sark should take notes on that aspect and so should have Mack during his era. Score every and anytime you have the opportunity

I didn't say don't score. I said run the fucking play instead of calling a timeout & prolonging the misery being inflicted on viewers. My issue was with calling a timeout.

Huh? it's going from 12 to 16.

my bad I thought you were saying it needed to go to fewer than 12.

How bad must big 12 had been this season for Tech to have just one loss in that league! This stupid playoff system is ruining college football.

So SMU is still the only other Texas team to score a touchdown in the College Football Playoff? And that was garbage time to bring the score to 38-10 in the 4th.

1. I'm not sure I have ever seen a more valiant effort in a dismal team loss than the Tech Defense. The talent on this team was special and they showed why today. It will be remarkable if Tech ever has a squad like this again.
2. Coach Joey McGuire ain't the guy. I've said it since he got here. He talks a lot. Tech did win the Big XII, but then pissed down its leg today. On 2 facets of the ballgame, your squad stunk over & over. On defense, the talent was just badass.
3. Call an offense beyond 7th grade level alignments and virtually zero misdirection or shallow passing routes. All Oregon had to do is read, react, tackle. Nothing Tech did on offense remotely put them on their heels.
4. Special teams mistakes- Lanning is known for going for it on 4th down. The fake punt in the 1st H was inexcusable. The offsides on 4th & 2 in the 2nd half was just pure stupidity and lack of discipline.
5. Behren Morton might have grown up in Lubbock and was a highly rated recruit at QB. He is average at very best, and today was terrible. He doesn't challenge the defense with his arm and is a huge liability. Said it last season and this one. Nothing improved. Comment #3 did Morton no favors.

It was a fun season, but thought the coaching would take over in the playoffs. Tech's defensive talent kept in a game that should have been a blowout. Next season should be interesting, but I doubt we'll ever have a dominant defense like this one again. It was special.

Wreck Em!!!

So fire your coach and cut your QB?

It is not the playoff system. it is the committee. They have created this with their execution of the system and selection.

Some of it is the system. Stop giving auto bids to weak conference champs who didn't play anyone outside of their shitty conference.

1 hour ago, Valmy77 said:

This is just bullshit. The G5 have produced a few good teams that have beaten top p4 teams in the past and plenty of those March Madness matchups are 60 point blowouts. This is a take not based on history or logic but just feelings based on the current thing that just happened. Stop being so reactionary.

First off, I never said "no blowouts in basketball" or "no good G5 teams in football," so you're arguing against your own strawman

Basketball and football are different sports. In basketball, an Appalachian State (or equivalent) beats an ACC or Big 10 team EVERY single week of every season (until conference games start, obviously).

Why? Because in basketball, you can play eight guys and be very competitive.

And the structure of the playoff is completely different In basketball, fans can fill up half a 16,000-seat arena and watch their underdog team play two games in a weekend (if they're lucky). Travel for football playoffs is way harder, even for fans of blue blood programs (I've been lucky enough to go to all our playoff games, but it wasn't easy).

So it's a totally different sport to attend in-person, and it's totally different for TV viewers as well. The blowouts in the first round of March madness are highly mitigated by the fact that there are 15(!!!!) other games on that day. Football doesn't work like that

Advocating for Cinderellas in post-season football just gives the fans lame, wasted afternoons where the camera crews strategically avoid showing mostly empty stadiums.

And I'm not even advocating for a bigger or smaller playoff field. That's a separate argument. I just want a product worth watching.

These are facts, and they're not a "reaction" to anything.

It's not a reaction of mine limited to this game. The QB graduates and there is talent coming at the position.

Fire the Coach? Not my decision, but he got his ass abused today by Lanning. He got abused by an undermanned Dillingham during Big 12 play.. Sitake didn't have the horses to challenge. Go from there. Call me demanding, but I need more than a front man at HC in college football, and if he's not just a front man, his worked sucked ass on 2 facets of the game today when the lights shined brightest.

22 minutes ago, MNLonghornFUKM said:

it doesnt matter what they do. They'll get their shit kicked

Maybe so, but I keep thinking about something Sonny said after TCU got destroyed in the title game by UGA.

He mentioned that he was going to go back and look at how the TCU program was built because things weren't set up to be successful in that type of situation. Many immediately applied what he said to the game and the game alone, but what he meant was not just the level of competition, but the demands on the program in all aspects to truly compete with a program like UGA that has been there multiple times

I am not convinced Sonny is the guy to truly implement those things nor as the financial backing to make it more than a plan.

Joey going against Lanning today was very similar than Sonny versus Kirby and anyone who believes one bit of the bullshit Tessitore and Palmer were spinning about how UO have to focus on JMU last week instead of allocating resources to prep for Tech is way off base.

Lanning learned under Kirby and then has suffered his own growing pains at Oregon. Fully realize this is a Texas board so talking shit about Tech and the Big 12 is the norm, but I am curious to see how Tech responds. They have the funding, Joey has shown he is willing to replace staff, but did he learn from today and does he understand the changes that are needed to compete. Simply spending money on recruits like that OT aren't going to get this offense where it needs to go, but feel free to disregard and scoff.

If they insist on having automatic bids they need 24 teams. That will mean a lot of shitty first round games but will ensure all the worthy teams are in

where's the point and laugh at - Texas Tech/Joey McGuire thread? lol

As far as the playoff goes, ol JW would put the BCS computer system in charge of the top 12 teams/seeding.

The QB did not fix things today
