Seems like full on autarky coming.  It's because of the planned nukes.  I am on the ledge now.

The time for nukes has long passed.  All it will do is get the West in to destroy Russians in Ukraine, and get China off the fence.  Hell, the aluminum supply issues created by Russia's invasion has got to be pissing off the Chinese.

Putin is making sure everybody that counts in Russia relies on him as he tries to run out the clock and get some kind of "victory" that he can sell to the serfs back home.  If he's holding the "independent" regions come May 9th, he could easily try to sue for peace at that point.

They need the artillery support soon.  Shelling Russian positions and towns in retaliation is necessary.   I am guessing the russians just set up their artillery and leave it in the same spot.    Maybe they can get some of those German self-propelled units donated if they are as good as advertised.

We are sending them even more artillery beyond what is in the latest $80 million package.  They've obviously got trained crews and great UAV coverage.

I was looking at my old MOS, and UAVs would be a part of it now, and came across this exercise from last December that was obviously a NATO exercise, but look who was also in the mix.

I wonder how long they can hold out.

If it comes to that, I don't see the average conscript or TikTok warrior excited about that prospect. If they have to fight in those tunnels, there are going to be a lot of dead Russians in that natural chokepoint/funnel.

True Cossack sighting.

Strongly worded letter heroes.

Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!

O sultan, Turkish devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight art thou, that canst not slay a hedgehog with thy naked arse? The devil shits, and thy army eats. Thou shalt not, thou son of a whore, make subjects of Christian sons. We have no fear of thy army; by land and by sea we will battle with thee. Fuck thy mother.

Thou Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, pig of Armenia, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow. Screw thy own mother!

So the Zaporozhians declare, thou lowlife. Thou wouldst not even be herding pigs for the Christians. Now we'll conclude, for we don't know the date and don't own a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year with the Lord. The day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!

"Ukraine Will Win"

https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/u76ryh/ukraine_will_win_catchy_new_viral_hit_to_rally/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

[Chorus]

--

The enemy equipment is burning in flames,

Our dear Ukraine will win!

Burning in flames, ignite more

Russian ship, go -- hey, hey!

--

[Verse 1]

--

Invader tank was going

To his inevitable fate

Its top got blown off

By a Stugna, for Bucha!

--

Invader flew on a MiG-35,

For the Ghost of Kyiv he

must've become number 20.

--

[Chorus]

--

The enemy equipment is burning in flames,

Our dear Ukraine will win!

Burning in flames, ignite more

Russian ship, go -- hey, hey!

--

[Verse 2]

--

Sails over there the invader,

Stopping somewhere in Berdyansk,

Now the enemy paratroopers

Feed rapans there.

--

Also, I need to tell you

About the tractor army

Because everything that's in the wrong place

Should instead stand next to the house.

--

[Chorus]

--

The enemy equipment is burning in flames,

Our dear Ukraine will win!

Burning in flames, ignite more

Russian ship, go -- hey, hey!

--

[Verse 3]

--

Chornobaivka is the enemy's

Portal to the other world

Regularly all things flying

End their flight there.

--

Also the enemy is scared

By our bio-warriors

From the geese, chicken, and pigeons

They scatter in all directions.

--

[Chorus]

--

The enemy equipment is burning in flames,

Our dear Ukraine will win!

Burning in flames, ignite more

Russian ship, go -- hey, hey!

I'm going to guess that the aid was already delivered and well inside of Ukraine by the time this was posted, because that seems to be the trend (and good OPSEC).

And we are sending more, and it's sound like it's even more tailored to what the Ukrainians want and/or will need for the upcoming battles.  Lots of artillery pieces and plenty of ammo for existing artillery must be making the Russians nervous.

According to the available updated information, the losses of the 126th Coast Guard Brigade of the Black Sea Fleet are up to 75%. The 810th Independent Brigade of the Black Sea Fleet lost 158 servicemen killed, about 500 wounded, and 70 people are missing.
A significant number of servicemen of these brigades wrote reports refusing to participate in the so-called "special operation".
In the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, Ukraine's defenders repulsed seven enemy attacks, destroyed ten tanks, eighteen armored units and eight vehicles, one artillery system, and an enemy mortar.
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has hit seven air targets the day before: one plane, four UAVs and two cruise missiles.

The way yall "not-so-humblebrag," I'd venture to say that yall are also from Dallas.

If you think being Plan II is worth bragging about...

Nobody outside of the state even knows what Plan II is.

I'm not even sure anyone outside of the UT community knows what it is.

And as any Plan II alumnus can tell ya... we're a bunch of sad losers. All of us.

Now, accusing me of being from Dallas? That's an insult.

Holy shit.  If Google translate is correct, this is the greatest war song ever written, even better than The Battle of New Orleans by Jimmy Driftwood (although y'all have heard Johnny Horton sing it).  @RDCanecutter and others will appreciate the lyrics.

ARTA

A Muscovite was walking through the woods
I was looking for an adventure
The sun shone from the sky
Beautiful pagoda!
Suddenly it rang
And the earth trembled
The ingot arrived
The young Muscovite

And there is no Muscovite
There is no Muscovite
No shit at all
The raw earth itself
Artillery is working
The boys are fucking
One katsap less
And the second shit in his pants

A Muscovite is sitting in a trench
And holds a kalash
In the pins of his body
And in the pocket of Anasha
Suddenly it rang
And the field arose
The earth has digested
A young Muscovite

And there is no Muscovite
There is no Muscovite
No shit at all
The raw earth itself
Artillery is working
The boys are fucking
One katsap less
And the second shit in his pants

Pre column of equipment
Pskov paratroopers
And sat down in the bushes
Gereushna agency
Suddenly it rang
And the diesel was silenced
Beat the landing
The cowards burned down

And there is no Muscovite
There is no Muscovite
No shit at all
The raw earth itself
Artillery is working
The boys are fucking
One katsap less
And the second shit in his pants

There was a grove of katsapsky
Mortar unit
Fuckers are happy
There is a permit for rotation
Suddenly it rang
And life ended
And at the same time health
Fighting Muscovite

And there is no Muscovite
There is no Muscovite
No shit at all
The raw earth itself
Artillery is working
The boys are fucking
One katsap less
And the second shit in his pants

And there is no Muscovite
There is no Muscovite
No shit at all
The raw earth itself
Artillery is working
The boys are fucking
One katsap less
And the second shit in his pants

This is the song and it’s badass. My one quibble is that apparently there aren’t any Muscovites dying in Ukraine, Putin sent Chechens and Buriyats.

How do UAVs get integrated throughout the military?  Are the bigger ones (Predator) strictly for the AF, but the smaller ones get integrated into artillery, infantry, special forces and to some extent the Navy/Coast Guard?

All branches use drones of varying types and design.  I believe you are correct that the AF uses the larger, higher altitude endurance types, but they all have them.  Even the Coasties have their own that they use.  Heard the AF is even looking at massive, remote operated "tanker" drones.  In terms of dedicated pilots, I'd think the AF has the most pilots.

Oh God.

You're Plan II.

This explains so much.

I will fight you.  Let's get together at Quack's and argue about who had tougher seminar classes as we sip coffee and pose like french intellectuals.

Also, I totally mailed in my Plan II Thesis.  It started with a big idea, but it ended as most of my undergrad projects did: reaching levels of mere adequacy produced by laziness and a preference for the diversion of beer and girls.

(Note: I did do the "Quack's intellectual" move from time to time, but only if I thought it might impress a girl.  Note 2: It usually didn't.)

Oh, I'll DEFINITELY fight you.  Although I confess that coming to UT from Houston, I spent a couple of years thinking that a big-haired blonde sorority girl from Dallas was the ideal, and wasting my time chasing them.  I gained a bit of wisdom that persuaded me otherwise before it was too late.

I bet a good number of the officers are Muscovites.  And the UA is killing those at a solid clip.  Which I like.
