Abbott being Abbott

I can't imagine that anyone with integrity or character would even accept an endorsement from Trump. An infamous liar and demagogue, twice impeached, who urged on a mob to subvert the U.S. Constitution and the democratic process. A man with no humility, compassion, or even loyalty to anyone besides himself. If you separated Trump from his wealth and power, and he had to be judged solely on his character, would anyone even want to be his friend?

You're thinking of regular people. In Texas (and Oklahoma and the rest of the fucking south) integrity and character mean whatever the backwoods redneck idiots want it to be, which is republican, fake christian, fake wealthy, and a complete piece of shit. Abbott will indeed win in a landslide in part because of his trump love, because the majority of your (and our) voters eat it up. Because they are soulless pieces of human garbage.

Okay wtf?  West was taking public potshots at Abbott, even protesting at Abbott’s mansion, Abbott gets Trump’s endorsement and West bails, leaving West without a platform?

Something is fishy.

Sounds like he's on to the next Rep governor/senator/congressperson who isn't sucking enough orange micropeen.

Texas GOP Chairman or whatever was the best platform he had outside of running for public office.  It was a high-profile platform.

I saw a comment that Abbott was going to try and get him removed somehow, and maybe he resigned to avoid giving Abbott that victory, but that didn’t make sense.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is kind of a cool, driving zen road to take if it fits your itenerary. Somewhere along there is the place where Lewis or Clark died. The parkway runs from mid Tennesse down into Louisiana. When I took it ten years ago while driving to the Northeast, it was a lightly traveled road designed to be pleasant if not nearly breathtaking.

I'm not a Civil War buff, too sad in so many ways, but I wanted to see the cliffs of Vicksburg. My low opinion of Mississippi was lowered again. Stunning, historical location. Now? Cluttered with a couple of ugly, cheap looking casinos. I'm glad I went, but I wish I'd known in advance how the site had been ruined.

We did part of the Trace coming into Jackson.   Did it at dusk and it got a little eerie by the time it was full on dark.  But it was definitely a serene drive with a ton of wildlife and few signs of civilization.  So far we've made the Civil Rights Museum of Mississippi, the Miss. Museum of Forestry and Agriculture and the Smith Robertson Museum in Jackson.    Yesterday was the Hank Williams museum, the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice.  Stopped at Tuskegee, but the museum was closed unfortunately.

Where do Miller, West, and Huffhines go from here?  They were all jockeying for Trump's support, and they lost it.

Miller has to tread carefully now that he put himself in Abbott's crosshairs.

West had better be careful how he leads the state GOP, because if he says any more bad stuff about Abbott, he'll be speaking out against Trump's preferred candidate.

Huffhines is finished.

Really did not see Abbott getting Trump's approval, but maybe his support for Trump after last November did it.

He promised to support Trump's coup in August.

What’s to keep Trump from retracting his endorsement on a whim?

Trump is a waffling lunatic.   I can definitely see him doing something like this.

They’re solving lots of problems! Not enough guns on the street - fixed. Too much regulation preventing Karens from shooting their kids while riding bikes - fixed.

I agree with this...if it sticks.

I can’t decide if it’s cowardice or self-awareness on the part of Abbott.  I don’t really see the end game here-you do two-three terms as governor and then what?  He ain’t doing Dancing with the Stars....

It's cowardice.  Abbott is a smart dude, he knows exactly what he's doing most if not all the time.  Which makes it all the more infuriating.

Something is fishy.

It's all performance.  Branding.  Emotional "virtue signaling."  Solutions and ideas are out of style and doesn't do shit for you in the eyes of dullards on Facebook.  The hard political currency isn't derived from who you've helped but who you've pissed off and harmed.  And millions are waiting to reward you for who you've harmed, even when they're part of the cross section getting hurt.  Railing against Abbott doesn't have to make sense, like stripping Liz Cheney from all committee power.  Making sense is an antiquated notion.

If Abbott is a little too shy to attend a Q conference, then you become a featured speaker on top of the Q conference bill.  It's just a way to get noticed -- a method for floating to the top of the same Dumb Stew.  It doesn't seem to matter if you're all in the same pot.  You just want to be bobbing around close to the top part of the pot.

People forget Allen West went for James Dickey’s job, railed on him for trying to do a virtual convention, won the job in a hostile takeover, and then asked Dickey to show him what he actually needed to do for the job that he said he could do better than him.

it’s a sad day. He had zero interest growing the party. I hope Dickey shows a backbone and doesn’t go back.

No it's not.

Fuck the TRP.  Fuck those Trump loving, minority hating, gun worshipping, voter suppression mother fuckers that haven't yet turned Texas into Saudi Arabia because of the blue cities, though they are sure trying.

I hope the TRP implodes from all the drama.

I was the first member of my family to be born in Texas, I love Texas, I went to UT, but god damnit, this state deserves all the stupid backstabbing political drama it's getting because they can't stop voting for stupid.  Texas Exceptionalism might be ten times worse than American Exceptionalism.

I wanted to watch the RPT burn due to the nuttery. I wanted infighting between the two factions. I wanted an incompetent leader who wants grassroots support without actually doing anything to raise their numbers. It’s a sad day for me cause West was the best chance of Republicans doing nothing to grow.

West's replacement is likely to be just as bad as West, because TRP has gone all fucking in on the crazy.

The infighting will continue.  Not just the TRP but the Patrick-Phelan fight in the lege for 2 special sessions.  Not to mention the TRP not supporting SB7 because someone slipped in that the TRP chair has to be chosen by the voters.  They did NOT like that.

TRP infighting for control of the state
Patrick-Phelan in the lege
Bush-Paxton for AG
Miller-Huffines-Abbott in the Gov race (it's still gonna get ugly, even with Trump weighing in)

So Justice Guzman just resigned from SCOTX.  Speculation is that she might be running for some other statewide office.

I hope it's Lt. Gov.  Jeff Rose gonna kick himself for not sticking around longer to wait out that seat.

Weird. I wonder what?

Gov - nah

LG - no way she can touch Patrick, he's arguably a bigger name than Abbott and I'd say 96% of the people who vote for Guzman don't know her, they just see the (R) under SCOTX on the ballot

AG - already a big contentious primary

Land Commissioner - I guess?

Buckhingham has the party blessing for GLO, it's hers.  Guzman is either freeing herself up for Lt. Gov. primary or a bipartisan nomination to a federal district court seat.

I actually think she's going for Railroad Commission based on one drunken rambling from a cat who'd know.

SCOTX to RRC? Ok, I guess. Doesn’t seem like a move up. One invisible office to another.

She wants more money. 4 years on RRC, she can go private.

Just one drunken tidbit from a guy who'd know out West.  We'll see.  Unless she knows about a new district being drawn that would favor her for U.S. Congress but she likes being in Texas full time.
