If they can pull off beating Miami next weekend they are in great shape going into conference play with that schedule. They’d have beaten three ranked teams in the Top 25 in a row. Should win their conference. They are legit and if they can beat Miami and win their conference they are one of my favorite “at large” teams to make the CFP.

And they would deserve it

Yup BooBoo.

Actually... first started with Bloody Marys.

Then margaritas at Mi Dia.

Then, whiskey at home.

LID OUT!

That final 90 seconds was the worst clock management I’ve ever seen. Florida sat on the time outs when they were still useful, with 80-90 seconds left, then finally started using them just to savor the agony, with like 25 seconds left. Even ignoring the rest of the game, Florida’s head coach is demonstrably among the dumbest minds in the game.

Gotcha. I couldn’t think of the right term. Thanks. I wonder if the Big 12 gets more teams in than SEC.

It didn't matter when they used the TOs the way the D kept giving up 1st downs.  They needed a quick stop or to give up a quicker score

During his post game presser, Napier basically argued that using the 2 timeouts would have yielded the same result, field goal attempt to end the game.

So he basically conceded the loss after USF picked up the first down with about a minute to play. If Lagway is your savior, you have to get him the ball back even if there’s only 20-30 seconds left.

I think he’s benefiting from a unique situation at UF where there’s a power vacuum. I think their Board of Regents would much prefer to hire a president first, and let the new guy or gal deal with Sunbelt Billy.

Andy Staples is in his feels right now. I’m sure a UF booster will grab him by the collar, and ask him to roll out a propaganda plan so it doesn’t completely kill recruiting.

You can give a lame duck coach a bigger NIL budget but it still ain’t gonna fix what’s happening on the headset.  Coaching still matters when talent is more evenly distributed

UF is gonna regret not firing him last year

Absolutely. I think they’re in buy more time until the new president arrives/keep recruiting respectable mode right now.

AZ state lost to Mississipi State and KSU lost to Army. I guess you could argue Tech and Utah depending how their records end up, but does Texh play anybody non-con?

I mean, IF the Big XII had any chance of getting two, I figure you'd have to argue ISU is one of those two for now.

USF is actually a quality opponent that others will realize this season.  They have DAWGS all across their lineup.

USF might be an above .500 team in the SEC.  IMO - them, UNLV, Tulane, and even TXST are in the looking glass of potential G5 playoff spot holders.

I’m not saying we lose to Florida but they remind me of texas when we sucked. We could 100% lose to anybody but we could also beat someone we shouldn’t. They did it last year. We should win though, they have 2 tough games before us.

The talent is there. They just continue to underachieve with Napier. Same mistakes, lack of discipline, and game management issues that cost them games his whole tenure. But if they put a game together, they can definitely be a spoiler for some teams.

Staples’ take is so weird. He’s performing the autopsy, but he’s telling the detectives it’s not that bad. He honestly thinks UF is a playcalling OC away. Napier agreed to relinquishing playcalling duties in 2024 as a condition to return in 2025, but they finished on a hot streak + power vacuum, and he reneged.

It sounds like the UF BOR is completely fucked with lots of infighting. Hence, failing to hire a president after 15 months. I guess Strickland’s extension gives him enough juice to fire Sunbelt Billy, but probably doesn’t have enough juice to raise money for a buyout + hiring a new staff.

We should all be thankful for the cohesion between the Texas BOR, President, and AD.

Napier is Charlie Strong 2.0. Guy is totally and completely lost running a big time program. It’s a real pleasure watching another school go through this. “Just a play caller away”. I bet Sterling Gilbert is tan, rested and ready!

he has to win 1 of their next 2 at redstick or at miami

he's gone if they don't, with a bye week to re-calibrate before we come to town

we could very well be facing an interim coach in his 1st game and a wounded animal foaming at the mouth in a road league night game

100% this. I would even say he's a better recruiter than Strong. I believe the highest ranked class Strong had was like #10 or something year year he was fired. I still have no idea why kids wanted to play for someone so incompetent. At least Napier has been in the top ten at #7 and #9.

If Strong were in the SEC, I guarantee you we wouldn't have won more than 3 games a season, he was that dumb. He was lost in the Big XII against scrubs.

i think you're probably right, but unless urban meyer decides to be interim i don't think there's a magic fix to be had here

Once again it is playing out that preseason predictions aren't worth shit.+

Iowa State does have a win over Iowa,  Utah beat UCLA and still has Wyoming, BYU beat Stanford and get ECU, and then TCU beat UNC with SMU still on the schedule.

None of those are a great non conference wins, but consider this outcome.

Utah wins out is out defeated so they have wins over a ranked at the time Tech and BYU with the two wins.

I don't think ISU plays Utah so if the winner of TCU and ISU goes undefeated then I think those two teams in the Big 12 title game would get an invite.

That still has to play out, but outside of THE Ohio State, Penn State, and Oregon who is that great in the Big 10 ?  Illinois and Indiana?

As far as the SEC there is a long way to go for some teams to address some issues.

There are a number of posters on their 247 site working actively to rationalize giving Meyer whatever he’d want to come back. Never mind it being a new era and his approach would need major recalibrating and the bag game is no longer an advantage.

The rest of his staff is generally unimpressive. The co-DC calling plays, Roberts, is a known buffoon.  He’s the most senior guy they might go to if Sun Belt Billy is shitcanned.

People have been dismissive of a 2nd Big 12 team making it but I agree with your points. The more irritating discussion to me is around the ACC just being assumed as getting in 2 teams. That league sucks. They should get their title winner and that’s it.

I doubt they go the G5 route again after SBB. Kiffin would probably be their top choice, but not sure he'd leave Ole Miss where they're happy going 9-3 every year. Maybe try to poach Drinkwitz from Mizzou.

Lane said no as recently as 2024, right? Good to hear you’d be OK with 99% of Florida fans’ first choice that UF probably can’t get.

I’d be OK with Sean McVay coaching the Longhorns.

Would you okay with Sydney Sweeney sliding into your bed, naked, every night as well? Dude already told you guys to pound sand on an alleged market-resetting offer.

Quick, name the most successful and legendary coach to ever coach at Florida. Name another!

Now try that with Ole Miss without being able to insert Kiffin’s name in the first or second slot.

Jonathan Odom accuses Billy Napier of treating players poorly, saying he faked concussion

Spoiler

A former Florida player under coach Billy Napier aired some dirty laundry on Saturday night. Former tight end Jonathan Odom took to Twitter following the program’s 18-16 upset loss to in-state foe USF.

Odom said Napier accused him of faking a concussion during his playing days at Florida. He also said that was just the tip of the iceberg.

The Twitter conversation started with a tweet from former Florida receiver Jacob Copeland. Copeland did not play for Napier, transferring to Maryland the year Napier arrived at Florida, in 2022.

“Napier is some (poop emoji),” Copeland wrote. Jonathan Odom quickly responded.

“Treated a lot of his players like it too,” Odom wrote. He would go on to expand quite a bit, offering some insight into the program from a former player’s perspective.

“Basically in 2023 while playing on half a leg, I got a concussion one (sic) this play…” Jonathan Odom wrote, attaching a clip to the tweet. “After I didn’t clear protocol after 2 weeks they called me in and accused me of faking it. That’s just the start of it.

“After I told my parents my dad (who is in the UF hall of fame) called him and confronted him and he said it was ‘just a motivation tactic.'”

Following Odom’s tweets, Copeland chimed back in on the conversation. He shed light on why he ultimately opted to transfer to Maryland, despite a strong affinity for the Florida program.

“People were mad I left…” Copeland wrote. “I didn’t want to leave. After my talk with [Billy Napier] I knew what it was.”

It wasn’t all negative from Odom, though. He singled out three people on the Florida staff that he would go to bat for in a heartbeat.

“Having said that they do have 3 goats on the staff (William peagler, frank ogas, paul silvestri),” Odom wrote. “Those guys are top tier.”

During his time with Florida, Jonathan Odom appeared in 25 games. He came away with 16 receptions for 144 yards and two touchdowns – both of which came during the 2022 campaign prior to his injury.

He later transferred to Eastern Michigan, but he did not play a game there. Odom announced his intention to sit out a year before re-entering the NCAA transfer portal.
