This guy gets it. Remember, they might have tried to overthrow the government and overturn free and fair elections and they are going to murder an FBI agent or two in the next few weeks, but the alternative is "SOCALISM!!! EHRMAGERD LIKE USSR AND THE NAZIS!!" That's worse to them, because they are morons and have been brainwashed to ignore what the left's positions actually are and what they are intended to accomplish. It's just "SOCIALISM" oh and the deficit that always falls under democrats and rises under republicans, but they are fully convinced it's the other way around, and that the federal budget is like your family checkbook. It's over guys, like conference realignmen, I just want to see what's next for us.

It's not overthrowing the government if its your team (R).   It's securing America's future by replacing certain elements from governance first.

The best case is that they have proof he was selling/trading classified documents to foreign countries.  That would shut up all but the most diehard trumpers.

This would be a worst case scenario. Best case is he just had shit that he really shouldn’t have and they ban him from office over jt.

Sorry, he was informed the New York times is not a legitimate NEWS source by people whose own network declares that their hosts are not legitimate or credible.

I can't claim credit for this idea because I saw it on a tv detective show. If I killed your dad, and you killed my stepdad, on separate days, and we had solid alibis for the murder of our own family member, for which we may be likely suspects, we'd totally get away with it.

NM I just remembered the ruse was discovered on the detective show and everyone got busted.

No, it needs to be a terrible crime because otherwise a whole lot of Republicans will just call it a witch hunt and move on.  If he was selling secret materials, only the crazies in Congress like MTG and Goetz will still defend him.

As you know, we can't let the threat of violence stop government function or law enforcement. Nixon was spared prosecution by pardon to spare him further humiliation and to allow the country to move on from Watergate not fear of violence.

Trump has employed violence already now largely endorsed by the criminal organization called the GOP. If we stand down in the face of that, we've just found a shamefully passive way to abandon the last shreds of the republic. We can choose to peacefully go on in a fascist honky-run banana republic watching our favorite shows on the TV, or we can pull the rock off this next of scorpions and see if we can survive the stings to restore an actual repubic.

Do we risk watering the tree of liberty or tamely choose not to risk our comfortable lives? I don't pretend it's an easy choice.

Trump is irreplaceable to his followers. They're not looking to follow DeSantis or any other GOP; they're addicted and enthralled to Donald Trump. If he's broken the law (he has), then bring him down through law enforcement. If some of his followers resort to terrorism (they will), apply law enforcement. If the tens of millions dedicated to Trump rise up for a civil war (they won't) invoke martial law and slaughter them.

An indictment won't be the cause of civil turmoil. The actual cause is the traitor Donald Trump who seized the reins of the hate engine and, necessarily, the GOP. Tear. Them. Down.

I don't disagree with any of that.

But, the armchair legal strategists think the DOJ is concerned with the "apperance," "political ramifications of," and turmoil caused by such an indictment.

I don't know how much that plays into their calculus, but I'm sure it does to some degree.

Either the armchair strategists are just wrong, and DOJ gives few or no fucks about search warrants and indictments as the evidence indicates.  Or, they're testing the waters a bit to see how bad it really is, and get an insight on how to "play it," or prevent vioence, or whatever arises.  The Fox/GQP/Trump reaction is entirely predictable.  Seeing who "wins" between that side of the country and the rest of us on the political ramifications may be an absolutely brilliant strategy.

The one thing you need to remember is that the GOP is an unethical, dishonest, and undemocratic party now. SO... UNDERSTAND. that when Dems do something rightful, moral and legal.  The Republicans will use the rightful, moral and legal actions by Democrats to justify their own dishonest, immoral and illegal actions.

This is where we are.  The GOP as a whole is a clear and present danger to American Democracy.  That a party I used to be a member of when Reagan was president has morphed into a party based on complete and total dishonesty on most every issue I can think of is horrifying to me.  The fact that they actually believe the lies instead of the truth means we have a large mob that can be convinced of anything, regardless of facts.  And that should fucking scare the shit out of every American true patrieot in this country.

Reagan was a less shitty than and Nixon, but Iran-Contra was a bunch of bullshit as was the war on drugs getting a 10x budget increase.  GHWB lied his ass off about crack being sold near the White House in order to push his bullshit escalations as well.   His son brought us Afghanistan and Iraq disasters.   This race to the bottom trajectory is consistent.

As Omar once said, "You come at the King, you best not miss."  They're only going to get one shot at Trumping being banned from running for national office.  It needs to be because of a devastating charge like selling state secrets.  Fox News will even struggle to spin something like that.

They have already spun his Russian collusion to interfere with an election, his big lie on the election he lost, and inciting an insurrection, among a hundred other things he's done, including denying covid was a problem and turning half the country against science and medicine. They can spin this just as easily because their audience is a bunch of morons. All the evidence will support his indictment and they'll spin it as political. I already saw batshit tweets about how the FBI planted evidence. There's nothing that will change anyone's minds at this point. I fully support locking his fat ass up forever because he's a criminal and deserves it, not because it will have any effect on elections. I also enjoy somewhat the schadenfreude of him finding out.

This.  There will be a lot more violence if they try to prosecute Trump and disqualify him from running again for a reason that doesn’t seem like an awful, awful crime that everyone but the craziest of his supporters would at least feel uneasy about trying to defend.  If it’s not something horrible like selling state secrets, a whole lot of people - not just Q Shaman guy and that ilk, but a sizable percentage of the seemingly normal population - will go fucking nuts.

Remember how the shaman cried like a little bitch when he ended up in jail, along with some of the other insurrectionists who were sentenced? They're a bunch of pussies. They'll do their violence of course, some of them will be imprisoned, but none of it will amount to anything really. The real problem here is the elected officials all spouting this bullshit right now. It's why I think this country's lifespan is just about at its end. When people who are elected are free to ignore facts and reasons, and are willing to continue denying the legitimacy of a free and fair election, democracy has failed.

Tone police routine also elderly

I understand both sides of this. Most politically unengaged people have the same take on this as the MAGA-brained, which is that there's no difference between Biden's DOJ and Mueller, Impeachment, J6 Committee, Clinton, etc. Whatever it is that's against Trump is "them," and "they" already tried and failed to hold him accountable for any of his obvious crimes.

The other side of the issue is that this "they" is actually a new "they" that doesn't deserve the baggage of the former "theys" failures.

Cautious optimism is warranted (pun intended) but I totally understand why someone would be pessimistic.

Definitely not an "either, or" situation. By obtaining a search warrant, the FBI had to show exigent circumstances which made it unlikely that a simple subpoena to obtain the materials searched for would have worked. And a judge had to sign off on that. If reports I've read this morning are correct, that judge was one appointed by Trump himself although of course they're now trying to smear that person. Further, Garland has shown nothing to indicate he's a political crony of the President, quite unlike every two-bit hack who occupied the office of the USAG under Trump.

There are multiple-ongoing investigations right now and what's happening in GA and could soon be happening in MI, shouldn't be overlooked.

Not from Biden's DOJ.

There's a list a mile long of criminal investigations against his political opponents that Trump tried to influence and/or called for when he occupied the White House.

I don’t think there is a single nice thing I could say about Biden to make you believe this isn’t true.  I don’t hate Biden, I hate that he’s exactly what I expected.  Elizabeth Warren will never be president and that’s okay, America will survive.

Well I guess we should just turn it into a 3rd world country with a Dictator and none of us will be able to question major statistical anomolies in elections at all?  And, you are right, this country is going into the shitter quickly....

There's a huge difference between questioning statistical anomolies and beating up police officers, breaking into the capitol, parading around like a maniac in a "shaman" costume, and then whining about it like a little bitch when you're brought to account for your actions.
