A story about a pathetic man's downfall

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told the Associated Press that she expects to come to a decision on whether her office will charge the former president by June 30 for allegedly attempting to overthrow the results in Georgia.

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-may-charged-trying-overthrow-election-end-month-1714783

It could be her not wanting it to get lost over the Holiday weekend if that’s possible given the case.

That quote is from January and she didn't even say June 30, she said first half of the year. It's a clickbait article by Newsweek.

Quote

"I certainly think that in the first half of the year that decision will be made," Willis said in January.

A DeSantis v Trump primary scenario could bring the jokes. Especially if it includes Trump saying the primary was rigged, like we he lost in Iowa w Ted Cruz.

One scenario is Trump runs until he cant, so he can continue to fundraise and self promote. Then the GOP has to save him or he’ll crash them (quicker than he is doing already).

I’m tired of the jokes, SNL isn’t that funny anymore anyway. I just want a life where politics cover mundane issues like healthcare taxes and roads. Please I can haz again? Pretty please?

I think the best case scenario is Trump losing the primary, and running as a third party candidate. Maybe I’m wrong, but at this point that’s the only path to victory for a democratic candidate that I can see. Obviously there’s a lot of time for things to happen between now and then

He might actually carry a few states and prevent the D  or R candidate from getting an electoral majority. The chaos after that would be biblical.

I think this gif is going to be very applicable to almost any scenario in the next few years.

Damn it. I didn’t even think of that scenario. I was just hoping he would siphon off some republican votes and let the dems cruise to victory. We might be proper fucked

I think one of the only things that could save us, and I think it is VERY unlikely, is if dotard were to run 3rd party.

He's too stupid and lazy to pull that off.

He’s absolutely considered a third party. It gives him absolute control over the party’s purse strings, something that he tried to get with the GOP and failed. He was still able to get a few hundred million steered away from the GOP and into his PACs, and that alone makes it worthwhile for him to look into.

At this point, he’s prosecution-proof.  He chafed against a lot of the grind of the Presidency and tried to avoid it when possible.  Running third party puts him fully in control of the money, and even when he doesn’t win, he still rakes in hundreds of millions and still gets to do his speeches and rallies and still play kingmaker. And unlike the loyalty problems of the GOP, having his own party means people in it are 100% loyalty to him.

And don’t think he wouldn’t pull in a bunch of (R) Representatives who then become (M) Representatives.  Or (T) Representatives.

Next to inheriting from his dad, politics in the 2010s and 2020s has got to be the absolute easiest money he’s ever made.

Fan fic here, but maybe there’s a nonzero chance that him announcing a 24 run would spur the small number of republicans that had hoped to weather the storm and have him go away relatively quietly, into some action against him?  At the RNC level or Mitch or someone else with some power?

People were giving you shit for this, but I think it comes down to the numbers.  If the data people say Trump will help Dems in key races/states, Mitch will find a sacrificial lamb or two to fall on their swords.  Mitch plays a very long game he will have to do something soon. He wants the GOP preparing future talent, not have Trump living in 2020.

And while DeSantis is young, DeSantis doesn’t want to wait until the demographics favor the Dems.  Does he want to step aside for Trump in ‘24, knowing that his road will be much harder in ‘28?

DeSantis and Trump debating would be awesome.  DeSantis is the kind of smug son of a bitch who would look at Trump and say “You cost us the House, the Senate, and the White House, why should we support a loser like you” and then sit back and watch Trump turn purple with rage and sputter about Hillary and Hunter.  He wouldn’t use those exact words, but he’d damn sure remind everybody that Trump lost Congress and the White House.

I've heard Chuck Todd mention this several times, how Republican Congressmen told him in private they didn't agree with Trump and Chuck's message is always the same--they're scared of the man. That sounds so fucked up--running for office and when the time for courage comes -- fail to do the right thing because they're afraid to get their cash cow cut or won't be reelected.  Fuck those cowards.   They took an oath of office, honor it.   And Chuck in private, must just nod and laugh because why else would they confide their cowardice? Chuck is the enemy--the media.

If Dems can't do the right thing, I hope Liz Cheney boils them alive in the press.  They really should realize the risks to their families and lives they will endure if they don't do the right thing.  Trump is a hair away from locking someone up just to see if he can.

Trump already owns the Republican Party. Why would he ever consider starting a third party? He raises more money than the GOP. They are totally in his thrall. There are candidates like Nikki Haley who’ve said that they would only run if Trump doesn’t.

Trump will run and he’ll win the nomination easily. This isn’t hard.

I still believe Trump is going to run and will be the nominee.  But one way or the other an obvious play for him if his time owning the GOP ends is to start his own party.  MAGA, the first subscription-based political party.  If Republicans want to keep him from destroying the party then they have to keep him in the fold until he’s dead.  Best outcome for them is if they convince him not to run (likely by paying him).

I refuse to let myself give into the hope that he will be jailed or dead in the next 30 months, but god please.  PLEASE!

The irony is that most POTUS' are declared a lame duck immediately after winning a 2nd term. Dotard, of course, shatters all norms. If he wins a 2nd term after 4 years in Loserville where he raked in hundreds of millions while spreading the Big Lie and undermining our electoral process, this country is finished. He'll have even less of a desire to actually perform presidential duties than he did in 2016. He'll plant his biggest sycophants and donors in positions of power, dismantle the intelligence community, and if he can get a Flynn-like ally instated as Secretary of Defense he'll weaponize our military against everyone he sees as a threat: media, corporations, NATO, etc.

He'll have 2 goals: steal as much money as he can, and make his enemies suffer.

But how do political folks not see this coming?  He was working on all this while in office.  It'll be accelerated if he's elected.  I'm saying this because Biden isn't going to fix inflation.

Because Moscow Mitch and his ilk see Trump as a necessary evil that they can control--or at least survive the collateral damage of his syphilitic tirades--long enough while they do the real damage to weaken and dismantle our country's democratic principles.

Not sure how I feel abt this tbh as the US O&G were in dire straits at that point.

Gas prices still fell. I don't have a problem with the ask, maybe the method, but then a lot of strong men in power positions only really respond to that type of threat. I'm conflicted, I think in some instances his style of negotiating was ok. doesn't change the fact that he's a dumpster fire, he let Christo-fascists appoint three justices that will ruin our country, he gutted the Executive branch, he ruled for his own personal gain, he promoted lies, he told lies again and again, he rapes women, and he encouraged an armed insurrection.  he needs to go away forever (I mean he belongs in prison) even if future presidents should carefully consider some of his negotiating tactics with foreign authoritarian leaders.

He doesn’t control the purse strings in the GOP. That’s money he’s leaving on the table as far as he’s concerned.  He also doesn’t like that people like Liz Cheney are still in the party.  Third party gives him 100% control over the money and he’d finally get his ultimate purity test of only allowing in people loyal to him.  And he’d force Republicans to choose his party or risk running against his candidates.

And we can all think of a few dozen Republican House Reps., Senators, and Governors that would join MAGA.

Yes he does, for all practical purposes. He’s raised more money than the RNC since Jan. 6. When he ran for re-election, his re-election campaign and the RNC were a single entity. He took control of their donor database and every rally he holds adds names and email addresses to his list. As soon as he wins the nomination, every Republican who might have had a fantasy about moving on without him will fall in line. A few will leave the party. But it’s his party.
