You must not remember the 70s and the Pittsburgh Pirates "We Are Family" championship.

My buddies and I went to a Cards V Pirates game at Busch in 1979, arriving way early to get our usual front row $2 bleacher seats.  On the walk in, we came upon Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, and Bill Madlock heading the other way on the sidewalk.  While nice to us, those dudes were INTIMIDATING, in particular Parker and Stargell.

Why would anyone think that a late-season meeting between aggy and UT would involve top 5 teams?!?  It would mean that aggy would need to be ranked in the top 5.  Jesus tap-dancing Christ.

You're asking for a lot, but also I agree.

Aggy tradition of getting left just outside the top rankings. Order another banner!

One would think the Horns and Aggies have met as top-five teams several times over the last half-century, but I had to go all the way back to 1975 to find the last time it happened. It was Darrell Royal’s penultimate season in Austin and the No. 5 Horns (9-1) were riding a five-game winning streak.

They had recovered nicely from a 2417 loss to Oklahoma, but the No. 2 Aggies, coached by former Royal assistant Emory Bellard, were hotter. They were 9-0 and had won six games by double digits.

As 56,679 packed Kyle Field — it was half the size it is now — things didn’t go well for the Horns. A&M linebacker Ed Simonini was all over the place and UT quarterback Marty Akins aggravated a knee injury. The Aggies keyed on Texas star running back Earl Campbell and celebrated a 20-10 win that gave them a clear path to a Southwest Conference title, a Cotton Bowl appearance and a chance for the program’s first national title since 1939. All they needed was a win at No. 18 Arkansas.

Didn’t happen.

The Razorbacks rolled 31-6 and created a three-way tie with Texas and A&M for the conference title. The Aggies ended up in the Liberty Bowl where they lost 20-0 to USC in what was Trojans coach John McKay’s final game.

Norman???

NYT writers are clearly infatuated with the idea of trailer parks rather than the same old projects they see on the daily.

Incuding Norman but leaving out Athens is a pretty big swing and a miss.

Norman is actually a lot of fun. Campus Corner is full of bars, restaurants, etc, and is all walkable. Plus, the big museums on campus are excellent. Way better than The Station.

They also have more meth, mullets and sister fucking. The station is limited somewhat to barnyard animals.

Haha, someone sent this letter to the New York Times:

COLLEGE STATION Texas. It was originally a train station for students to get off the train for Texas A&M. How does that NOT qualify as a "college town"? And as unique a football experience as you will ever encounter.

lol "unique"

Unique means “one of a kind”, so…..yeah. It might fit.

Really feels like they got the win Saturday and immediately started looked to the Texas game as they believe they will win out (at least until our game).

I’m not so sure that’s the best thought process

Dude is just waddling around.

They're the regular holy Aggie rings.

"At other schools, anybody can go to the jewelry store to get their college ring. Not here. Here you have to earn it."

  1. At other schools, nobody gives shit.
  2. At other schools, graduates don't often first identify themselves by their university FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES AND EVERYWHERE THEY GO.
  3. Do you really believe there would be a run on Aggie rings if anyone could buy one? Are you nuts?

these rings are so big and stupid, its really a gift to the rest of us to be able to recognize these rubes from a distance

Hmmm.  Seems like the price range to buy one on the interwebz is about $100-$300

So these are the rings the aggys are clamoring after . . .

Or, how to say you flunked Marketing 101 without actually saying you flunked Marketing 101.

How is Weigman getting a ring?  He's in the first semester of his 3rd year on campus...

Are those available without the bullshit "At Austin"?

People ask me "Where'd you go to school?"  My answer does not have the words "At Austin" in it. There were - and are - two answers: either "Texas" or "The University".

You need 90 hours as an undergrad, and 45 completed at A&M. Pretty common to get there if you’ve done pre-college work and summer school and he was also an early enrollee so he’s had five full semesters.

Last week, Jason Kirk on the Shutdown Fullcast referred to College Station as “Wakanda for white people” and I can’t get it out of my head.

Tell that to TEX, the Telephone Enrollment Exchange, for the University of Texas, at Austin.

An aggy doesn't have to be wearing a big old ring to recognize that person as an aggy.
