I'm not saying don't eat regular bacon. I'm saying turkey bacon as its own product is awesome. Honestly, I can't imagine why anyone would dislike it other than they think it is healthy and therefore bad. It is fucking smoked turkey.

Are humanely raised chickens with a proper diet and no drugs a great way to give affordable protein to families who are on incredibly tight food budgets?

Folks who buy humanely raised meats  have at least some influence over how meat is raised tomorrow. The V folks have opted out.

All this bacon talk reminds me of my favorite line of Scorsese’s Netflix series on Fran Liebowitz: “Jews don’t eat bacon because it is too delicious.”

No, but our physiology from our digestive tract to the location of our eyes to the shapes of our hands...we were meant to find meat, kill it, and eat it.  We really started getting cruel and lazy about it starting about the Industrial Revolution.  Big Ag and massive chain supermarkets on interstate highways didn't help matters.

But stomachs demanded meat, but done more sustainably and humanely.  And supply met that with stuff that sure as shit tastes better than the crap from Safeway or Sysco.  Sure it costs a bit more, but over the last decade (Covid notwithstanding), prices have come down markedly, transportation and tracking systems are getting more and more meat to the right places within fresher windows of time.  It's not just farm-to-table high-end restaurants.  Most of my local dives have the list of partners on the back of the menu where my $9 burger and cheese and even the bun come from.  We're finding out, real fast, that you can eat better-tasting meat/dairy/fish for just a slight tick above what you pay for the same slop at Chili's or Albertson's.  And at scale, the prices continue to come down.  I mean, I don't want an intimate relationship with the cattle I am about to eat, but I actually enjoy getting to know how the ranch fed it, raised it, and treated it.  I guess because my FIL is a farmer and cattle rancher, but I like talking with the folks behind the counter or at the Farmer's Market.  I don't the pig's backstory, but I appreciate the efforts they go to.  Having said that, remind me not to bat the head in of the next snapper I catch when my daughter's is behind me.  She hasn't had a bite of fish since she saw that but I was afraid it was gonna jump up and slice her arm with its sharp dorsal.

The diet our bodies demand is being met by a responsible capitalistic supply of delicious food to where we dine.  Vegans see these large partnerships between dairies and chicken ranges and fisheries and large grocers and restaurant groups and think "sell-outs, giving into the evil corporations and capitalism."  But in reality, at scale like that...they'll do more in one month of orders to curb animal cruelty than 10 years of vegan protests.

dude, can't we just shit on dumbass women vegans in peace...

Woman with several fatal food allergies (soy being one of them) doesn’t inform her vegetarian roommate, whom she’s known for at least a month, about them? Nor does she bring it up right before a surprise mystery breakfast? Doesn’t have an epi-pen or whatever nearby?

seems legit. People must really troll the fuck out of that AITA subreddit. It’s too tempting.

My first roomate didn't know I was into slump-busting plumpers for at least a few months.  Happens

Which may or may not have contributed to her tragic kiln accident.

I think you're thinking of her cousin, Fawn.  Fran warned her not to go to college in the South.  And Fran was right, Fawn died a few semesters later.  Damn shame.

A woman claims that she pressed charges against her roommate after she switched her typical food out with vegan alternatives, leading to disastrous consequences.  The story was posted on Reddit, and the author says she was looking for a replacement roommate after one of hers moved out.
She says she met a girl named Erin, who said she was a vegetarian, but that it wasn't a problem if her roommates weren't.
A day after she moved in, Erin apparently said she wanted to do something nice, and cooked pancakes, bacon strips, and hash browns.  The woman says she has some severe allergies but didn't mention them when she asked what was in the food.  "She told me it was regular bacon. Not that it was fake bacon or that it had soy," the post reads.
After she says she took a few bites and something tasted off, Erin apparently revealed the switch.  "At this point, she does a 'Ta-da,' and smugly told us 'I bet it tastes exactly like meat,'" she wrote.
The author says she then began panicking because she is highly allergic to soy.
She says Erin began apologizing, but that she was already going into anaphylactic shock.  "Throat closing up, dizziness, the works," the post reads. "My best friend freaks out and calls an ambulance. I had to stay in the hospital for two days."
It continues on to say that the cost of her stay was expensive and that she filed a complaint with the police because food tampering is a felony.  Food tampering laws vary from state to state. However, according to the Department of Justice, to be convicted of food tampering, it must be done "with reckless disregard for the risk that another person will be placed in danger of death or bodily injury."
The woman says that her friend had luckily filmed the incident, and Erin had to plead guilty to a low degree felony, receiving community service instead of jail time.  She adds that she also ended up suing Erin for compensation for her hospital fees, and won that case as well, leading Erin to have her college scholarship canceled and to go into debt.  In the comments, she specified that she initially asked her directly to pay her hospital bill, but Erin apparently refused.
"I know she is the a****** for lying about food. I wanna know whether I am the a****** for everything I did after," the story concludes. "Because bottom line is, I basically screwed a person's life because they put wrong ingredients on breakfast that they made only 'to do something nice.'"

Why is it that my two favorite things to eat, bacon and ass...sound so horrible when combined?

lulz this cracked me up because I remember you talking about wanting to munch on Shiv's ass in the Succession thread. #MeToo

Regarding the Veganism, that really does seem to be a diet that humans are not designed to live on. My ex is a vegan and I attempted it awhile back but it was impossible for me to get my daily protein requirements. I know people can live off a vegan diet but can you really thrive on it without going into debt at Whole Foods?

I too remember wanting munch on Shiv's ass and I'd thank you kindly to stay out my personal affairs.

Again, if your physician and/or cardiologist say categorically, "No more meat, fish, or dairy or you'll die in 24 months"...then by all means, please listen.  I know I need to cut back on all those things.  But shy of that, we aren't built to only live on a vegan sustainment.

We show up about 300,000 years ago and agricultural revolution comes along just 12,000 years ago.  We would not have made it 288,000 years on the whim that "I'm sure some whole grains and spinach will come along shortly.  What's that?  It's not the natural growing season and we're not yet capable of harvesting and stored foodstuffs?  Well fuck that rabbit shit they're eating over there, I'm sure we'll be fine."  Also, if you believe we've only been around 6,000 years and farming that whole time, fuck you---you're as annoying at parties as a vegan.

Not to derail the thread, but what the fuck is up with the bacon at Whataburger these days? It seems like anytime I order it on my burger it looks like it was boiled until it lost all of its color and just gave up and died

Hmmm. What happened with Whataburger about two years ago that may have impacted the way they purchase and prepare food? Hmmmm.
