I will be calling the foundation tomorrow and demand paper tickets for the rest of the season. That was some bullshit.

Yeah, had it happen to someone else I know. So Sunday we took screenshots of all the tickets which should solve the problem unless your phone dies. As a backup just send the pic to whoever yo8 are going with.

Went to my first game since Herman’s first year and there were two big things that stuck out. First, the new PA system is terrible. It’s abrasively loud. Much worse than I remember it being a few years ago. Second, what is the point of having a band in the stands if they don’t play during breaks? Every commercial break or timeout was just piped in club songs. Not really any Texas Fight chants either. No Bob Cole was nice though.

Probably because that music gets people more hyped than the band paying some old songs.

Is that you Lowell? We need more phat beats?

OU game is far away the most hyped fans get and has the least amount of hiphop music and none at levels that deafen.

Would like to work in the band to the production. We can have both.

There was a point when the band was playing its ass off and did nothing to hype the stadium like the music does. Using a neutral site game to try and justify our home stadium when this game and last game has been the best environment we’ve had at DKR in years is stupid.

Hype? Lowell?

Seen plenty of games where fans are going bezerk without Lizzo.

Had one manufactured Texas! Fight! That’s not a hyped crowd. Change your username.

We now have an enclosed football stadium with a real deal student section. That will lead to “hyped” environment. Lets have a college football experience.

Students ain’t going to be hyped by the band and band ain’t going to be heard very much unless game is silent. So what do you want? Hyped crazy fans or the band?

You sound like you bitch about people who are standing in front of you at games.

The college experience is something else and bands are part of it. Its not a binary choice: band or Lizzo. Lets just get some college football atmosphere going because theres nothing else like it. It involves embedding spirit groups into the production.

I’ve missed like 10 home games ever. Get a new username, Lowell.

Yeah, that was ridiculous in the Brazos garage last night.   Was on the 3rd level and didn't move an inch for an hour.   The first two games were not like that.   Don't know what the heck was going on.

I think they forget, screwed up, or chose not to pay off duty cops to direct traffic after game. We were in a 6 level traffic jam. Buncha ladies around us formed a “girls bathroom club” and were peeing in cups. A dude a few floors below went on street and directed traffic but was getting honked at by fucksticks with no clue.

Anyone have parking passes in the purple state garages? Took almost 2 hours to get out of garage b last night. No police directing traffic at kludgy 15 / San Jacinto intersection by exit. Should have stayed at tailgate, but for fucks state that was a joke.

APD and UTPD achieve intergalactic levels of egress entropy and have for years.  for domer we parked in the new at the time dell garage.  it took THREE FUCKING HOURS to get out of that garage.  at one point i walked out to the FIVE "officers" standing around DOING FUCKING NOTHING and berated them for their incompetence and they acted like they were going to draw down on me.

unless you have access to a private garage with security that intervenes with competing traffic at garage exit, i would never ever ever again pay $75 to park in the black hole of a state or school garage.

I think this is true, we noticed the lack of cops directing traffic everywhere.

Surface lots are where it's at, if you're in a garage, give the pass back and keep your money. We gave ours back when the stadium went to 100k. I usually park at my brother's house and bus in, last game some friends wanted to tailgate, so they bought a pass for a surface lot. Easier.

Was at the aggy game last night. Seems like we're following their game plan of being obnoxiously loud on PA and letting the crowd fill in to make it seem louder. This is how they get their reputation of being louder than any other school, all songs and announcers were deafening then the crowd responded in pivotal moments. Other than that they're just as loud as any other 100k stadium but get the credit because every other down moment is filled with the loudest speaker possible.

Game day atmosphere has overall significantly improved since CDC took over, so I don’t wanna sound all negative, but…

How do you add all that big screen and digital ribbon space and still end up offering the fans less stats and scores? in the past, the board would repeat the names involved in the last play and the ref’s calls. That’s gone and so are much of the stats. And how the hell have we not already sued the hell out of whoever sold us this barely functioning big screen? (I volunteer for the job!)

Also, if you’re in the suite on the east side a couple doors north of the 50, would you please stop draping your flags over the light boards? No one needs your personal touch added to the overall aesthetic and it looks like crap. Thanks.

Last thing. Didn’t the south end zone Bevo cut out used to have LED around it? Where’d that go? I thought we were supposed to be adding that around the rest of the stadium this year too. Now there’s none.

I do think that the experience is improving. Fans are showing up, getting louder. The student section is a far cry from a few years ago when they were struggling to put students in the south end bleachers. They have been bringing it. I actually do like some of the corny produced shit like the AC/DC thunderstruck intro on the big screen. Didn't even mind the manufactured Journey moment under the lights. It feels like we're all there together.

At the same time, not nearly enough Texas Fight chants over the 2 games I've been, and not nearly enough Longhorn Band. I think the mix can level out juuuuust a bit to get it where we want it. Because 1 Texas fight chant during a home game is not enough.

Isn't that on the cheerleaders/whoever is charge of the cheer leaders for the Texas Fight chants?

What you're talking about is a college-football experience from 1965.  But in 2022, that's not what a college-football experience is.

If you were to travel around every major college football stadium in the country, you'd see that they're all a lot more like what we're currently doing than what you're describing.  Hell--Notre Dame, which is an absolute bastion of traditionalism, is pumping in music rather than just having the band play.

Presumably, they're all doing that because that's what the vast majority of fans want.  You and I may prefer something different.  But unless virtually every athletic director in the country is wrong, we're in the distinct minority.

So you can either go along and enjoy it, or you can continue to shake your fist at a cloud.  But neither one is going to bring back a day when the band playing The Yellow Rose of Texas suffices to get the crowd excited.

Of course there is pumped in music. At the Notre Dame game I attended it was nowhere close in decibel level (and less feedback blasts) or frequency. It was closer to the OU game. Their student section was unbelievable.

But theres a balance to be had. The band and cheerleaders need to be part of the production. And students need to be part of it. If you suffocate every single second with music, you wont allow spirit groups and fans to do spontaneous things like Texas Fight or “F the Mormans!”

Hey, there are butts in seats and they are selling beer so it's working for them.  The club music is crowd Viagra.  Students shouldn't need it, but everyone's doing it.  They have taken a lot of stuff that used to be organic: cheerleading, the band, the Texas Fight cheer, etc, and turned it into a sequence of events.  There's only one Texas Fight chant per game because they do it when the Jumbotron tells them to do it and it would not occur to anyone to do it spontaniously.

I remember a mid-90's Texas/OU game when our offense was in neutral, but the defense was kicking butt.  The Texas side started doing "Defense" chants during the second half for every play, every series and the defense kept getting better and better.  It was awesome and a lot of fun.  That's not going to happen when you rely on a sound system.

I remember a game when the starting QB was struggling and the cheerleaders were leading a cheer that was "What do you want? TD. What's that? Touch down!". The students changed it to "Who do you want? JB. Who's that? James Brown!"  Hilarious and the students went nuts when Brown got into the game.  He deserved to start and he's still one of my favorite Longhorns.

Longhorn Band is still awesome, but they can't compete with artificial noise.  They are coming back from some down years, with COVID hitting at the same time that the "Eyes of Texas" controversy hit.  They are working hard to be more diverse.  The administration and alumni are supporting them and they are well funded.

Texas high school bands are the strongest in the nation and the band gets smart kids from those bands that can play their butt off.  Some of these kids come to Texas to become the next generation of music educators and some will become our next engineers, business leaders, doctors and lawyers.  It would be great if they were featured more in the stadium but they are still students having fun getting ready to be leaders, just like those before them.

So I haven't been to a game in years. My last Texas game was OU game when Sam was still QB. The last game at UT was maybe when Mack was still here? Have tickets for WVU this year. Not sure if I'm just going to be horrified.

I was listening to CDC on The Horn before the Alabama game. I was not impressed. Talked about visiting Disney and doing "R&D" (Ripoff and Duplicate) for the experience here. Talked about things like "entertainment dollar" and the like. Didn't talk about building a winning program to get people in the stands, but about all the other BS to get people to go to the games.

First time I had heard an interview with him. Always thought he was pretty good and way better than Patterson. But damn if he didn't sound like the same sort of shit we had with Patterson. Kept waiting for "6% blended increase."

Maybe withhold judgment then until you actually go to a home game then.  Everything about gameday (particularly pre and post game and student attendance/involvement) is a ton better than it used to be.

My 13 & 15 yo liked it. (DJ more geared to them)
We were in east side club and i like now that they got rid of the stupid carnival tickets you used to have to buy to redeem for drinks and went to cc only.
DJ is loud but no Cole makes up for it. Band doesn’t do shit for me (this was true pre “eyes” controversy) the band has just never been any type of plus to the game day experience

All in all good time, don’t see getting season tickets again as fall baseball makes it tough for me to make games consistently.

Feels like there are less vendors this year as well. Don’t remember having such long lines at all times during the game. Especially the east side of the stadium. Beer runs taking 1/2 hour regardless of game time

Pro-tip the ticket scanners aren't paying that close attention. I typically stuff a beer in each of my pockets and take my phone, wallet, and keys before I get close to scanning my ticket. I don't have a problem with paying for beer at the game, but I don't want to wait 30 min in line to get one.

Agreed.

Pre-Game at UT had to go through a transition. The parking lots were quickly disappearing and thus tailgate locations (for how we tailgated at Texas). The outcome has been tremendously positive, for a higher number of game day attendees (granted the displaced tailgaters may find it a worse experience, I personally think it is better).

This has also led to more people being in the stadium at kick off, the differences in this year compared to 5,10,15 years ago is noticeable. The way the student section works has played into this. Another overall positive.

Yes the atmosphere has changed, but a lot of it is much better.

Yeah no kidding. A couple of the guys I went with didn't even scan their tickets. Just walked in.

I walked in last game too. I showed my phone and they waved me through. I didn't scan my ticket at the ULM game either. The people in front of me were confused how to show their tickets. I just walked past them and no one stopped me.

Brazos garage is a complete clusterfuck.  For the past 3 home games its taken me 45 minutes, 95 minutes, and 65 minutes to get out.

I mean that just is what it is.  It's what happens when your campus is in the middle of a massively growing city and you invite ~150-300K people (depending on the game) to a central area. I mean how much more downtown traffic is there in general downtown compared to 10 years ago?   I think the worst I've ever seen getting out of a garage was the 2011 aggy game at Kyle, so if you park in a garage pretty much anywhere, I think you have to plan on just hanging out somewhere for at least an hour after game.

I usually go in pretty early on when the gates open. For Bama there was nobody else in line around us and I’m very sure we could’ve walked in without a word from the kid working the scanner.

When we entered the ULM game, there weren't even human scanners around.

You're probably right but I've parked in Brazos quite a few times over the past 20 years and it's much, much worse this year than ever before.  Not sure why it spiked up so badly this year.  I think lack of traffic control to merge the exiting cars onto MLK is part of the problem.
