This video would be funny if it wasn't so goddamn stressful to watch live. The play at 0:53 where Suh destroys Hall and then Hall passively watches Suh basically suplex Colt is an all-time post-2006 Texas-MacWhorter-OL moment

Also, big shoutout to Greg Davis for thinking it was a good idea to run our star QB inside and right into the best defensive player in CFB that season. And to do it behind THAT OL. An unfortunate portent of things to come

Yeah. Colt getting injured vs Bama was not a freak accident. It's the result of a sorry OL facing two real DLs in a row when your QB is also your best running back.

now let us never speak of this again

I'll never forget my Dad and I listening to the radio call of that debacle unfolding in the car.

We were in disbelief, and then the car overheated in Bailey's Prairie, Texas, of all places to break down, on October 17, 1981.

42-11 -- Still too soon!

I still think that cocksucker coach of piggy back then, Lou Holtz, had Texas' headsets bugged.

Interestingly, it looks like the House settlement might be back in court soon.

You just promise and pay players and if the NCAA does anything against you simply sue and you are almost certainly going to win. I cannot imagine anyone respecting any kind of salary cap, soft or otherwise. Now it’s just the question of if that player is worth the price based on your budget.

Article on Derrek Cooper, from the Miami 247 guy.

Cooper's comments on Texas make it sound like he may pick Miami, but the Texas recruitment will continue.

First, Copper's Texas comments, and then some posts from the thread.  The mention of Texas sets people off ... lulz.

(The full note is spoilered, at the end.)

On Texas: "Texas has been good. They've been reaching out a lot too. They're a big SEC school. It would be great to play for them. I'm still going to take the [official visit] later in the season."

Top247 RB Derrek Cooper breaks down finalists ahead of a commitment

Gaby Urrutia (Miami 247)

One of the nation's top uncommitted prospects is just a week away from announcing his decision.

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Top247 running back Derrek Cooper has narrowed things down to five schools: Miami, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia, and Florida State.

On July 20, Cooper plans to tell the world where he's playing his college football.

"I feel great getting it over with, getting into the season so I can play," Cooper told InsideTheU while checking in at the Crib Classic on Saturday morning.

Cooper touched on each of his five finalists.

On Miami: "I'm good with Miami right now. It's close to home. They've always been in contact with me. Conversations with [Matt Merritt] have been good. We've been chatting it up every day."

On Texas: "Texas has been good. They've been reaching out a lot too. They're a big SEC school. It would be great to play for them. I'm still going to take the [official visit] later in the season."

On Ohio State: "I feel great about Ohio State. [Carlos Locklyn] and Ryan Day, really good coaches. I like how they used Treyveon Henderson in the passing game."

On Georgia: "Georgia stands high on my list. [Josh Crawford] and [Kirby Smart] both great coaches. They stay in contact with me every day."

On Florida State: I love [Mike Norvell] and [David Johnson].

Cooper hasn't yet come to a decision.

"Still figuring this thing out. It's going to be a hard choice to pick, but hopefully I make the right choice," Cooper said. "Just being comfortable with the place. I want to be developed to the next level, the league. I want to be coached by the best."

As a junior, Cooper totaled 905 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, while adding 9 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown as a pass catcher.

He is considered the No. 39 overall prospect in the Class of 2025. Cooper is the sixth-highest-ranked prospect yet to commit to a school.

Yeah... fucking Greg Davis... The way I would channel my frustration was to bellow out, "We Love You Greg Davis!" as the punt team would roll onto the field.  Was something to giggle at against the damn frustration.  And better than a string of F bombs... or more accurately... more F bombs...

If I remember correctly, Bobby stated in a recent C&F segment that Texas should take a TE this class even though they really like Townsend and Winston and things were looking bleak on the recruiting front. His comments this morning about the staff potentially skipping on TE this class is a reversal and telling of how Texas sees the TE big board for this year.

In past episodes he’s gone on at length about how much they like the two they took last year.  Presumably taking one this year who isn’t clearly going to compete with them for playing time is a bit of a luxury.

They really like the transfer TE so Winston and Townsend and Washington will play secondary roles. If Endries stays 2 years, there isn't a huge glaring need to have a guy sit for 2 years at the NIL he would command. This means that Texas will take a TE opportunistically this year but won't dedicate a huge chunk of money.

Even if we somehow pull the upset and get Prothro today, it will stretch the notion of having picked up a TE. Dude seems like a hybrid receiver, and he evidently expects to leave real blocking to others. But that's Sark's business to sort out, should we beat everyone for the kid.

I'm more curious about the bunch of TEs already in the room. It would seem hard to keep Townsend's talent off the field, and Winston has impressed the staff already. Then there's Washington, who has potential when healthy. If Endries doesn't go pro in 2026, I'll be surprised if all these other guys finish at Texas.

Bobby’s connection on the coaching staff told him they expect an All Sec or All American type season from him and that he’s been the most surprising player during summer workouts.  If that’s true, I would think he’s a one year player.

Bobby’s update today is worth the read. He continues to be very bullish on Texas adding 2-3 more key recruits before August 1. He seems convinced that Sarkisian has a plan and that various other programs, less so. Echoes of the past cycles, but with different dynamics. Some programs have clearly gone from the pendulum swinging away from their bags and being generally poor to now just saying “fuck it, make it rain” without any regard for roster impacts in classes behind or after this one.

He also mentioned needing another Safety for the first time. He also set the expectation that he still thinks Texas is going to get another big time DT. I can’t even remember who is still on the radar and uncommitted. Finally, and this is probably just wishful thinking, but having read he and Gerry for years, I think he’s got an insight to the Cooper recruitment that is giving him a lot of confidence.

Someone who urgently needs the approval of various ne’er-do-wells on this forum should C&P it for everyone. @BurntOrange&White

I think some folks are starting to catch on.

If Texas really wants a player, is willing to battle to the very end, then Texas has a pretty good shot in that recruitment.

Yet if another team makes an out of range NIL offer, Texas simply won’t chase. Two wrongs don’t make a right, not when you’re trying to juggle adding elite players to your roster while also satisfying those already on it into the next season.

That means - for Texas at least - it’s not a perfect hit rate for top-notch players. But it’s better than most and, more importantly, it strikes the right balance and builds the team the most intelligent way possible.

**

I continue to think the commitment of Samari “Smoke” Matthews is one of the cooler events of the recruiting season.

If you’re unfamiliar with the story, Matthews essentially recruited Texas for the first interaction between the two parties, mentioning to reporters that he wanted to talk to Texas.

He got his point across.

And after Texas watched the film, the Longhorns were all in, eventually leading to the result last night of his pledge to the Longhorns.

**

The week ahead could be big for the Longhorns.

The nation’s no. 1 running back Derrek Cooper announces next Sunday between Texas, Miami, Ohio State, Georgia and Florida State.

As I’ve mentioned, Texas needs a big-time running back in this class. There is none bigger or better than Cooper.

**

Other positions of need that stick out to me at this time:

Linebacker - Texas only has one in the class with a need of at least two, possibly three.

Defensive tackle - The Horns have three but need a fourth, and the fourth needs to be a big-time guy.

Offensive tackle - John Turntine is elite; he’s really athletic. Texas needs a mauling tackle type to pair with him.

Tight end - Texas likes its two true freshmen, but they’d like to keep the pipeline moving.

Safety - Only Yaheim Riley truly fits this role in the class so far, and he could even be more of a nickel if he wanted.

Defensive end - Next year, Ethan Burke and Trey Moore are gone to the NFL. While Texas has a potential stud in Richard Wesley, they need another rusher to keep the roster the way they want it.

**

Couple of other recruiting thoughts:

- Sark and his staff are always looking for and highly valuing game-changers at any and every position.

- Sark and Brandon Harris also like to take advantages of opportunities. Last year, Graceson Littleton and Zelus Hicks are examples. And Texas almost snared Kellen Wiley. They felt Wiley and Littleton were relatively under-recruited even though they both had national offers. Look for those sorts of “opportunities” to develop the rest of the year.

**

Again, I feel really good about where Texas recruiting sits.

The Horns have 18 pledges. They didn’t reach for a single one.

I still think Texas gets to 20-21 by August 1.

this is the kind of out of the box creativity that we need to be successful here.  I just wish he’d keep it quiet so that we maintain the competitive advantage.

My absolute favorite part of that game was how GDGD was calling drop back pass after drop back pass. I kept screaming "what the fuck are you doing????!!!!" at the TV screen.

I know there is a lot of sky is falling shit but this year has been very unique.

Using the 247 combine rankings.

There would be 8 different schools with a top 10 guy with LSU having 2 with Keys and Lamar Brown if Atkinson ends up at Georgia, 9 if he follows his legend of a trainer to Texas. You get 7 more schools with recruits in the top 20 with two uncommitted players.

The only teams with 2 top 20 guys are Texas, Oregon, LSU and Georgia.

Schools like BYU, Houston, Maryland, Tech and Miami all have top 20 players and Washington has one at 22.

We will see where it all shakes out in December but the landscape is shifting god forbid to a more NFL like style with way more parity. The playoff and the fact every game is broadcast also makes it more possible for these other schools.

I still really like where we sit and I think you still have a top 3 with resources with that being Oregon, Ohio State, Texas.

LSU, Alabama and Georgia are still gonna pull recruits and Notre Dame has Freeman who is good recruiter.

This year at Ohio State, Florida, and Georgia we need to repeat what we did at Alabama in 2023.

Beat their ass on the field, go up to the recruits in the stands, and tell them they need to come to Texas.

Outside of hyping up Cooper he’s also spent time each video talking about the need for a game changing runningback at every opportunity
