There are more coaching and coaching-adjacent (scouting, analysts) jobs than ever before. The pay is ridiculous. It’s not a bad idea at all to see where your kid can catch on as an assistant trainer and enroll him there, and have him major in PE or kinesiology. If he fails to rise in that career, he ends up making six figures in a Texas suburb.

And not once will he have to solve a problem requiring the use of the square root of negative one.

To keep this wonderful conversation going. I have a 4 year degree and I used it for the first 10 years of my career. I switched over to working in the mechanical trades but on the business side. I have now been through 2 personal PE buyouts and been on the purchase side of 5 others. I’ve learned more about business working for the trades because of my exposure to this. Because of this MBAs are also flooding into the trades because the work life balance is so much better.

As far as actually doing the work, there is a massive shortage in licensed electricians, plumbers and HVAC mechanics. The pay is pretty good and it’s not hard especially in Texas to get into supervisor role very quickly.

It would be hard to rank the creepiest Twilight Zone episodes, but this one, the one with the talking girl doll (Talking Tina?) and the one where the aliens had a recipe for humans would all be in my top 10. The one from the movie where Lithgow is the only one seeing the goblin on the wing of the plane would have to be on there as well.

Point of order, the Nightmare at 20,000 Feet was originally done in the series with William Shatner in 1963.

You act like that's good.  I think it'd be sad, never getting to use your imagination

The goblin on wing of plane one messed me up as a kid. The completely empty town one was creepy too.

Is this the one where only John Lithgow could see the monster destroying the plane? That was one messed up episode.

Didn’t know that. I’m sure there’s plenty I haven’t seen, though.

Same. I flew once as a 2 year old and then didn’t fly again until I was 14. In between I watched that movie on cable with my older brother probably 10 times. I was terrified getting on that plane as a 14 year old.

The one with Lithgow is from the movie, but yeah. He’s great in it.

Comeback to find four pages, so I am expecting some news, but no, Arkansas sucks, college isn’t worth it. Got it.

There isn’t a damned thing going on with regard to 2026 recruiting that we haven’t covered and at some level of volume in the past 48 hours of posts here.

Here’s a Kreul (Krell) interview if people truly need a hit:

This Rod Serling episode of "Night Gallery" stands out for me...

I have nothing to add to this clusterfuck other than personal experience in my limited window working in space industry.  Not a single time has anyone I’ve known been asked where they went to school.  I’ve hired 4 folks in the last 6 months and I didn’t even get to the part of their resume to see where they went to college.     If you’re still pumping up where you went to college decades ago. Your life has been an abject failure because your experience should trump any of the bullshit being spouted in here by some Brain dead fucking retards.

also yes on the trades.  Low investment insanely high return just looking st the fucking service calls to get an hvac tech out to the house.

Add in robotics and robot computer science and I'm not talking MIT engineering degrees, I'm talking about blue collar jobs keeping them up and running with simple repairs, computer diagnostic tool and ongoing maintenance.

The US is the worst country in "western" world for applied vocational training and it starts pre-college. We should join the 21st century and actually have vocational tracks in our middle and high schools like every single European country.

Hell, add in drone piloting schools too. Those will be the delivery drivers and police traffic patrol in 10 years.

It was William Shatner in the goblin original. That probably had the most terrifying moment for me watching as a child.

The episode where the guy who loves to read goes into a bank vault to read during his lunch break and survives a nuclear war is greatness. Don’t want to spoil the ending.

The episode premiered nearly 66 years ago. I don't think you need to worry about spoilers.

I believe that character was played by Burgess Meredith. Great call.

When I saw all these new posts after a day of traveling to Chicago and seeing family I was hoping for fireworks... Arkansas vs UH vs UTD vs trade school academic smack talk is certainly new.

The quest for new lows on this board has always been intense and competitive, but it seems we are in the golden age of dog shit thread derailments.

Kreul has a nice array of moves for a guy still in high school. Excellent first step, as advertised. You just worry that he's maxed out already because of his advanced technique. I see him as a nice-to-have, not a must-have.

Our society has grown to treat college as de rigeur 13th grade.

Sadly, for most students these days, completion of 12th grade is probably on par with completing 8th grade many years ago. And don’t get me started on some of the dual-credit programs.

This is where I am at. He has some top-tier skills, but clear question marks about size and ultimate fit.

But Texas is in a great position since it is recruiting at a high level that it can take on someone like Kruel to see how he develops and maximize his skills without pining the Edge position's future on his potential development. There is plenty of talent in that room.

Unlike years past when the Edge room's potential was largely dependent on the hopeful development of a player like Breckyn Hager.

You call them “thread derailments.” I say, “Same as it ever was.”

For obscenely illogical and stupidly ridiculous reasons I have a negative feeling about Kruel.

The one where Billy sends the "bad" people out into the corn always gets me. That and the one with the golden thimble on the vacant floor of the department store and the mannequin.  That mannequin episode scarred me for life.

One of my favorite TV gags of all time came from a show called “Third Rock from the Sun,” which starred John Lithgow, as the leader of a small group of aliens posing as humans on earth. In one episode, William Shatner plays The aliens leader who comes to visit them on earth. John Lithgow is there to greet him at the airport when Shatner steps off the plane. Shatner says, “the flight was terrible, there was something on the wing but no one would believe me.” And Lithgow shout “me too!”

Kristen Johnson was also my introduction to unconventionally attractive women

Finley - You didn't mention him, but he's another. Texas wasn't that far away from ND's final offer. Jermichael Finley being a buffoon in the process didn't help. It's still one to keep in the back of your mind simply because they like the player a lot and the numbers could move.

The accuracy in this statement is spot on.

No Lyle Sendlein? No Richmond McGee?

I didn't recognize either of them. I thought one of them may have been you, and I wanted to put a negative X on that one.

Also, no offense to either Sendlein or McGee, but this is funnier. The shots are meant for Mack Brown and Maddog more so than McGee and Sendlein.

Regarding Sendlein specifically, he was an oasis of having a great center on the offensive line during years where we didn't have another one who was even average. Obviously his Dad is a legend, and it was so great having him and his brother on campus. He wasn't recruited as a center, but he owned that position. It was so nice having someone snapping the ball who didn't wear roller skates. Oftentimes our blocking schemes didn't do the centers any favors, but Sendlein was still a beast.
