Porn.
As much as I like looking at naked women, porn now is completely different now than when I was young.  I'm not sure how my brain would have developed if had the kind of access to the kind of porn young men have now.  I would have a completely warped view of women, which is what a lot of them have now.
I'm anything but a prude but porn today is incredibly destructive.

Part of the problem, but not the sole reason.

I don't think this is even debatable anymore. There are things that happen in the brain-- from a synapsis and neuron level-- that get warped, broken or disconnected from a developing human being (read: teenager) being flooded with any and all kinds of porn, for free, at any given time needed. It's so important for parents to keep an eye on this in this era where kids have iPhones from the ages of like 7 or 8.

And it's not just that they are looking at pictures-- it's the progression of watching more and more and more until the most extreme and hardcore fetishes and insane categories have to be explored to satisfy the natural human condition desire for sex. It's the definition of perverse, which is why I think it's actually good some states are making laws (no CR) making it hard for underage to access these sites. I think Louisiana and Utah from what I remember.

If you are over the age of 18 and want to be a weirdo fetishist and gooner and then have horrible social skills and stupid ideas about women, then that's on you I guess.

Here is a link to National Library of Medicine, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4560964/ which I saw from the WSJ which said "While there’s plenty to say about ways porn can affect the development of relationships and sexuality, this is a more focused look at children’s brain chemistry. Research shows that younger people’s brains are more wired for pleasure than adults, with higher spikes of the feel-good neurotransmitter dopamine released in anticipation of enjoyable activities, from an article entitled, "What Porn Does to the Teen Brains..."

Note, these aren't links from the many, many "Focus on the Family" and other conservative sites. These are pretty unbiased.

Further to add from that article:

Quote

The brain on porn

Valerie Voon, a psychiatry professor at the University of Cambridge, conducted the first major study of porn’s impact on the brain in 2014. She and several colleagues scanned the brains of young men who had reported having compulsive porn habits. When shown pornographic images, the men’s brain activity mirrored that of drug addicts who were shown photos of drugs. Researchers saw the reward-processing areas of the brain were more active in men with compulsive porn habits than in young men from a control group viewing the same material.

Also, interesting to note, there are parallels with studies of those who consume excessive TikTok.

You literally addressed damn near nothing from my original post. So if you want to talk further, go back and try harder. Hell, try at all. Otherwise you’re Helobious just talking through everyone else’s points. You’re not a shitty poster, so you can do a lot better here.

I’ll be very specific in the “violence towards women” angle as you call it. You responded to my post with zero suggestions or thoughts other than “it’s always been like this, it’s hopeless, encouraging male grooming is a waste of time.” While offering no suggestions of your own. Which to me is the status quo, which is subjecting women to more of Stanford swimmers raping women behind a dumpster and then they get off.

by all means, what helps this issue?

Maybe you don't recall, but I am a geologist by education, not a psychiatrist/psychologist/MD.  I don't have the solution.   I do not think simplistic low-calorie thoughts "groom and game bro" is the solution to people who feel isolated, enraged, or lonely in spite of their status (not in prison).   If I were to be held feet to the fire, I would guess they have insecurity issues that have stunted their ability to create meaningful social connections with people in person, but again, I am a geologist, my tool kit consists of hammers, triaxial geophones, and licking things.  None of which are particularly helpful.  But as a science guy, I know bullshit when I see it even if it's out of my magisterium.

As to the part that is emboldened, I never said that.  I said the advice of grooming/game was useless/unhelpful.  To suggest that my lack of answers will lead to more women being sexually assaulted is absurd.   You may not recall but you met me, you met my wife who used to work for your friend CTJ.  Surely you haven't confused me in this long absence of being the Almighty, which I suppose is where I get my T-rex ass-kicking abilities from.   But I suppose we do share some qualities.  Being misunderstood (sometimes intentionally)

But since you invited me to do this, your first post to me was a false dilemma by which if I don't have the answer then you must.   Well, I can't recall the Zoeppritz equation off the top of my head but if you tell me it's V = IR, I can still call bullshit on that.   So far, you have engaged in a false dilemma, strawman, and slippery slope fallacies.  All because I basically wrote something to the effect of I think it is more complicated than clipping toenails.   Yes, I didn't respond to your second paragraph which can be summarized with "got to keep up with the times" because well,  it was fine.   But do you really think the angry incel is not keeping up with the times, or that time and cultures advance in unison or at the same rate?  Obviously not.  If they grew up in a pocket of resistance than they are likely to find others in that community.

So where are we at?  I think guys like Andrew Tate are toxic shitheads who deserve any and all scorn.  And I think the followers are either like-minded or manipulated into this personality cult because they have underlying issues that only a professional can really work out.  No amount of "grow 6 inches, get a bigger dick, get handsome, get cool, get game, get rich, cut your ear hair, or ditch the unibrow look is going to land with them and turn around their fortunes.  Nor will just stop being a loser, moron, smelling."   I don't exactly know the answer for those who are already thralls, but for those who are on the cusp, I think the best help will be found with professionals in the medical and mental healthcare fields.   The answers are not going to come from people who studied Brown vs Board of Education or know what the net present value of Arkansas lithium extraction facility in SW Arkansas is.

Yes, I certainly don't recall either your field, or your wife. You'd have to be more specific, which obviously can be done over a PM. As for the meat of this paragraph, obviously mental health issues aren't going to be fixed with some tips, yes. We can start with bad parenting for young men, and bad parental role models, and access to marginalizing media. Entire genres of books have been written on the damaging effects and silo'ing created by social media, particularly on the developing brains of young people. But this is the issue I had with your posts, which you reference throughout in various different ways, that I took exception with, which comes down to some version of "these thoughts aren't helping, and they're worthless." Which you have below:

Quote

As to the part that is emboldened, I never said that.  I said the advice of grooming/game was useless/unhelpful.  To suggest that my lack of answers will lead to more women being sexually assaulted is absurd.   You may not recall but you met me, you met my wife who used to work for your friend CTJ.  Surely you haven't confused me in this long absence of being the Almighty, which I suppose is where I get my T-rex ass-kicking abilities from.   But I suppose we do share some qualities.  Being misunderstood (sometimes intentionally)

Yes, I speak in hyperbole, and no, I'm sure I can't draw a straight line to your post and more women being sexually assaulted, which isn't really something I did anyway. That being said, some version of throwing around "That doesn't help, I don't have the answer, but I know the answer isn't this" is not constructive either. And I don't mean because you don't have a solution. But it does further the cause of normalizing that kind of behavior of the incel class. Not calling a spade a spade, not speaking about it being reprehensible (which you do later, great, I never thought you were a malicious person or poster) not condemning the person and their behavior at every turn is, in my opinion, preventing the progress of shaping the worldview into something more equal. Giving women more power. Even if it's just widespread contempt for those kind of people whether it's mental illness or not. On some level, the whole outlook and worldview needs to be attacked.

I dont have much to add here other than the fact I have zero idea what your first two sentences are saying. I don't think I've engaged in any of those fallacies, and I also don't think it's fair to characterize your point of view as "It's more complicated than that." You persistently posted and responded that you didn't any of the viewpoints/suggestions on this thread were the problem, while offering nothing further up to counter it. This is the first time I recall you saying "I don't have the answer." It's not absurd for someone to get the impression that after they've gone back and forth with you a few times on this subject, while you offer no suggestions while taking the time to repeatedly show back up and post in the first place, that maybe you're just shitting on the concept don't think there's anything to be done.

Seems relevant to this thread:

https://amp.dw.com/en/germany-woman-dies-after-attack-near-neuschwanstein-castle/a-65922799

Quote

Authorities on Thursday said that one of two women attacked near one of Germany's most popular tourist sights has died.

The attack took place on Wednesday near a historic bridge popular among tourists for its view of Neuschwanstein Castle, were the man is said to have pushed both women off a steep slope, after allegedly attempting to sexually assault them.

The two women, who were 21 and 22 years old, were tourists, but authorities did not disclose their nationalities.

Police in the state of Bavaria said the alleged attacker is a 30-year-old US national, who fled the scene after the crime but was caught and is in custody.

Footage on social media appeared to show the suspect in handcuffs being taken away by police from the site, as well as the air rescue operations.

About 10 years or so ago, I had a guy come to my office to get his paperwork done to go overseas and get married. He was a clean cut guy, very friendly but kind of came off as a nerd, but the kind of nerd you don't mind being friends with, if that makes any sense. A dork that you wouldn't mind having a beer with. He was also short, hair thinning. I think he was in his early-mid 40s. He seemed pretty smart and he obviously had a good job becasue he could afford to pay for all of this shit.

The worst part was just how OPEN he was about it. He didn't need to tell me why he was going to Viet Nam but he just blurted it out, "Can you believe I have to go to Viet Nam to find a wife???". He wasn't mad, rather he was poking fun at himself. I just said "hey, uh, you know" and looked away. Maybe he just got tired of striking out with the women here, maybe he was a huge pice of shit. Personally, I think he was autistic and couldn't make connections with women. Maybe the language barrier will help him.

I don't know if it has already been brought up, but I think dating apps make up a large part of the problem for younger generations.  I am very thankful I never had to deal with them.  They encourage only giving somebody a cursory glance before making a decision.  It is more like a job interview process than a romantic initiation.  Interactions are so transactional and disposable if you don't stand out immediately you get no matches, which would really hurt someone who might be physically unremarkable but has a lot to offer in the personality/smarts department.

I know they have worked for people, but I just feel like it is overall dehumanizing and antithetical to how humans have been finding mates for centuries.
