Just in the last 72 hours:

Trump said that Kim Jong Un "misses" him.

Trump said that he "kinda liked that” when the head of the Taliban called him “Your Excellency"

Trump praised the Chinese dictator Xi Jinping: “He's a brilliant man. He controls 1.4 billion people with an iron fist."

Trump said that Viktor Orban wants him back in the Oval Office.

Trump said that Putin will release Evan Gershkovich only if he wins in November.

Trump praised dictators and autocrats: "They're all smart, tough. They love their country", adding that getting along with them is a "good  thing."

If there's one thing that someone can hang on Biden that would be the end of democracy it would be making Merrick Garland the AG.

JD Vance is one of those morons whose Venmo transactions were public.

Wow.  I have a couple of decades on the guy, and I'm about as far from a Bay Area VC as you can get, but even my Venmo transactions are private.  Way to go, dummy.

Yeah, I saw that on Twitter.  What a fucking waste of time.  I cancelled the NYT subscription I had for 20 years three days ago because of "thought exercises" like that.

Meanwhile, over at Huffpo, my other main source of news, they relentlessly blast out "Biden's getting replaced" day and night in hopes getting clicks.

Joe Manchin has unsurprisingly joined the “pass the torch” crew. 38 Democratic Members of Congress now. If you believe the rumors there will be close to triple 36 tomorrow. Even with the SS hearing on the Hill regarding the assassination attempt.

the optics we all know suck. Trump is saying Dems are socialists that are trying to ignore 14 million votes in favor of putting their own candidate in the mix and forcing Biden out. The Dems are going to let him have the optics of running against “no clear opponent” for a couple of weeks while the Repubs take in the cash hand over fist.

I don’t know if the rumors are true about this many Congressional Dems defecting tomorrow and joining the now 38 but if there is not any announcement or signal from Biden he will step aside I guess we will find out.

This poll is obviously bullshit.

lol there is no way Trump leads in metro Detroit (the sentence could end here), where Biden won by 400k votes with a 60% overall vote share, and only leads the state by marginally more. That implies Biden is at a near standstill in the other half of the state, where he was comparatively beaten soundly.

This is, I think, the main consequence of delaying the inevitable, and it’s that the GOP donor class has gotten excited over the prospect of facing a weak candidate.  I doubt it’s useful for getting Trump votes but the money is going to get spent hammering every flub made by the Democratic nominee.

ABC has Manchin on. The reporter prior to Manchin’s lead in said the politicians who have not spoken publicly will do so in a well orchestrated very coordinated effort soon.

For some reason I have remembered the conventions being held much closer together. It benefits the Dems to have it later bc nothing is settled. But the issue is money. GOP finished their convention and are hitting the campaign trail. And as of right now yes they are running against Biden/Harris but the optics are they are running against no clear opponent. The money blow is devastating. Some have said most campaigns are won in July. I don’t buy that but if it’s true it’s bc of the money and if that’s true it’s all over but the shouting. But we go down fighting. 🥊

I saw a graphic I was too lazy to screenshot on CNN about the war chests for each party yesterday:

GOP: 350 million Dems: 240 million

it could not be worse. It could not be worse.

It can always be worse.

For example, you're China sitting there watching this and you think "hey maybe this IS the time to get rowdy with Taiwan".

Shit like that.

Agreed. Someone threw that at me - not saying it was bozo - I don’t remember who it was - and it was infuriating.

No. And does anyone care? It’s not like if he dies, Trump becomes President

There are probably millions of people that think this might be how it works.

There's an in between that’s most likely. There’s a very good chance he lives four years, so Kamala is never president. He just deteriorates even more over 4 years, and is “president” - or really Jill or some unnamed group we never voted for.

While many may prefer that to Trump, that’s a difficult thing to sell. Especially if you’re representing the side of democracy.

Being in software sales I totally understand. Imagine being a sales person with a quota at crunch time when news breaks out your company is being bought out. Your buyer is concerned. Will the product still be the same? Same service?  Who will run the company? Who is in charge? I know great salespeople who have lost huge sales in that situation.

You can’t sell it to enough voters to win.

Cedric Richmond the campaign co-chair for Biden-Harris 2024 is on Face the Nation right now.

[1000 points of light. Stay the course.]

Richmond is saying what you would expect: Biden is the nominee. He has made his decision. He will be the next President of the US. His voters like and want our agenda. He said the 38 members are allowed to do or think what they want. He has a strong base around him. This wasn’t going to be an easy race and they are preparing a campaign that is built to win in November. It’s hard work and they are going to do it. host is having a hard time with this line of questioning.

If she took the gloves off she would mop the floor with him if she came back. If course she is also ancient and it's a bad idea.

Let's just do Harris Kelly and call it a day.

It’s time for Harris / Shapiro let’s fucking go. But if Biden truly says he’s staying as bad as that may be then the party needs to shut the fuck up and attack Trump, attack Project 2025, and attack Dobbs and the Supreme Court.

I never thought I’d be saying this about my former party but they do seem to be playing chess in this campaign. My former party sucks at getting messages out. Their conventions are more like funerals. Mostly. Trump has his 39 year old VP solidified. If the worst happens and somehow he goes to the pokey they have Vance locked in. And he can bring in whoever at VP. He has his contingency plan locked in who has the support of big tech.

the kind of shitshow around us I see happening is what happens to Repubs. Usually it was of guy number one saying it’s my turn and my former party bends over and loses. Bob Dole anyone? George HW Bush campaign? John McCain? Mitt muther fucking Romney? Bend over and lose was the MO I grew up with.

it’s bizarre watching Dems do this. I always envied how they got the vote out. The message out. How they worked with MTV and social media. How they always had the people on tv saying the same message. We are in the upside down world.
