She should be mentioning his mental decline every day, though.

I think you missed the point on that one. If something crazy like that actually happened, it would be Trump throwing in the towel, and Vance ain't beating Harris.

it's not to rattle Vance. it's to rattle Trump and MAGA.

MAGA already believes these kind of conspiracy theories - imagine if this one took hold.

White dudes for Harris organizer.

I’ve seen a lot of questions about why white men—especially young white men—seem so angry, distrustful of the Democratic Party, or drawn to MAGA-ism. I've been studying this issue for awhile now and I wanted to share some thoughts. If we want to make inroads with white dudes, we need to understand what’s happening.

First, economic opportunities are shrinking. Young men are struggling with stagnant wages and fewer job prospects, making it harder for them to gain independence, start families, or even feel secure in adulthood. That instability makes many susceptible to the MAGA whirlpool.

Second, there’s a major education gap. Fewer men are graduating from college compared to women, which has serious consequences for their long-term economic and social stability. Kamala Harris is doing well with educated white men, but not with those who didn’t finish college. That difference impacts their prospects and feeds into larger societal issues, which is why we need to make it a lot easier for people to go to college without racking up debt.

Third, we’re facing a mental health and social isolation crisis. Young men are lonelier and struggling with mental health issues at higher rates, partly fueled by social media and the erosion of traditional community institutions (churches, men’s groups, etc.). White men in America are four times more likely to commit suicide than any other group. This is a national crisis, and we’re barely talking about it.

Fourth, there’s an identity crisis. Gender roles and societal expectations are shifting (which is a good thing!), and young men are left wondering where they fit in. Without positive role models, many gravitate toward toxic figures like Donald Trump, because at least someone is speaking to their frustrations—however inartfully (which is being generous). Democrats haven’t done enough to offer better alternatives, though I think we’re starting to, with people like Tim Walz, Pete Buttigieg, and Doug Emhoff stepping up as strong role models.

Fifth, forming relationships—especially romantic ones—has become harder. Economic pressures and the rise of online dating have created new dynamics that are disincentivizing young men (and women, for that matter) from building meaningful connections. This only adds to their sense of isolation and fuels resentment, particularly toward women and those who are economically better off.

Lastly, there's a deep cynicism and lack of trust in institutions. Many young men no longer believe the American Dream is for them, or that they have a place in a society that’s rapidly changing. The old American mythology is crumbling around them, and with it goes their belief in a stable future. That loss of trust is driving them toward more extreme solutions and making it harder for them to feel invested in collective progress.

All of these factors—along with others I haven’t mentioned—are creating a perfect storm of resentment and frustration among young white men. But these issues are real and addressable. The problem is, for too long, Democrats have retreated from engaging in spaces where these men are, leaving them to only hear from one side.

That’s why I’ve been pushing for @KamalaHarris to go on Joe Rogan and praising @PeteButtigieg for going on Fox News. We need to enter these spaces and have real conversations about the issues white men are facing. Will it win all of them over? No. But if we can win over even a small fraction, it makes it much harder for Trump and MAGAism to win nationally.

We can’t keep acting like white men don’t have real issues. Everyone is suffering from something, and everyone deserves to have that suffering addressed by their government. If we address these issues with the same seriousness we give to other communities, we won’t win them all—but we don’t have to. We’re building a multicultural coalition to move this country forward, but we can’t ignore the real challenges young white men are facing.

He's not wrong.  Really, he's not wrong about any of it.  Except...he doesn't get into the "how and why" these things came about.  Here's the rest of the story:

Young white men had it easy in terms of higher education, social dynamics, male roles in society and work, romantic relationships, etc.....because for GENERATIONS (really, all of western history), the deck was stacked IN THEIR FAVOR in all of those respects.

It was easier for Willy Whiteguy to get into a decent university because.....no/few minorities, and no/few women were competing for admission slots.

It was easier to participate in social institutions because they were almost all built for and run/filled with almost exclusively....white men.  The Elks Lodge, fraternities, the local church Board of Elders, all of it....99% white guys.

Nice cushy job in a downtown office, or at a good factory?  Again....much easier to get because they were filled 99% by white guys, no real competition from minorities or women for those jobs.

Romantic relationships?  When women didn't have any real prospects for a safe, stable, secure (including financial security) future without a man to provide for them, men held all the cards.  And again, the highest-value cards (remember the good education and all those good jobs) were held by white guys.  If Pretty Paula wanted a nice house and decent food and a good lifestyle, she needed to marry a Willy Whiteguy, or she was hosed.  Today....Pretty Paula beat out Willy Whiteguy for the latest promotion.  She has a nice townhome, eats well, and has a nice life....she doesn't need Willy Whiteguy for any of that.  Sure, she still might like a sexually compatible companion whose company she finds pleasing, but Whining Willy Whiteguy isn't doing great in that respect -- he sits at home, plays video games, has little ambition, and bitches about the fact that women who look like supermodels (the only women he thinks have any value) won't fuck him, and it must be someone else's fault.

We've failed young men because we haven't pounded into their heads "society isn't just going to hand you this shit anymore, you have to go out there and earn it."  And you're goddamned right I put a lot of that on the heads of loser young men who don't have the ambition or balls to get up out of the gaming chair and improve themselves.  But I also put some of that on the rest of society, because we indeed have failed young men.  When you take away an expected pathway (for all the right reasons -- none of this was to "punish" young white men, but simply to allow everyone else onto the field to compete as well) without offering a well-defined alternative pathway, people end up lost.  Shut down the factory in town where everyone works, without providing an alternative, training for a different field, etc., the former factory workers are 1) fucked and 2) pissed.  Metaphorically, we've done some of that, and we haven't figured out how to equip our young men for the new paradigm.  We really need to do that.

On the bright side, for young men who DO have their shit together, they're in high cotton.  My son has talked about it (and he's already seen guys descend into the Andrew Tate world, bitter and angry, with little educational/professional/romantic success).  He says "look, I'm smart enough, ambitious with a good work ethic, I'm decent looking and know how to dress and not look like a bum, and I can engage with women as equals and not treat them like they should be my property....I'm doing great."  And he is.  I'm sure he'd have done well under the old paradigm as well, but employers still want to hire men.  Women still want male romantic partners.  They just want winners, not losers.  And has his peers fall away and become embittered losers, he looks better and better.

But for all of our sake, that shouldn't be how things go.  His loser peers need to catch up, because society being stuck with a huge clump of underperforming, angry and bitter young men isn't good for anyone.

Scott Galloway did a most excellent podcast that basically hit every single one of those points.  I think this is it and still a great listen.

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/failing-young-men-with-richard-reeves/id1498802610?i=1000584062413

You mentioned that young men need to get their shit together and I'd like to expand on that.  There doesn't seem to much ambition with younger men to get girls.  When we were "utes," literally everything I did was to get laid/get a girl.  Look better, get a car, go to college, make money, etc.  Every single one of those had girls as a component as to the why.  Even college wasn't so much about throwing leg in college.  It was about making more money as an adult, knowing I'd have more options with women.

I see it a lot and I honestly have more in common with young women now.  They want the same things out of life I wanted at that age.  The boys barely want to even drive.

I do think porn is a problem and lord knows I'm not a sexual conservative.  I think the amount and type of porn these young men consumer completely ruins their ability to relate to women.  (Neg away, porn fiends.)

One caveat - as a white male, I'd argue this is still the case. It's still very much a white man's world.

What's been happening is the right has used things like affirmative action and DEI as red herrings to make white men think that they are going to be excluded or replaced, when in reality it's just about leveling a playing field that even with those is heavily tilted in their favor.

No disagreement.  But still, when for centuries, you've had a 100 yard head start in the race, and now you only have a 50 yard head start....and because you had the 100 yard head start you never bothered to learn to run that fast because you didn't need to, the head start gave you all the advantage you needed....well, loss of a huge advantage into a smaller advantage can feel like a DISadvantage.

Young white men still have every chance to succeed -- they even have built in advantages.  But they have to actually fucking work for it now because there's competition.  We gotta figure out how to get them off their asses to compete.

Lots of great points made on this topic already, but Tiger Moms/Karens aren't helping. We don't let kids suffer any consequences anymore and we don't let them fight their own battles (literally or figuratively) without "mama bear" showing up at the school to give everyone hell. My son has a friend he's been swimming with since they were probably 10 years old. It was obvious pretty early on the kid was going to be an elite swimmer. He was 6'6" in 9th grade and already had facial hair. Both this kid's parents were military officers who met at a service academy. This kids entire life has been micro-managed by his mom since his first swim practice (probably longer, but that was my first exposure) She manages every aspect of his life right down to what and when he eats and drinks. I've heard her at swim meets talking to other moms about not liking this teacher or fighting with that teacher. Now they are seniors, and my son says he's the most immature kid in his friend group by a long shot. Any time they are at a travel meet and his mom isn't around, he fucks around like he's a middle schooler. He says the only kids that want to hang out with him are the underclassmen. Kid has signed an LOI to swim at a service academy next year and he's going to be in for a rude awakening.

Fox News - Trump +2 nationally but Harris leads in 6 swing states

Those 2 things can’t happen

In a shocking twist, Republicans think Kamala bombed the interview while Democrats think she did just fine.

For anyone who got to see it (stuck at work), does anyone think she may've lost voters out of showing up on FOX?

Yep. Some weird outliers that always happen, but remarkable stable race

So, I ordered a few things from the HarrisWalz campaign store back on 9/16.  As of today, they still have not shipped, so I told the folks running it (based in Austin) to either refund me, or convert my order to a donation, but I am not going to wait longer for fulfillment and shipping. Not happy with that, but it is what is is.  I am sure they did not anticipate the overwhelming response, but it it still frustrating.

They also were trying to spin up all new gear, using union shops, while hundreds of other candidates had earlier orders. Still frustrating.

Sorry Penelope, but I'm ahead of you.  Ordered August 15.  I got an apology email and a handful of nuthin' so far.

A single interview on Fox isn’t going to do anything to this race, really

Huh.  We ordered the camo hats (both in the initial run and in the follow-up run), and each arrived about when expected.

I ordered my stuff on August 10 and they will be arriving in split shipments tomorrow and Friday.

Fair.  I was really looking for a general vibe of the interview.  How she came off in a hostile environment.

I’ve seen a few folks say that they think she performs better in a fairly hostile environment than in a friendly one. Her answers in some of the clips I’ve seen tonight seem crisper and stronger than the ones that have come out on her podcast tour.
Sort of makes sense, given her background.
