Zero Dark Thirty took a lot of liberties, but they definitely nailed the stupidity of that one.

That was unbelievable. So they all ran out to the car to greet him like he was grandma arriving for Christmas. No wonder it took 10 years to find that MF'er.

Saw it last night, liked it. I love food and family stuff, though.

I watched it last night with my daughter, and we enjoyed it.  I was confused about the review in the paper though.  Maybe it was because my brain was addled at 1:00 am, but I didn't understand who wrote it and when they ate at the restaurant.

Also, is it just me, or did Vince Vaughn look a lot older than he did in Bad Monkey?

Netflix doesn’t miss on documentaries.

Next time, you might include the fact that Admiral McRaven gets some significant screen time.  It might drive some more viewers that way.

About to start episode 3. Fucking amazing that anyone had problems with the “enhanced interrogation techniques” we used at Guantanamo after what these fuckers did or tried to do.  The fact that KSM is still breathing is a fucking disgrace.

The part I thought to be disgraceful and maybe overlooked was when all the bombing started not long after 9/11.  I'd be willing to bet a person in the "chain of command" to the POTUS did not clearly state why ground forces were so important.  Why that person didn't get the point across is the question.  Because of morality issues, public relations, political ambitions, etc.  we'll never know but there is a good chance Geronimo's escape could have been stopped right there.  Who was that person, do they sleep well at night, we'll never know.

Gold and Greed: The Hunt for Fenn’s Treasure

I remember hearing about this a couple of times when it was happening, but didn’t realize how crazy people got about it. The end is really fun.

Who wants to go on a got damn treasure hunt!?!

Watched last night - I'd heard of it, bit it was wild how many people were obsessed with finding it.  Fun watch.  Not too long.  100% the sketchy old blonde was banging him.

Will watch tonight - assuming this refers to the battle in the Tora Bora mountains.  They had him cornered and cut off.  Sourced from guys on the ground, numerous books, testimony, etc. they had him and were essentially told to let him go and he slipped through the Pakistan border where he remained until his elimination.

That bin Laden doc was pretty good

I agree. Stumbled upon it by accident Saturday afternoon and watched all 3.

The bin Laden raid is always suspenseful no matter how many different ways you watch it.

Wish there’d be a time we’d see OBL himself from the raid before he’s shot.

Can’t believe they got 2 helicopters there and back. The White House correspondents dinner scene was funny, they were all probably hoping for Seth Meyers to STFU about OBL

I assumed the guy he visited at the radio station assigned another critic on staff to go visit it after eating the takeout Vince brought him.

It had to be someone who ate there because the review talked about the family atmosphere, but the movie made it appear that nobody ever ate there except people that they knew. I don't know why this bothers me so much.

Fred and Rose West:  A British Horror Story is a good watch. I never pass up a good serial killer documentary.  Dude was a master of burying bodies with very little available real estate.

The Diamond Heist, good enough to watch once.  3 episodes drama builds along the way with last one being the best.  Brits almost pull off the world's largest heist.

Yes. They explained this in the movie. There was a female Asian assistant to the NYT guy, whom he sent there to eat and write a review. She was there the last night of operation. There’s no plot conflict. They were not doing jack shit for business, like you said. Had one last night to operate. The reviewer was there because she was sent there.

ETA: I *think* this might have been revealed in one of the panels during the credits.

Produced by Guy Ritchie and very much is in his style.  It was fun.

Just watched Las Palmas, a nicely done 4-episode Norwegian volcano/tsunami series filmed in the Canary Islands.  Overall, plausible and well done.  Geothermal physics and blonde, nubile Norwegian ladies are featured. You can click over to English or listen to de Norge talk.  I will never journey to that ‘ell ‘ole, nossir.  A good diversion from dodging the crap Netflix thinks I want to watch.

Watched this too

Plausible, but pretty cliche at times

Spoiler

Whole family survives - the daughter just happens to get off the first plane that easily, and then is one of, what, 3 survivors when the entire plane was hit by a tsunami

Brother of the Thai tsunami girl being killed was pretty duh, saw that coming

question: did netflix say, “we just gotta have a tom segura long-form sketch comedy show, here’s a bunch of money tom, please make this show”, or, did segura want to have his own show, and threw a bunch of his own money into it and pitched it to netflix?

Bartles, yeah that was pretty much a no-one-walks-away crash, as depicted off-camera, anyway.

He told Rogan he didn't think it would get approved on paper so he filmed some scenes on his own to submit.

Nonnas.  A cute little movie about an Italian American guy who opens a restaurant on Staten Island with Italian nonnas as chefs.  It’s got a nice cast like Lorraine Branco and Linda Bartalini, but it’s really a love story to Italian American families and their food.

When Susan get nice big tits?

Jesus. She was not hiding them

I have to pimp one of my favorite podcasts here. Dan Cummins is a stand up comedian (might be was as he's now focusing on his podcasts)

His team does incredible research and he tells the history of multiple serial killers (along with a lot of cults and other items) He always adds a curious amusing twist to the tales. It's very different and very fun listen. You can find links in the page beloww.

Link to Dan Cummins' Home Page

The Fred and May West one was disturbing for sure. I'll watch it on Netflix too.

Brett Favre may be one of the all-time boneheads but . . .
I saw him singlehandedly put Southern Miss on his shoulders and beat Alabama in Birmingham in a game he was not even supposed to play in due to injuries and serious surgery.  The dumbass was in a bad car accident in June or July and had to have a good bit of his small intestine removed.  Another dumbass, Curley Hallman, was corching USM at the time.  By the time game day arrived, Favre was taking snaps and “might play.”  Shit, the tough little fucker started! Mrs. Llama and I just knew we were going to see a man killed and guts on the field the first time he took a hit but he got hit hard several times and survived, even played well.  By the time he was driving them for the winning score late in the 4th quarter we were calling for his head.  He was a gamer. I’m so old and fog-brained now I can’t recall the score or whether Bama was corched by Bill Curry or Gene Stallings in that game.  I just remember loding to Favre.  I think that was the year Stallings got off to an 0-4 start.  That loss to Southern Miss was the opening game of the year.  The Favre doc was pretty good.  I think his life coach must have been Leon Spinks.

Bless you, my son and I completely agree with your statement but I saw Bama play in Tuscaloosa before a half empty stadium crowd (17,000) in 1957 under coach Ears Whitworth.  We’ve had some pretty good coaches since then.  I’ll be watching the Crimson Tide, win or lose, until Chiron ferries me across the Styx.

Didn't make it ten minutes into Silvermans new special.

Has she ever been funny?

I watched it high and enjoyed it afew nights ago but didn't find it super funny. It did have a few good moments, especially once she started talking about her recently deceased dad. The special really was all about him, but she also tells a few stories about her also decently deceased mom and stepmother. Her act was a little more subdued than past ones, but I think it was basically a tribute and she realizes she's now an orphan who's getting older. In that context, I could relate a lot with this special.

Sirens

Spoiler

Another Netflix masterpiece that you can’t decide is good or not after 5 hours. They’ve mastered engagement, but not excellence.

Julianne Moore must need the money. She was in Boogie Nights and The Big Lebowski for Christ sake.

I think this is Bill Camp and Bacon’s new lanes. Excellent performances on mid shows.

Nothing really stuck out about the sisters other than Milly Alcock has a great body.

The twist is extremely predictable and unsatisfying. They put almost no effort into setting it up, and the only explanation we get is a 30 second scene on a ferry.
