Screw that. I’d sit down and finish eating and never go back. I am as patriotic a person as you will find. I will gladly go to bat to talk about the military and the history of the navy and marines in particular, but this faux patriotism really hacks me off. Call it what it is, a cult wrapped up in a grifter-in-chief, and go on about your business.

There is a BBQ place where I live where everyone stands up at noon and they play the Star Spangled Banner. One of the workers asked me if I would like to join and I said no thanks and that forced patriotism isn’t my thing. I was the only person sitting down eating and I really didn’t care. It felt like I was in North Korea. I’ve always had a problem with businesses profiting off of patriotic shit.

Don't go to Stan's in Goodland, FL.  It's the most MAGA place ever.

Relatedly, while I get that we will continue to start every sporting event all the way down to kids baseball games and swim meets with the SSB, why the fuck are we still having to endure the shittastic God Bless America during 7th inning stretches?

I've been singing the Naked Gun version of the Star Spangled Banner since I was in 8th grade, and you can pry Enrico Pallazo out of my dead mouth.  If we can't have a little sport at the expense of our Nation, what the fuck are we even doing?

"Home of the Land, and

Land of the FREE!"

Also, I'll stop playing the Jimi Hendrix instrumental version on the 4th of July exactly never.

Yeah, I don’t think I would take that well. Sort of like if people started praying all around me or something. Shit is weird. I only do it at games as a going through the motions thing.

Ghislaine Maxwell is a monster, child sex trafficker, and pedophile, but she is blessed by a guardian angel, the president of the United States, who will soon free her.

Simultaneously, senior Obama administration officials are being targeted for banana republic prosecutions.

The Trump regime is filled with corrupt and disordered sycophants, incompetents and extremists from top to bottom. There has never been a collection of more unfit human beings with more power — ever — in the history of the country.

Two things are happening in America.

First, Trump is growing more unpopular by the hour, while becoming more powerful by the minute.

Fundamentally, this is a function of the fecklessness and appeasements of the Chuck Schumer-led Senate minority, which refuses to fight Trump and refuses to defend America.

There are exceptional Democratic senators, but each is hindered, and all are hobbled, by the absolute outrage of the career politician from Brooklyn’s refusal to loosen his grip on power. This, despite having an approval level on par with that of Putin in America, and 30 points below that of Donald Trump.

Kathy Hochul became governor of New York when Andrew Cuomo resigned in disgrace before becoming one half of the rotten political wind lifting Zohran Mamdani to Gracie Mansion.

Among the most incredible features of this awful moment is the relentless refusal of America’s broken media companies and pundits to make the obvious point that Mamdani and Donald Trump share something in common: they defeated the same people — Andrew Cuomo and Chuck Schumer.

The geniuses who keep playing chicken with the sensibilities of the American voter by challenging them to vote for corrupt politicians — or else face the doom of incompetent government — have been laughed out of the room. While they were in the hallway, arsonists were given marches and gas cans and a permission slip to make things burn.

Of course, the thing about fire is that it can be hard to control.

Second, Greg Abbott of Texas is a corrupt extremist and a faithless American, who loves his party, his power and Donald Trump.

He is a MAGA arsonist and a political thug with a governor’s mansion to call home.

A bitter and incompetent man, Greg Abbott’s smallness and misfortune pair perfectly with his crippled character, which is his defining feature.

He lacks good judgement, ethics, fidelity, integrity and loyalty to the United States of America.

Greg Abbott is exactly what George Washington warned about in his farewell address. Make no mistake that Greg Abbott has started something that is going to spiral out of control.

He has asserted the proposition that it is the corrupt politicians who should choose their voters and has decreed that the Texas congressional lines must be withdrawn to eliminate as many Democrats from federal office as possible. Of course, never mind that fact that it is the middle of the decade, and no redrawing is scheduled for another seven years.

Many years ago as a young man, I was fortunate to read a book that sent me down a long road of reading and discovery about how things happen in the world in which we live.

The book was called “The Guns of August.” It is the story of escalation and epic miscalculation on the edge of a world historic disaster that would play out for 31 long years, and kill over 100 million people.

Let’s get back to Kathy Hochul, who tripped over a couple of platitudes in her “war” announcement answering Greg Abbott’s aggressions.

Here is what she said:

“We are at war.”

The last time there was a war between Americans, for the record, it killed at least 800,000 of us.

Yesterday, Donald demanded that a Confederate general and KKK member’s statue be restored, and put back up on its pedestal in Washington, DC.

Currently, Texas legislatures are being sheltered in Illinois, while Greg Abbott threatens them with arrest, and more ominously, to declare their elected offices vacant with a declaration that he has the power to fill them.

There are reciprocal plans being developed in Democratic states that would redraw their maps and gut Republican representation that are now being worked on in Illinois, California and New York.

What comes next is a cycle of eradication.

We are about to see what zero-sum politics looks like, as the Trump cancer continues to spread and infect our civilization from coast to coast, while the locus of the fight moves away from the Democratic party’s most feeble leaders towards its most effective.

The next months will be shaped less by the lethargic and inept Schumercrats, and much more so by the able and talented pool of Democratic governors.

Thank god.

I do not like Kathy Hochul’s “war” talk.

I do not want war.

I want to live in America again.

I do not want to live in a country with masked secret police, concentration camps, corrupt politicians with licenses to steal and a feudal economy.

I do not want to live in a country where there is no rule of law, no justice, no fairness, no opportunity, no merit and no accountability.

I do not want to live in a country where a tyrant rules by petulant whim and tantrum, where nothing is true, nothing is real, and nothing matters except what the leader says, what the leader thinks or the leader believes.

I want to live in a free country.

What this means is the abuse of power must be confronted by the maximum use of power at all times by leaders who comprehend what is happening in this moment.

We are not at war, but America is under attack from within.

We face a domestic enemy who sits in the White House, and holds the US Constitution in contempt.

It is time to stop pretending.

It is time to use power to fight its abuse. Then, who has the wisdom to restrain the abuse of power by stripping power from the offices and departments where it was abused? The American people need to feel safe that their god-given liberties will not ever be threatened by the whims of a poisonous clown and the weakness of an army of his sycophants again.

This moment requires plain speaking, fierce convictions and a plan to restrain the awful accumulations of power that have come to threaten everything we hold dear in this country.

John Adams said that the divine science of politics is the science of social happiness.

The happiness of the American people will require restraining the power, influence and reach of America’s gilded classes and institutions.

Presidential power, corporate power, big tech power, pharmaceutical company power, big law power, and CEO power must all be confronted by the power of the American people.

There are too many people and institutions that have gotten big enough to think that they have a license to step on Americans whom they have gotten too big to even see anymore.

It’s time for that to change.

I got stuck some in that position once and when some redneck told me to stand, I told him i ain't no traitor to the stars and bars. I like to think that his rusty hamster wheel turned enough for him to be confused about his allegiance to the northern aggressor.

So if I go up to him in an unmarked car, masked up with a bunch of people holding guns and ask "are you here legally?" Again, it's just another iteration, in practice, by a fucking GOVERNOR, of Wilhoit's Law:

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

If you are a member of a group/race/ethnicity we (the MAGA government) doesn't like, then 1) they get to unilaterally declare that you're an illegal, and 2) disappear/deport/rendition you without you ever seeing a judge or anything of the sort.  The flip-side, to fulfill Wilhoit's Law: you only get to see a judge and have the facts of your situation actually adjudicated if you aren't here illegally (a decision/status the MAGA government already made).  TLDR; the only people who get due process are people the MAGA government has decided are entitled to due process.

And there, above, I just wrote the opinion that Clarence Thomas will eventually write on a 6-3 vote.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/08/coding-error-blamed-after-parts-of-constitution-disappear-from-us-website/

Quote

The Library of Congress today said a coding error resulted in the deletion of parts of the US Constitution from Congress' website and promised a fix after many Internet users pointed out the missing sections this morning.

"It has been brought to our attention that some sections of Article 1 are missing from the Constitution Annotated (constitution.congress.gov) website," the Library of Congress said today. "We've learned that this is due to a coding error. We have been working to correct this and expect it to be resolved soon."

The missing portions of the Constitution were restored to one part of the website a few hours after the Library of Congress statement and reappeared on a different part of the website another hour or so later. The Constitution Annotated website carried a notice saying it "is currently experiencing data issues. We are working to resolve this issue and regret the inconvenience."

Quote

"Upkeep of Constitution Annotated and other digital resources is a critical part of the Library's mission, and we appreciate the feedback that alerted us to the error and allowed us to fix it," the Library of Congress said. We asked the Library of Congress for specific details on the coding error, but we received only a statement that did not include specifics.

"Due to a technical error, some sections of Article 1 were temporarily missing on the Constitution Annotated website. This problem has been corrected, and the missing sections have been restored," the statement said.

Quote

The deletion happened sometime in the past few weeks, as an Internet Archive capture shows that the text was still on the site until at least July 21. The deletions were being discussed this morning on Reddit and in news articles, with people expressing suspicions based on which parts of the Constitution were missing.

The temporarily deleted sections of Article 1 consist of about 650 words, as can be seen in an Internet Archive version comparison. This included part of Section 8 and all of Sections 9 and 10. One deleted bit contains authorization for Congress to provide and maintain a Navy, and to call forth a "Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions."

Spoiler

Another victim of the temporary deletion was the section on habeas corpus. "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it," it says. Other deletions included a provision allowing the slave trade to continue until 1808, a prohibition on bills of attainder, and several provisions detailing powers denied to states.

Of course, the Constitution can't be changed by simply deleting passages from a government website, but the error temporarily made it more difficult for people to look up parts of the founding document. On the other hand, most people don't spend a lot of time reading the Constitution, so the attention generated by the incident may result in a net increase in Constitutional reading.

Mission BBQ. The first time I was in one at Noon I was like what in the fuck is happening.

In SW Virginia.  Been twice.  First time I had no idea what to expect in any aspect of the experience, food had not been delivered.  I stood up at the noon thing not knowing wtf was happening.  Afterward thought "that was weird".  Sat down, then ate shitty bbq.

Went back one more time when someone else suggested it, thankfully NOT at noon.  Tried to eat absolutely shitty bbq again.

Both were quite a bit ago now.  Even though I know people (that I think are decent) that are associated with that place, fuck Mission BBQ.  Do better.

The end.
