I mean, what if Oregon ordered its own National Guard not to let the Texas National Guard in?

I don't think anyone would escalate like that, but how would that go down?

Surprisingly Trump did actually mention OBL and predicted a future terrorist attack in that 2000 book. In separate chapters

That's not exactly a feat of prognostication, as the World Trade Center had already been bombed in 1993.

He enjoyed having nyc’s tallest building. He knew OBL.
ipso facto he funded 9/11.

Here’s the book’s single mention of bin Laden, in a section criticizing US foreign policy: “Instead of one looming crisis hanging over us, we face a bewildering series of smaller crises, flash points, standoffs, and hot spots. We’re not playing the chess game to end all chess games anymore. We’re playing tournament chess – one master against many rivals. One day we’re all assured that Iraq is under control, the UN inspectors have done their work, everything’s fine, not to worry. The next day the bombing begins. One day we’re told that a shadowy figure with no fixed address named Osama bin-Laden is public enemy number one, and U.S. jetfighters lay waste to his camp in Afghanistan. He escapes back under some rock, and a few news cycles later it’s on to a new enemy and new crisis.”

That is clearly not any advice to anyone about bin Laden. And it contains an acknowledgment that bin Laden had already been targeted by then-President Bill Clinton (after the 1998 terror attacks on US embassies in Tanzania and Kenya).

Now where have I seen that before.  It's so hard to put my finger on it.

So does @Enchubben approve of and want this administration going to “war” against their own people? Because that’s what Stephen miller is doing and Fat Boy is okay with it.

just need it on record that @Enchubben is okay with the American government attacking Americans

I’d also like to know if @Enchubben is okay with the proud boys and other nazi militia members going in under the guise of “ICE” and basically disappearing and killing minorities in communities in LA, Chicago, etc.

You know, just getting it on record and stuff

13 shootings this weekend in DFW

And a pretty significant number of them in Ft. Worth proper, which is about as red as a city gets in TX.

Trump hasn't changed his writing style at all in 25 years. lol. Like I wrote earlier, what are the chances that Trump even got past the forward when he was handed the book he "wrote"?

Wonder the same.  What is the legality of a state authority arresting a federal actor there?  Feels like following a knowingly illegal order is the same as acting without any legitimate authority, i.e., subject to ordinary criminal laws.  so the feds can be arrested for (on the serious end of the spectrum) some kidnapping-like charges if they actually do ICE-like tasks down to things like trespass.

As a general proposition, it is legal for state authorities to arrest federal agents/officers for commission of crimes, subject to the usual strictures of arrest/indictment.

That's where the criminal removal thing that Trump tried to use comes into play.  That's so the federal officer can get a federal hearing of whatever immunity defenses s/he has.

I think what might be a more interesting scenario is if home state guards, deployed legimately by the governor, attempt to block the "entry" of non-native guards deployed without gubernatorial consent and under dubious federal control.  Doesn't even have to be shooting, just a good ol standoff.

Hell, just send a bunch of state troopers to stop the trucks at the state line.

I really have no clue why the market is doing what it is.  I'm happy that my accounts are going up but also terrified that a drastic readjustment is coming.

If we knew WHEN, well, that's how we could make some real bank.  But oh....it's coming.

Agreed.  I thinnk I am closer to retirement than most here so my comfort level is low right now.  I'm 2 1/2-3 years out.

Yeah, I'm far from a finance guy, but I'm surprised (and my stock account and 401(k) are thankful, for now) that the market hasn't taken a big and sustained dive by now.  I guess the market (1) is still betting that our Chicken-in-Chief won't impose any serious long-term tariffs, and/or (2) doesn't give a shit how much groceries cost.

Unlike you, I have another 10-15 years before retirement, so hopefully that's long enough to recover from any damage this administration does to my retirement account.

I’m on the same timeline as you.  Just keep dollar cost averaging every month and don’t worry about what the market does.  Crashes are actually good buying opportunities as long as you stay the course.

Interesting conversation this AM. I ran across this story today linked from Drudge: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/06/paul-tudor-jones-says-ingredients-are-in-place-for-massive-rally-before-a-blow-off-top-to-bull-market.html

I know a massive reset is coming and I keep hearing it's early/mid 2026 when it will hit hard. After reading this, I reached out to a very good financial advisor friend who helped me pull together several random 401Ks from previous employment gigs into a single account that he's told me what to buy, etc. I did the same shortly after Trump took office asking if should proactively do anything then, knowing Project 2025 basically plans to ruin the the US economic system at some point. He said no need to do anything then.

FF to today and he didn't immediately say to hold the course on this. He agreed the tech NASDAQ is overvalued but areas like US small-cap value and international still present attractive opportunities. I told him I wasn't averse to selling everything and sitting on the sidelines in advance of the crash and then buying back in if/when the time is right.

Deport the illegals, but not illegal activity.

Trump’s Immigration Push Diverts U.S. Agents From Drug, Money and Sex-Crime Cases

A federal team in El Paso that once pursued child traffickers has been disbanded. A Kansas task force focused on stemming the flow of fentanyl has been redirected. Highway checkpoints near the southwest border—some on roads long identified as major drug-trafficking routes—have gone unstaffed.

The shift reflects a broader realignment in federal law enforcement. Thousands of federal agents once tasked with investigating drug smuggling, sexual exploitation and organized crime have been redirected to immigration enforcement under President Trump’s second-term push to accelerate deportations, according to current and former officials.

The administration has set a goal of removing 3,000 migrants a day who are in the country illegally. To help meet that number, officials say, Homeland Security Investigations agents, Customs and Border Protection officers, Federal Bureau of Investigation officials and even the Postal Service have been pulled from their traditional duties to help track, detain and deport undocumented immigrants.

If you think that people in Trump's orbit don't have a vested financial interest in human and drug trafficking, you haven't been paying attention.  And I know you've been paying attention.

This is good old conman sleigh-of-hand shit: "Hey everyone!  Look at me beating and deporting these brown people over here.  And DEFINTELY DON'T LOOK at the human trafficking and drug trade that are actually increasing and from which my pals are profiting over here. Nope, don't look over here at all."

I disagree. We weren’t nearly as stupid back then as we are today.  We were plenty stupid, but OBL was a well-known entity before 9/11.

Yeah, we tried to kill him in Sudan when Clinton was in Office. He was known to be behind the Kobar Tower bombing. He was on our list for sure.
