I gotta admit, I don’t know how federal immunity would work in this case, but at this point - in Chicago at least - it’s apparent that ICE has engaged in a criminal conspiracy to commit serial assaults against citizens of Illinois. They do not have immunity for violating the constitution, but is there any way for Illinois to bring state charges against ICE conspirators in federal court? I admit to having no idea if there’s any angle here - probably not, but this is insanely unprecedented. I’ve never seen a federal entity just go full-on at war against civilians, in violation of all laws and norms.

Obviously, supremacy clause issues. But FFS, these are classic 18 USC 241 (conspiracy to violate civil rights) charges. A statute first written to deal with the fucking klan, and it works against the actual govt forces here. I know THIS DOJ won’t bring charges…but kick this motherfucker out and charge them ALL.

Pretty good discussion/explainer here. https://statedemocracy.law.wisc.edu/featured/2025/explainer-can-states-prosecute-federal-officials/

I've been filling up with premium for $3/gallon for months.

Yeah so does my STi. Filled up at $3.37 yesterday at the Exxon at Slaughter & Manchaca. I save more than $8.00 on that tank vs a place 1/2 mile closer to my house. Hope that helps. Crazy how much variance there is thse days.

I was told by serious posters that lower gas prices means lower food prices since they spend less money to distribute.

And then some fuckin idiot comes along to tack on tariffs to offset the fuel cost savings

I saw a 50 cent change at the William Cannon and Woodhue location and I chalked it up to them being the worst Circle K in America, since they are. But no, lots of places in the area were doing fuck fuck games.

gas buddy is your friend...almost filled up at $3 QT when I checked on a whim...two blocks over was $2.35 at Walmart. All the small gas stations were near $3 while Walmart/Heb/costco were significantly cheaper

Maybe gas station retail is crashing to the point gas needs to become a profit center

From TheHill

President Trump on Tuesday told Congress not to “waste your time and energy” on extending the subsidies, and two Republican senators have competing plans they both say deliver exactly what Trump wants.

A growing number of conservative groups and pollsters have been warning Republicans about the political dangers of letting the subsidies expire, and some lawmakers are taking those warnings to heart.

“If we don’t address the subsidies issue in December, I don’t think it’s going to get addressed next year,” Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) told reporters Thursday. “I see the political shop on the Democrat side just churning up all the very sympathetic stories that are going to result if we don’t come up with a reasonable plan.”

Tillis has called for a one-year extension of the subsidies, while policymakers mull larger reforms to America’s convoluted and expensive health insurance system.

But Trump has made it clear he won’t sign a temporary extension.

also it’s apparently impossible to embed reddit from my phone, so if anyone knows how to make that happen then please feel free to do so.

For some reason links from the Reddit app don't embed, but if you copy it into a browser, navigate to it, then post THAT link it will work as it's different.

Pain in the ass but it works.

Yes, because fear of the other side using the health care horror stories as political capital is the reason to prevent the health care horror stories, you soulless fucking ghouls.

It is ghoulish that they mention that horror stories are going to come out of this, but they are self-aware enough to realize how bad it's going to be, and that Trump is hell-bent on deliberately making it bad.  Trump is out in three years.  Most of these dudes want to be in Congress for another decade or three and this doesn't help them.

If you're a Republican in Congress and you know this is going to hurt the GOP control of Congress (maybe even affect your own seat or the GOP's control of your state), and Trump is like "fuck those people", how loyal are you going to be to Trump when it comes to things like the Epstein Files?

Edit: The crazy thing is a lot of Americans don't realize what is going on and won't until after it happens.  Those people are going to vote next November (or not vote if they were MAGA).

https://www.theverge.com/tech/825190/trump-mobile-service-customer-care-sim

Where’s the Trump Phone? We’re going to keep talking about it every week. While we wait, we tried to order a Trump Mobile SIM card so we can test the service on a different device. Here’s how that went.

sim.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&crop=0,5.52

Signing up for Trump Mobile’s wireless service felt a little like engaging in espionage.

Let’s say I don’t fully trust the Trump Organization to be great stewards of my credit card information, so I used a virtual number provided by my bank. Once I’d handed over the virtual money, I got this message: “Thank you for your order of a Physical SIM, we’ll ship next business day via First Class USPS mail, no separate tracking number will be sent.” Just what I was looking for with my wireless service: a sense of mystery! Fast-forward two weeks, and that SIM card is still on its way. My relationship with Trump Mobile’s wireless service? Off to a rocky start. I’d be annoyed about it — if customer service hadn’t been so gosh dang nice.

Quote

This whole affair might not have dragged on so long if I hadn’t been traveling. I signed up for the service on a Thursday, left for a short work trip the following Tuesday, and got back home Thursday. It was a little surprising that the SIM hadn’t turned up by then, but I gave it the weekend before I started trying to track it down. By Monday afternoon, I figured it was high time to call customer service. I called around 5pm PT — within the 8AM to 8PM CT hours listed on the website, but they were in fact closed for the day.

Spoiler

I got in touch with someone the following day, and she said my SIM card should have arrived by then. She escalated my case, and though she couldn’t tell me when I should expect to hear from someone about the issue, she added, “You have a great day, sweetheart” as I hung up. Well, that was nice, at least. But at this point, I’d shelled out $51.99 for a service I couldn’t use and was feeling salty about it.

The email from care@trumpmobile.com arrived later that afternoon, saying that my SIM was being shipped out via two-day FedEx. “Once you receive it and get your phone activated, please let me know so I can adjust your start date,” the message went on, initialed by “Care Team,kh.” The next day, an email came through from FedEx with details about my package arriving from Liberty Mobile — the MVNO behind Trump Mobile. Sure enough, it’s on track for delivery by the end of this week.

Without any prompting, “kh” followed up yesterday to let me know the package was arriving soon, and that they’d be refunding my payment. When I receive the SIM card, I will be able to log in, activate it, and then we’ll “start from scratch,” billing-wise. That’s awfully considerate — I didn’t even have to scream “TALK TO A REPRESENTATIVE” into my phone. The refund came through the same day, at which point I felt way less salty.

I should admit here that I signed up for the service under my work email. I don’t know if that has had any influence on my treatment, and in hindsight, I should have used something more anonymous. Again, I’m not super trusting of the company that sells steaks and condos to keep my personal email address under lock and key. I also emailed Trump Mobile’s media relations asking about the delayed SIM, but that was after “kh” had already arranged for the FedEx delivery.

Call me naive, but I kinda think that my email address giving me away as a member of the crooked, coastal media elite didn’t have anything to do with the treatment I got. That’s kinda what MVNOs are supposed to be good at, right? They don’t deal with the volume of customers of a Verizon or an AT&T, so it tracks that my interactions with customer care have felt less like yelling at a computer and more like I’m just emailing a guy. Or gal. Sorry to gender you, kh. Anyway, the real fun starts when my SIM shows up, which should be any minute now.

The ACA subsidies isn’t going away. A friend of mine just had his costs go from $1700 a month to $2800 a month. While he and his family can afford it - that is a massive hit on anyone’s budget. That $1100 a month kills spending money. It’s insane.

I haven't looked yet, I'm afraid to.  Yes, we can afford it, but that is a big hit.

This administration continues to "govern" as if they have no concerns at all about being thrown out of office. I guess they're just really counting on X percentage of the population REALLY liking how they treat people who aren't like them like shit.

Nikki Haley has been MIA, if she were smart she’d start loosely campaigning right about now as a suitable future alternative while stuff is going to shit.

MAGA would be taking fire from her at the same time they’re trying to keep their coalition together and the Dems are getting some traction right now. Their heads would spin and they couldn’t manage it.

Or she could hold her powder and let the gqp/maga fight with everyone and continue to weaken themselves and then jump in.

Nikki Haley is MIA because she is now a dirty dot Indian to the hardcore base. Her days are over. There is no Nikki Haley.

But her son is trying out the White Nationalist schtick. Good luck, bro.

At this point in the game, you would have thought she would have told her kid to cool it on MAGA and wait a few years.

Fucking this. All of these polls only serve to piss me off. If only every sane person around you could have predicted this outcome, oh, I don't know, almost exactly a year ago.
