What part of it? I didn't see that, but only skimmed it, and will read it later.

Part two, where there is speculation on another DJT run (Wiles says no).

If JD Vance runs for president, he’s going to be our nominee, and I’ll be one of the first people to support him,

Why is this troubling?

I get that Vance is a) a lot smarter than Trump and b) apparently in the thrall of YarvinThielco, which makes him very dangerous indeed.

I also think he's unelectable.

Yeah, Rubio is young and knows Vance will be tainted by Trump in 2028 and will lose.

Although if this little war with Venezuela is the cluster fuck we are expecting, Rubio is going to be fully tainted as well.

Because our best hope of non-fuckery in that election is a contested GOP primary.

Well, yeah, assuming the unpopularity of Trumpco holds, he'll be tainted among the rationals.

He also has I think about zero appeal to the base.  They. Have. To. Have. The. Base.

Buried in that article is Rubio conceding that he will stand aside for Vance and its very troubling that a succession plan is in place.

Also in that article she shits on JD and takes a nicer tone with Rubio.

Because the best defense against a unified attempt to rig the election is to have republicans busy competing against each other and maybe even a non-MAGA favored candidate emerging as the winner. An anointed JD Vance will have the entire apparatus working to install him.

Say what you want about Trump, but he knows how to rally his base and get them out. It's why he had that little TV show for 14 fucking years, among other things - he knows how to play to people and how to use the limelight and loved the spotlight like nobody else in the last 40 years.

Vance knows how to play to...Silicon Valley.  He was way too uncomfortable when the spotlight was on him.

Seriously, as litigious as these people are, you think Vanity Fair isn't going to have all their I's dotted and T's crossed.  The interview was exactly what Vanity Fair said it was.

And VF has audio tapes.

Reading through it, I'm beginning to wonder if this is a conspiracy of sorts, but one not involving Trump. Like somebody or several somebodies in that photo above decided they were going to get some negative shit out there about Trump from a legitimate inside source. Whether VF chose her or they did and worked out the details with VF that she would be the focus, doesn't matter. I could even see some of them agreeing to have her say some negative shit about them (since people will soon forget it) so that it didn't look like she was just dissing Trump.

I'm not saying anything like 25th Amendment or anything that big, just laying the groundwork for some of them to try and show there was distance between them and Trump or laying the groundwork for 2028 and saying "Hey, you saw what Wiles said about Trump, we were doing the best we could, but that was Trump."

Wiles didn't say this in a vacuum, it was over 11 interviews, with background interviews from some of the people in that photo (and they posed for multiple photos for this article) and it was all recorded. I don't want to toot the conspiracy theory horn, but she knew exactly what she was saying, regardless of context.

Sure, but none of that makes Vance "unelectable."

Yes, Trump has charisma that Vance lacks.  But a lot of people really didn't like a lot of the things Trump said -- about immigrants, about women, etc.  They bit their tongues and voted for him because he got the things they wanted done, and to a large degree because they are so conditioned by their families, pastors, etc, that they could never not vote for the R.  But part of them really didn't like doing it.

Those same people will vote for Vance much more easily.

I posted a sarcastic response because we're sitting here with a POTUS who's been accused of rape about 20 times, charged with felonies almost 100 times, convicted of some of them, been caught lying literally thousands of times, etc, but JD Vance is unelectable?

And if we're honest about it, the Fox News, Joe Rogan, etc machine can probably sell anybody to the horde at this point.  You think Republicans aren't going to show up because JD Vance is boring?  Nonsense.

Plus, Trump will make it a lot easier on the Republicans by dying well before 2028.  "They" will get to sell Vance as an incumbent, a continuation of the good times in a much more wholesome package.  Plus, they're going to cheat.  Unelectable??  Hell, it'll probably be a Dukakis or Mondale level ass whipping.

It's amusing that one of the "exhibits" of that display was paid for by a government agency, created by the most socialist president we ever had and no doubt created on the government dole by a drunken layabout artist.

At least he was white.

Well, sorta.  Alexander Dux was born in Austria-Hungary in 1898 and immigrated here with his family in 1910.

So, from what I can see of the VF article, there are some very subtle defenses of Trump and certain elements of Trumpco.  That seems to normalize the administration.

But I have no idea who is the audience for that?  It's way too subtle for the base and they ain't reading, period, much less VF.

The audience is themselves. They all shit on MSM publicly, but deep down they personally crave for validation from legacy publications like Vanity Fair.

It's really odd.  She knew she was being recorded, they posed for photos, they did follow-up interviews where they answered questions about things she brought up, etc.

If there were no recordings and it was all off-the-record, Trump would have all of his cabinet members out there denouncing it as lies and fake and he wouldn't shut up about it and would be talking about shutting VF down and how it's engaged in treason.  But the recordings exist.  So she claims they were "out of context" and he trots out his cabinet to say she's a wonderful and powerful member of the administration, the bestest of the bestest.

If Donald Fucking Trump is electable then anyone is electable. ‘It can’t happen here’ is never a true statement when it comes to Republican politics. There are a lot of self-proclaimed “Christian” voters in this country who would vote for Lucifer himself so long as he had an “R” next to his name on the ballot. Most especially if His opponent were either non-white or non-male. But the “D” alone would be enough to turn most of them off.

I’d like to believe that Vivek Ramaswamy could never in a million years be elected governor of Ohio but I won’t be the least bit surprised if he is. His opponent is a woman. Smart, experienced, qualified, and capable, but a woman. There will never again be a Republican candidate so vile and unlikable that I’ll doubt his chances to win an election.

I mean maybe.

We have often discussed that Trump is sui generis and I think that's very true.  That 30-40% base he has maintained is almost solely attributable to his peculiar traits that no one else can duplicate.

I know it's impossible to coalesce, but the anti-Trump administration strategy moving forward needs to be focusing on mid-terms and doing whatever possible to ensure a free and fair election in 2026.

Nothing else is gonna bring these people down. None of them are gonna get fired or be stopped from destroying everything, outside of losing Congress and legislative power.

I do believe that the majority of Americans are tired of this shit and want to vote Republicans out of power. But Trump and GOP will do everything possible to fuck things up in 2026, whether it's delaying mid-terms, voter intimidation, or literally rigging the results. Get out in front of all that shit ASAP.

Again, the problem here is you're trying to use reason and logic. Don't try to make sense of it. Nothing matters. They do what they want, anyone personally hired or appointed by Trump is untouchable. He doesn't care about any of this. They all pretty much killed this story in a matter of hours and everyone will move on.

This does not describe his base.  This describes something else entirely, maybe the persuadable middle or something.

I have been told repeatedly that everyone voted for Trump because of his racism and otherism.  And I certainly don't disagree with that as pertains to the base.

I concede that Vance has the potential to appeal to a more rational class of voters.  But I don't think there are enough rational Trump supporters to get him elected.

I really hope you're right.

But I've lost all faith in this electorate.  Once they started winning Latinos and Gen Z, I lost hope.  A lot of those folks need to be flipped or we're in for a bleak generation.

I agree with @TwiceHorn, or we're both whistling past the same graveyard, that the group that puts him over the top is the mouth-breather class that like him for the overt racism and for just saying whatever he fucking wants all in the name of "liberal tears" and "owning the libs" -- never mind the amount of self-owning that is also happening.

Miriam Adelson pledges $250 million for a third Trump term at White House Hanukkah party (I didn't see the pledge amount in the mention of this cuntghoul above)

Adelson spoke at the event, mentioning that she had spoken with Trump lawyer and known Israel defender Alan Dershowitz about the legality of a third Trump term.

2026 midterms need to be a lot like 2025 elections and then things will at least stop being catastrophically bad, but I think it's fucked. Too many people fighting progress, until they want to crucify the billionaires and that's the campaign promise top to bottom from a party/platform it's going to just be more of the same.
